Planet Charisma ECW - Obviously Swagger needed to win here considering he is getting a title shot at the PPV. - Ryder is a pimp. Also, he is AWESOME. - Dragon picking up wins again is good to see. But, I have a feeling its to late to keep him on ECW. - Interested as to where the Kendrick/London story is going. - Simple win for Kofi this week. - Rey Mysterio involved in a filler? Wow. I’d think he would be a top priority on ECW. - Alright main event, but I don’t think Ezekiel has the “overness” to be involved in the match. - The aftermath was okay as well.

(September 23rd, 2008) ECW on Sci-Fi started with ECW Champion, “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin coming to the ring. Shelton said that last week, he was brutally attacked by three men. He said someone of his caliber should not have to suffer through that. Shelton said that he has always been underappreciated here on ECW despite being the greatest ECW Champion in history. Eventually, D.H. Smith randomly came out. Shelton gave him the “who are you?” card, and Smith talked about how he is the son of The British Bulldog. And he has always been overlooked, but unlike Shelton, that gives him motivation to get better. After back and forth talking, Eric Bischoff appeared on the titantron, saying that these two should settle this in a match, right now! Non-Title Match: D.H. Smith vs. “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin (ECW Champion)This match was not as long as it should have been, but it was still pretty competitive. Smith was somewhat showcased here. He hit a modified Powerslam that got a near fall. But in the end, Shelton was able to be the victor after he nailed Smith with the Paydirt. Winner: Shelton BenjaminThe new backstage interviewer, Maria, interviewed Michelle McCool and the “All-American American” Jack Swagger. Michelle did most of the talking, but Swagger finally took the microphone away from her. Swagger said that it doesn’t matter who Shelton picks for Swagger to face in the Pick Your Poison match, because he is better than anyone that Shelton can find. Non-Title Match: Kofi Kingston (Television Champion) vs. Steven RichardsThis was sort of just a lame way to make sure Kofi was on the show. The announcers said that he would defend his title next week against Colin Delaney. The offense Richards got in was minimal as he lost the match after Kofi connected with the Trouble In Paradise. Winner: Kofi KingstonAfter the match, a video played of Colin Delaney and Simon Dean being at the gym. It showed Delaney doing various workout moves including weight lifting, push-ups, and sit-ups. And it showed him drinking more protein shakes. Dean said that Kofi better be ready for Colin Delaney next week. Kofi sort of disregarded the video, feeling confident in his abilities. Ezekiel Jackson w/The Brian Kendrick vs. Jimmy RaveKendrick came out with a clipboard as Zeke took on Rave, who used to be with TNA and ROH. This was obviously a quick squash, as Zeke planted him with the Ura-nage. But instead of pinning him there, Zeke decided to punish him by nailing him with the Jackhammer. This time, Zeke allowed the referee to count to three. Winner: Ezekiel JacksonAfter the commercial break, Kendrick and Zeke were still in the ring, as a table was set up. Eric Bischoff’s assistant Maryse was also there to make sure everything went smooth. Kendrick called out Paul London, as London and Layla came out. Kendrick said that London doesn’t deserve another match with him, but he’ll give him one. But, that’s only if London agrees to the stipulations that Kendrick set; and London obviously wanted to know what they were. Kendrick said that London leaving ECW wasn’t a stipulation because he wanted to “ruin London’s life”. Kendrick said that London’s three passions are Layla, his in-ring work, and having enough money to put food on the table. So, London said that he wants all three of those things gone if London loses. So if London loses, Kendrick said that Layla has to leave ECW, London is banned from using the Shooting Star Press forever, and London’s salary is decreased by 25%! Kendrick said London can have any match he wants, figuring London won’t accept. But London said that he accepts! And, it will be a Steel Cage Match! London says that Zeke has been helping Kendrick win matches, but that won’t be the case anymore. Because come No Mercy, London will finish Kendrick, once and for all! London signed the contract, and Kendrick signed as well, telling London that London will put his life on the line, and lose. Charlie Haas told “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin that no matter what, don’t come out for the next match. Charlie Haas vs. Ultimo DragonBoth men could use a win in this match. It was a pretty even match, as Haas took control late. However, late in the match, Jack Swagger came out. This distracted Haas, as he let go of Ultimo. This distraction allowed Ultimo to roll Haas up. But instead of pinning him, he rolled into the Dragon Sleeper. And because of the distraction, Haas was forced to tap out. Winner: Ultimo DragonBackstage, Ultimo Dragon ran into Rey Mysterio. Mysterio looked excited that Ultimo was back on track. He kept talking, but Ultimo just stood there. Eventually, Ultimo walked away, which had Mysterio looking confused. Zack Ryder came out and stood at the top of the ramp with his Zack Pack, which now consisted of Ashley, Joy Giovanni, and Rebecca DiPietro. He said that when he talked to Tommy Dreamer last week, he could see the jealousy in Dreamer’s eyes. Ryder told the crowd to look at the three sexy, stunning, model-like women that were next to him. He explained that he could go anywhere or do anything with these women that he wanted. Ryder took everyone’s attention to the titantron. Ryder showed various pictures of women that were the caliber of women that Dreamer could get. The first was a girl with missing teeth. After that, Ryder showed a woman who was incredibly overweight. Next was a picture of The Sandman’s face (ouch) photo shopped on a female body. And lastly, there was a photo shopped picture of Beulah being in a hospital bed. Ryder ended the segment by saying, “Woo woo woo, you know it”. Jack Swagger came out for the main event, as Shelton Benjamin came out. Shelton said that Swagger’s opponent for Pick Your Poison was obvious. Shelton said that “payback is a you-know-what”, as Evan Bourne came out! Pick Your Poison: Evan Bourne vs. “The All-American American” Jack Swagger w/Michelle McCoolBourne actually is the only man so far to have beaten Swagger on ECW, although he did it via distraction. And after the match, Swagger had given him five Gutwrench Powerbombs. This made for a pretty good main event as both men gave it their all. Bourne went for the Re-Bourne (Styles Clash), but Swagger flipped him over. Swagger took control after hitting three straight belly-to-belly suplexes. He went for the Gutwrench, but Bourne reversed it late into a huricanrana. Bourne went up for a moonsault, but Swagger got out of the way, and Bourne hit the mat hard. Swagger was able to pretty much stalk Bourne as he planted him with the Gutwrench Powerbomb to get the win. Winner: Jack SwaggerThe #1 Contender for the ECW Championship stood tall to close the show.

ECW Championship: “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin (ECW Champion) vs. “The All-American American” Jack SwaggerLondon’s Life On The Line Cage Match: “Party Boy” Paul London vs. The Brian KendrickWrestling Observer Newsletter NotesThe main reason as to why the London/Kendrick feud was made into a Cage Match is because the WWE did not think that they are high enough up on the card to warrant a regular pay-per-view match. Creative is trying to keep Shelton Benjamin as a heel, although he is more of a face in the title feud than Swagger is.

Shelton/Smith is a pretty good opener. Obviously Shelton was going over Smith. Kofi/Richards is pretty meh. Not surprised that Kofi won. The Delaney/Dean video made me laugh. I love that pairing. The stipulations for No Mercy between Kendrick/London are damn interesting. I can't see London losing since Kendrick won the previous two encounters. Haas/Ultimo is actually a solid match. Ultimo/Mysterio? Awesome. Zack Pack is fantastic. That segment really captured Ryder's character. Evan Bourne as Shelton's pick makes sense since Bourne is the only one to beat Swagger. Not surprised Swagger won this time around. Good stuff, man.

Smith vs Shelton is cool, obviously the better decision getting the win for the ECW Champ. Kofi winning in basically a squash over Stevie is expected, as Stevie isn't much in WWE. Saw Jackson's name then Rave's... guess who won? Interesting segment between Kendrick-London there. Dragon's losing streak brought to a win streak I like. Zack Ryder is a pimp! Woo woo woo! You know it! Nice picture thing with him. And lastly, Bourne is an interesting choice, and glad Swagger beat him to keep it even.

- Smith/Benjamin is a good opening contest. I hope Smith is given a bigger role in this. - Squash for Kofi is alright, I guess. Interested to see how Colin/Kofi goes. - Simple squash for EJ, but I do like the usage of Jimmy Rave. - Fantastic segment with London/Kendrick. This feud has me really interested in this diary at the moment. Very, very personal and I love that. - Dragon is back winning matches I see. Hopefully Haas is demoted, though. - Good segment with Ryder mocking Tommy Dreamer. - Obvious that Swagger had to beat Bourne so that he didn’t lose any momentum going into the PPV.

Righty sorry for delay on reply haven't had time until now really Shelton defeating DH Smith but this is the opener?!? okay so it has a promo before it but still hope to see more of the ECW Champ later in the show. Swagger little interview thang is fine... Kingston winning is fine but Richards barely doing anything? I dig Ricahrds man. Cant see Delaney taking the belt next week. Jackson over Rave makes Jackson look like the super-duper strength that he wants to be. Fine by me. Liked the London/Kendrick segment quite sure London will win with those stipulations however. Dragon > Haas in weird fashion... hmm. Ultimo heelish? Reyowned. nice heel Ryder segment, he can be champ in the future fine by me Quite sure there are people more likely to inflict the pain on Swagger than Bourne so him as the choice alhthough in a way logical isn't great to me. Swagger winning is good and the clean victory puts him over on the road to No Mercy. overall a okay show really... on a side note you should totally start doing Raw and SD! as well and give recaps of whats happened to them during this ECW Diary. How much win would that be?

ECW on Sci-Fi: Tuesday 23rd September 2008...Nice promo to start off the show with the ECW Champion, Shelton Benjamin once again adressing the audience, with two weeks away from No Mercy. DH Smith coming out makes him a lot more credible, and a match between the two as announced by Eric Bischoff settles this up. It just killed off the credibility when the two didn't have a long amount of time to compete, and that Benjamin won. I feel you could have gotten away with disqualification or count out, for DH Smith. It could have granted him a big shove towards getting truly involved with the WWE Television Championship division. Kofi Kingston beating Steven Richards is fine, but really not appealing at all. Was worthless, and to be honest, Colin Delaney should have fought Kofi here, since he isn't doing anything proper. Feel you should have paced this match out from the opener, as the first two bouts featured the champions on this brand. Jimmy Rave? Maybe a little too big to be considered enhancement talent on the independent circuit. Would have preferred an FCW superstar competing there, instead. Ezekiel Jackson getting a boost is okay, but The Brian Kendrick should be the focus, not Zeke. Jackson needed a lot more work to be on television. He was still extremely green and used solely as a manager for Kendrick around this time while Zeke worked in the ring on FCW TV. Ya know, thinking about it, an FCW invasion of ECW would be amazing, and a good twist for you to do. Just something out there you could try at one point. Not sure about The Brian Kendrick and Paul London getting enough heat in their feud to get a match on No Mercy with the steel-cage stipulation, maybe for ECW on Sci-Fi, but steel-cage matches are a rarity on pay-per-view in WWE. So, I'm not really pleased about this. Ultimo Dragon beating Charlie Haas is okay for Ultimo but...again, Haas going down the card. It's not good for Haas. Especially the submission finish since Haas is a technician. Zack Ryder's segment with Tommy Dreamer was pretty entertaining though. Wow, Evan Bourne debuting at last is a great decision, you should have given him the win against Jack Swagger, and it wouldn't bother Swagger's momentum either, if Shelton had cost Swagger the match. Would also have made for better storylines, and intensifying Benjamin and Swagger's awkward feud right there. Good show but, there were a few things in there I didn't agree with.

(September 30th, 2008) ”The All-American American” Jack Swagger w/Michelle McCool vs. Val VenisThe #1 Contender opened up the show, picking apart Venis. Venis got in minimal offense as this was just a short showcase for Swagger. And Swagger ended up finishing off Venis easily with the Gutwrench Powerbomb. Winner: Jack SwaggerMaria interviewed ECW Champion, “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin. He said that Swagger had another impressive victory tonight, but this is where the victories stop. Shelton says that by the time No Mercy rolls around, Shelton will have been champion for half of a year. And there is no way that he will let a punk like Swagger win the belt. Backstage, Rey Mysterio walked up to Ultimo Dragon once again. Mysterio said he doesn’t get what’s up, considering that he feels like he is helping Ultimo get on the right path again. Once again, Ultimo didn’t answer Mysterio. Mysterio said that talking or not, the two of them are teaming up tonight to take on The World’s Greatest Tag Team! Ezekiel Jackson w/The Brian Kendrick vs. NunzioNunzio tried his hardest, but it obviously wasn’t good enough. Zeke hit Nunzio with the Ura-nage and picked up the win. Winner: Ezekiel JacksonAfter the match, Kendrick planted Nunzio with The Kendrick, and then said that it was just a taste of what he will do to Paul London at No Mercy. Eric Bischoff and Maryse were talking backstage. The segment didn’t accomplish much as they were just hyping up the two No Mercy matches. Evan Bourne & “Party Boy” Paul London vs. Santino Marella & Steven RichardsThis was a pretty random tag team match. The heels got in some offense as Bourne’s ribs are still taped up due to Swagger’s attack from several weeks ago. Near the end, all four men battled it out. Santino was on the outside, and Bourne hit Richards with the Re-Bourne (Styles Clash). Bourne took care of Santino as London hit the Shooting Star Press onto Richards to get the win for his team. Winners: Evan Bourne & Paul LondonLondon grabbed a microphone after the match and talked about his cage match with Kendrick at No Mercy. London said that if he loses, his salary plummets, he can’t use that Shooting Star Press move, and most importantly, Layla has to leave ECW. But London says that he will not fail as Ezekiel Jackson can’t get into the ring to cost him the match again. He said that Kendrick has been ruining his life, and that his life is on the line at No Mercy. But, for his family, fans, and Layla, London said that he will prevail. Simon Dean was making Colin Delaney do tons of push-ups backstage. Dean says that it’s Delaney’s time tonight. Television Championship: Kofi Kingston (Television Champion) vs. Colin Delaney w/Simon DeanThis was a pretty good contest, with Delaney getting in more offense than one would think. Delaney looked better than ever, but Kofi was obviously no easy opponent. Near the end, Delaney was about to go for a DDT, but it looked as if he started to cramp up due to all the working out! As he was grabbing his ribs, he turned around, and Kofi nailed him with the Trouble In Paradise. Kofi went for the cover, and picked up the win to retain his title. Winner: Kofi KingstonZack Ryder was hanging out with the Zack Pack of Ashley, Joy Giovanni, and Rebecca DiPietro when Tommy Dreamer approached him. Dreamer said that he saw Ryder’s video montage last week, and he didn’t appreciate it. He said that Ryder has a big mouth, but if he was as good in the ring as his mouth was big, he would be doing something special here on ECW instead of acting like he was in high school. Ryder didn’t take kindly to this, as he tried to act like a big man by challenging Dreamer to a match next week. Without hesitation, Dreamer accepted the challenge. Backstage, Charlie Haas was talking to Shelton Benjamin. Haas said that he hopes Shelton is there for him tonight like a good friend and teammate would be. Shelton said not to worry, as he will bring his A game. But Haas told Shelton that if Swagger makes his way down to ringside, to promise him that he will still have his back. Shelton kept telling him not to worry, and that they will be fine. Charlie Haas & “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin (ECW Champion) vs. Rey Mysterio & Ultimo DragonThis was interesting as things were uneasy between both teams, especially the faces. Whenever Mysterio and Ultimo tagged, they seemed to lock eyes. It was a great match though, as all four men are good workers. Near the end, Haas and Ultimo were in the ring, and as expected, Jack Swagger made his way down to ringside. Shelton tried not going near him, but after Swagger spat in his direction, Shelton got off the ring apron and started brawling with Swagger. This obviously distracted Haas as he was left in a 2-on-1 situation. Ultimo took advantage and planted Haas with a downward spiral. Mysterio then tagged himself in and hit the West Coast Pop on Haas to win the match. Winners: Rey Mysterio & Ultimo DragonMysterio was happy that his team won, but Ultimo was not, as Ultimo seemed to have thought that he should have gotten the pin. The cameras shifted backstage, where Shelton and Swagger kept brawling. Officials tried breaking them up, but they kept going at it. Eventually, more officials, as well as Eric Bischoff and Maryse showed up. The two men finally got separated as the show came to a close.

Good to see Swagger pick up the victory as he's #1 Contender. Good Benjamin interview, builds him as a strong ECW Champion. Rey/Ultimo teaming up should be a good, I see a feud in the works between them. Zeke squashing Nunzio is meh, but its better than a local. The aftermath was more use than the match. London and Bourne could be a good tag team once your done with the Kendrick/London angle. The promo was quite emotional there from London, really hypes the Cage Match at No Mercy. I expect it will be better than Swagger/Benjamin. Simon Dean and Colin Delaney is a fun pairing, good to see Delaney isn't a complete joke like he was in the real ECW. The Dreamer/Ryder segment was good, hope that you develop that feud a bit. The tag team match was well booked, like how despite what he said Benjamin couldn't help himself. Mysterio and Ultimo really is at its breaking point. Swagger and Shelton will be a hot blooded encounter at No Mercy, look forward to that a lot. Well booked show hope it continues like this.

Not surprised that Jack Swagger won the opener over Val Venis. Same goes for Ezekiel Jackson beating Nunzio. The Eric Bischoff/Maryse segment was pointless. You could have just had the announcers hype of No Mercy. Bourne/London are a good team. Kingston/Delaney sounded alright. Can't see Tommy Dreamer beating Zack Ryder next week. Solid main event. Furthers the tension between Rey and Ultimo. Overall, I thought the show was pretty weak aside from the main event. Considering this was the final stop before No Mercy you could have built the Swagger/Benjamin match up a little better instead of the typical Swagger squash.

Sadly, I have fallen behind on this diary; however, I will try my best to catch up.
Review of: September 30th, 2008
I absolutely love Jack Swagger getting a shot at the ECW Championship and I hope you book it correctly. His victory over Val Venis does not say much, but it keeps his momentum rolling. I like Shelton Benjamin calling Swagger’s victory impressive and then stating that he cannot defeat him. I wonder what is going on with Rey and Dragon, but I am sure it is something solid. Jackson defeating Nunzio is no surprise, but it serves it purpose. I like Jackson and Brian Kendrick; I hope you can do something with both of them. Eric Bischoff as General Manager is great, I like that a lot. As you noted, very random tag team match. Obviously, Evan Bourne and Paul London was the stronger team and them winning was logical. I love how motivated London is for his match against Kendrick. London has a lot of the line and I hope he wins. Obviously, Colin Delany was not going to score a victory; however, it helps keep Kofi Kingston in the light and looking good. I really hope Tommy Dreamer doesn’t get the best of Zack Ryder. I can accept Rey Mysterio and Ultimo Dragon winning because Shelton Benjamin had abandoned Haas to fight Swagger. I love Swagger and Shelton really battling it out to close the show.

- Swagger over Venis is okay, but I don’t know if that is a great way to start the show. - Decent promo by Benjamin. I do see him losing the belt to Swagger. - Good squash for EJ. I wonder when he will get some competitive matches. - Bourne/London would be a entertaining tag team. Would’ve liked London to pick up the win in the match, though. - Good promo by London. For some reason I think London will lose now. Layla turning heel possibly? - Dreamer/Ryder should be okay. Hopefully Ryder still goes over. - Good main event, and I really would like Dragon to turn heel and destroy Mysterio one of these days. The brawl between Swagger and Benjamin was done nicely as well.

-Swagger over Venis was a good choice to open -Good promo from Shelton, really have no clue who's going to win at No Mercy -Ezekiel squash works, makes him look dominant -Bourne & London are a great high flying team, glad they won -Kofi retaining the belt was expected, never thought Delany had a chance -Ryder/Dreamer will be good next week, expect Ryder to go over -WGTT losing is something I never like, but with Shelton brawling with Swagger I understand. I smell an Ultimo heel turn also
Very good show, can't wait for No Mercy and the eventual Dragon/Mysterio feud.

(October 5th, 2008) ECW Championship: “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin (ECW Champion) vs. “The All-American American” Jack Swagger w/Michelle McCoolShelton has held the title for six months, while Swagger has only had one loss here on ECW. This match was second on the card out of eight matches, which wasn’t the greatest positioning. It was a good match, although the crowd was confused who to root for, although most cheered Shelton over Swagger. They mat wrestled for a while, and then the pace picked up late in the match. Swagger hit his three consecutive belly-to-belly suplexes for a near fall. Shelton took control and hit a T-Bone Suplex, but Swagger got out. Swagger gained control and went for the Gutwrench Powerbomb, but Shelton slid out. He went for the Paydirt, but Swagger threw him down, and Shelton landed on his head. Swagger then picked Shelton up, and planted him with the Gutwrench Powerbomb. He was slow to the cover but got the count, and Shelton kicked out! Swagger couldn’t believe it as he picked Shelton up and planted him with another Gutwrench Powerbomb. He went for the cover again, and got the three count to win the match and the title! Winner: Jack Swagger (New ECW Champion)Swagger and McCool were ecstatic as Swagger did his best job of fighting real tears. McCool then put the title around Swagger’s waist as he held his hands up high. In a backstage interview later in the night, “Party Boy” Paul London was with Layla. London was saying that Kendrick has made his life a living hell. Because of Kendrick, London lost the Television Championship, and Layla’s house was broken into. And since then, London has been screwed time after time. But tonight, this comes to an end. He reiterated that if he lost tonight, the Shooting Star Press would be banned, from his move arsenal, his salary would decrease by 25%, and Layla would have to leave ECW. He said that tonight is a must-win situation, and he will step up to the plate. ”Life On The Line” Steel Cage Match: “Party Boy” Paul London w/Layla vs. The Brian Kendrick w/Ezekiel JacksonThe ways to win the match were via pin, submission, or escaping the cage. As mentioned, if London loses, then he can’t use the Shooting Star Press anymore, his salary decreases by 25%, and Layla would have to leave ECW. This was the fourth match on the card out of eight due to the intense gimmick. The match itself was excellent. It started out as a brawl of sorts, but they started to do more wrestling moves, and various counters. London ended up bleeding after Kendrick was grinding London’s face into the steel. Kendrick actually hit The Kendrick, but he was too beaten up to make a cover. Zeke kept trying to get the referee to open the cage door. Kendrick almost got out that way, but London stopped him. London got on offense, and hit a move that looked similar to the RKO. He went to the top rope for the Shooting Star Press, but he moved. Kendrick then tried escaping through the door again, as Zeke grabbed a chair. London pulled Kendrick back, and at the last second, for some reason, Zeke threw a chair into the ring. London went to grab the chair, but Kendrick gave him a low blow, and both men were down. Both men got up, and both grabbed the chair. Kendrick got it, swung, and missed. London then got the chair and hit Kendrick over the head with it! London dropped the chair, and started climbing the cage as Layla cheered him on. He was climbing near the corner, and was about to climb over, but started to re-think. London then got up to the top of the cage as the crowd was going crazy, as were the announcers. Some people were chanting “please don’t die”. So instead of just climbing over the cage and winning the match, London then went for a Shooting Star Press OFF THE TOP OF THE CAGE, but Kendrick moved out of the way, and London hit the mat! Kendrick was slowly getting up, and London was barely moving. Kendrick still seemed banged up from that chair shot, as he started climbing the cage. As he was climbing over, London was slowly getting up. It got to the point where Kendrick was halfway down the other side, and London was standing up. So, the two were at even level, locking eyes, but the cage was in between them. London was repeatedly shouting “NO!”, “NO!”, “NO!” as Kendrick had an evil smirk. Kendrick then said “this is your life” as he jumped to the floor, winning the match. Winner: The Brian KendrickKendrick was obviously satisfied with his victory, as Zeke ended up carrying him to the back. London was distraught in the ring, as was Layla on the outside.

Wrestling Observer Newsletter Notes
Some are still lobbying to take away the Television Championship. A decision about it should be made within the coming weeks.
Jack Swagger is the fourth man to win the ECW Championship since Bobby Lashley lost it the night after Wrestlemania 23 in 2007. Marcus Cor Von, CM Punk, and Shelton Benjamin were the others. Cor Von and Punk have enjoyed pushes on Raw since then. It will be interesting to see where Shelton goes from here as he tends to always float around the card. Officials have faith in Swagger as a future main eventer on a bigger brand.
It is interesting to note that at last year’s No Mercy, Punk lost the triple threat match, which seemed to cause ECW’s “death”.
Brian Kendrick and Paul London were both banged up, but neither will miss any time.
