Hollywood Hulk Hogan Dudley Boyz Kurt Angle Snuka 2001ish Hardy Boyz
This keeps happening over and over again. Even if we give them a pass on the Dudleyz there’s still other examples. Mattel have got to start doing iconic looks first and not Shield Angle or American Made Hogan or WM35 Angle or Snuka in boots (although I don’t want a Snuka now it’s still an example)

They made new molds for 1. attires we don’t want 2. Molds that won’t be re used.

I always find it weird when people bring up American Made Hogan in threads like this, as if Hollywood or Hulk Still Rules would have been an RSC exclusive instead. That look didn’t “take” a spot from an iconic Hogan, because an iconic Hogan look wasn’t going to be a niche site exclusive. It was basically a bonus look.

The problem is the second look won’t sell as good if the iconic is released first. Sad to say but it’s a good business model for Mattel. Everyone clamors for a figure of whoever then they release one ina lesser attire and people buy it because they just want that figure. They can’t control certain things like this. I’m sure they didn’t see these cuts coming and due to the circumstances around them it is what it is.

Out of that small list we still have the Hardyz and Kurt from both AE and RA. As for Hogan that's not on mattel, at the time they were pumping Hogan figures out, then Hollywood was next. So blame Hogan for that fiasco. The only time they dropped the ball was with the elite Dudley Boyz. So it's not all that bad.

I don't hold H3 or Snuka against them. In hindsight, I would've preferred Mania X-7 Hardys over the New Brood and them investing in a proper singlet mold for all the Angles we did get.
Lower on the totem pole: I'm just salty Bill made his USA fetish gear for Ryder's last Elite instead of WM32.

The fact that they gave us Shield Kurt Angle over ECW Kurt Angle says it all.
They don't give a damn what we want.
Can't believe that Shield Angle was a thing... A RSC Exclusive too, for a RSC Exclusive price.

That resulted in the crappiest most obscure slaughter and snuka you could imagine. That was why we almost didn’t get LOD in red pads. In some cases in could be a licensor thing. In the case of the Dudley’s, I can imagine wwe requesting that a wwe look be made before the ecw look. Other times, it comes down to personal preferences and you can’t please everyone. I think mattel made iconic hardy Boyz looks. I wouldn’t complain about them at all.

I think Mattel can be killed for a lot of attire choices (relating to Hogan and others) but I just don’t think the American Made As an exclusive was one of them. Now if it had been a mainline figure, that would be a different story.

I remember getting so pissed when Mattel only released one elite RVD. Like seriously, out of all the cool attires he’s had, only one elite? We were all clamoring for the white tiger stripe, ONS, purple attire from when he fought Jeff etc. There were just A LOT of options. My other issue is that sometimes Mattel only has one shot to do these and then the part selections are questionable. Why does a one off Kurt get a new unique mold, that’s never going to be used again as opposed to giving RVD a new set of thicker legs with black tape under? Instead he gets a nice pair of thin legs with cheap painted on designs.

I don't understand how we can be 10 years into the Mattel line AND STILL NOT HAVE AN ELITE WRESTLEMANIA 13 BRET HART?!?!

I know RVD is currently with Impact, but it would be cool if he could strike a merch deal with WWE again.

They could probably still do them (at least D-Von). I really want the ECW tye-dye version, a WrestleMania X-Seven, ECW One Night Stand 2005, 2004 attre, and a Reverend D-Von and 2002 Bubba Ray with pants, jersey, and a backward baseball cap

They didn't really 'drop the ball' on most of those attire choices. How could they have expected those guys to leave/get fired/be exposed as murderers. I'm far from a Mattel apologist, but the Dudleys figs were wearing what they wore on Raw for their recent run. E34 Hogan was a current (then) figure, while the DM was released around the same time in a side line. The RSC exclusive was a perfect choice for an exclusive. Most of the basics were some form of yellow and red, and they were clearly pumping out more before everything went down. I'm not personally sure what the issue with the Hardys is as they got numerous figures, and from all eras from what I can tell (aside from maybe 2010 Matt with the tights and kickpads, but he was released twice in the elite line in 2011-12) Snuka and Angle are probably the two that they deserve the most blame on attire choices, as the only classic Elite Angles were DM (boring attire), Team Angle (kind of, but slightly less boring attire, but would be better with Haas and Benjamin in their matching attires), and street clothes milk truck. His current attires, in my opinion, were all pretty bad. This brings me to my next point...
Now where they may be able to recieve a little more heat is with the number of figures released. The one that gets me the worst is RVD who got only one terrible elite. Yes it is what he wore on tv recently, but it was a bad attire on a lousy looking figure. Some of the (few) basics looked better. RVD would've made a great exclusive, and he had so many iconic looks. Or even just more colorful ones. RVD is a guy who maybe should've just been a flashback, as he looks pretty much the same throughout his whole career. Nobody would've complained 'hey, where's that awful grey attire from his Raw redebut. KOTR 2002?! They should've gone current! What are they doing? Fire Bill!!'
The Dudleys should've gotten more than one release as well. They should've taken up two flashback spots or been a Hardy-style RSC exclusive, or FYE like the one in retro (2010) packaging.

I don't hold Snuka against them. huh... that was by far a terrible choice. given it was really early in the line, but we know what happened once those hit shelves. (throw in Slaughter also and others) , if you dont want to hold it against them , i sure as hell will. lol.
