(September 9th, 2008) ECW on Sci-Fi started off with Eric Bischoff and Maryse talking backstage. Bischoff said he has a feeling that tonight will be a big night. He said that despite Kendrick wanting to have a “plan” for a future match against Paul London, he is making them square off right here tonight! And, new #1 contender’s will be made for both the Television Championship, as well as the ECW Championship. ECW Champion,” The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin comes out to start the show. He reiterates the fact that he has held the ECW Championship since Backlash, with recently defeating Charlie Haas at Unforgiven. He asked Haas to come out, and Haas did. Shelton told Haas that they had a great match, and he knows Haas is upset that he came up short. But he wants that in the past, and he wants The World’s Greatest Tag Team back. Haas said that that’s the plan, and the two shook hands. But, Haas said that he would like another shot at Shelton. Shelton was about to say yes, but Eric Bischoff’s music hit. Bischoff told Haas sorry, but a new #1 Contender, as well as Haas’s opponent for tonight has been named. The music of “The All-American American” Jack Swagger came out, as Swagger had a smirk on his face. Val Venis went to the ring for the next match, and then Zack Ryder came out. Ryder came out with Ashley and Joy Giovanni. He talked on his way to the ring, and said that Venis is an idiot for challenging him to a third match just because Joy left him for a better man. Ryder ended by saying “Woo woo woo, you know it”. Val Venis vs. Zack Ryder w/Ashley & Joy GiovanniVenis looked emotionally upset as the match started. He tried to go on fire, but Ryder had control. For the third straight time, Ryder finished him off with the Zack Attack to pick up the win. Winner: Zack RyderThe two ladies each gave Ryder a kiss on the cheek as the cameras shifted backstage. Rey Mysterio talked to Ultimo Dragon backstage again. Mysterio said that tonight, Ultimo needs a bounce-back win more than ever. Steven Richards vs. Ultimo DragonThis was an okay match that had the crowd moderately interested. Richards kept yelling Ultimo that his mask should be censored. Richards went for the Stevie Kick, but Ultimo ducked, and locked in the Dragon Sleeper. Richards tapped out as Ultimo finally got back in the win column. Winner: Ultimo DragonIn a backstage interview, Kofi Kingston said that he is ready to defend his Television Championship against any competitor. He wished the three men in the upcoming match good luck. #1 Contender’s Match: Colin Delaney w/Simon Dean vs. D.H. Smith vs. Santino Marella w/MariaThe winner gets a shot at Kofi Kingston’s Television Championship at a later date. Santino just got his job back last week, and was put in a great situation here. This was a decent match, as the crowd was behind Smith by default. Smith gave Delaney a Running Powerslam, but Santino broke up the count. Near the end, Santino got Smith out of the ring, and Smith landed awkwardly on his arm, which caused Maria to check on him. This distracted Santino, as Delaney rolled him up to get the win. Winner: Colin Delaney (New #1 Contender For Television Championship)Backstage, Santino Marella was furious at Maria. He yelled at her, saying that she should be in the kitchen, and not out there for his matches. Santino then said that they should make out, because that’s all she’s good for. Maria then slapped him, and she said that they are through! “Party Boy” Paul London and Layla were shown talking backstage. London says that this upcoming match is very important to him. He says that he needs payback for all that Kendrick has done to him. ”Party Boy” Paul London w/Layla vs. The Brian Kendrick w/Ezekiel JacksonThe crowd was pretty interested in this, as it was a good match. Both men hit some impressive moves, and London took control later in the match. Kendrick went for his finisher called The Kendrick, but London shoved him off. After that, London hit a spinning DDT on Kendrick. He then went up to the top rope for the Shooting Star Press. However, Ezekiel Jackson went over to Layla, grabbed her, and lifted her up above his head! This grabbed London’s attention, as London yelled for Zeke to let go. Kendrick then told London to lay down for him, and Zeke would let Layla go. London was furious, as he laid down. Kendrick went for the cover, and got the easy three count. Winner: The Brian KendrickAfter the match, Zeke put Layla down, and then shoved her to the mat. London went and quickly checked on Layla, as he was absolutely furious at Kendrick and Zeke. Backstage with Rebecca DiPietro, Michelle McCool said Jack Swagger was busy doing 100 push-ups, and could not conduct an interview. But on behalf of Swagger, McCool said that he is ready to challenge for the ECW Championship at No Mercy. And just like at No Mercy, Swagger will come out on top tonight. Charlie Haas vs. “The All-American American” Jack Swagger w/Michelle McCoolThe announcers said that Haas apparently told Shelton that he wanted to come out here on his own. This was a solid main event, although the crowd seemingly was only rooting for Haas because of Swagger’s heat. The pace picked up as time went on. Swagger gave Haas a belly-to-belly suplex, and picked him up, gave him a second, and then gave him a third. He went for the Gutwrench Powerbomb, but Haas slid out of it. Haas went for a German Suplex, but Swagger elbowed his way out of that. After a kick to the gut, Swagger nailed Haas with the Gutwrench Powerbomb to get another victory. Winner: Jack SwaggerAfter the match, ECW Champion, “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin made his way out. Swagger seemed proud of himself as the show went off the air.

ECW Championship: “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin (ECW Champion) vs. “The All-American American” Jack SwaggerWrestling Observer Newsletter NotesTake it for what it’s worth, but the rumor going around is that ECW will have an additional gimmick match at No Mercy. Maria is expected to take over as the backstage announcer for ECW, and possibly Smackdown. It is unsure on what Rebecca DiPietro’s role will be after this.

Jack Swagger as the new number one contender is awesome, although doesn't that mean the No Mercy match will be heel vs. heel? Not too fond of that. Not surprised that Val Venis lost to Zack Ryder. Ultimo Dragon finally getting a win is good stuff, although I really can't see you doin anything with him except maybe a possible Rey Mysterio feud. Colin Delaney as the #1 Contender to the Television Title is.. interesting to say the least. Can't see him coming close to even winning. Loved the ending to Kendrick vs. London. Creative stuff there. I can somehow see Layla turning on London. A win for Swagger is good since he's challenging for the ECW Title.

Expected win by Ryder, like Mysterio/Ultimo there... think they could team up soon maybe? Delaney winning TV Title contendership? Ugh. I don't like that, think DH could of been better for it. But, he got a roll up win which makes it meh. TBK over London is good, and Swagger beating Haas is good. Just think Haas should of had another shot and the contendership could of been the next week.

- Three times in a row? Ryder needs someone else to beat up. - Hopefully this means Dragon will have some sort of decent comeback. - I've always seen Colin as a jobber, so him as the number one contender doesn't really interest me. DH Smith would've been a way better choice. - Liked the ending of Kendrick/London. I really see Layla turning on London as well. - Swagger gets a good win this week. Benjamin/Swagger should be a interesting contest.

-Swagger/Benjamin has the potential to be amazing, but I'm not sure if Benjamin is a face -Ryder with two chicks is a great idea, glad he won again -Ultimo winning is good, nice to see him back on track for now -Not a fan at all of Colin Delany becoming the number one contender. Would've rather had it be DH Smith. Interesting to split Maria & Santino. Speaking of Smith, you should bring in Kidd -I love the idea of Kendrick and Zeke using Layla to get the win, works perfectly and keeps making Kendrick look golden -Swagger over Haas was the right call, but it was a good main event. Can't wait for Shelton/Swagger
Very good show and looking forward to No Mercy

Loving Zacks and Venis feud glad Ryder is getting the wins, meh at Ultimo getting a win wish he was just released, suprised at Colin winning hopefully he puts up a fight against Kingston, wonder what Maria will do now? strange ending to London/Kendrick but at least that mean they are going to fight more, Swagger winning is awsome and makes sense storyline wise, Maria taking over is good, good luck and keep this up

ECW.Com PreviewLast week, “The All-American American” Jack Swagger was named the #1 Contender for Shelton Benjamin’s ECW Championship. What will happen when the cocky contender is under the same roof as The Gold Standard? Speaking of Jack Swagger, he will team up with Michelle McCool to take on “Party Boy” Paul London and Layla in a mixed tag team match. After London’s rough past few weeks, will Swagger make them even rougher? Arguably ECW’s most exciting superstar, Rey Mysterio will take on the now single Santino Marella. Tune in this Tuesday on Sci-Fi at 9 PM EST to see all of this unfold!

(September 16th, 2008) Mixed Tag Team Match: Layla & “Party Boy” Paul London vs. Michelle McCool & “The All-American American” Jack SwaggerSwagger was named #1 contender for the ECW Championship last week, while London got screwed once again against Kendrick. So this made for quite the interesting opening match. It was a pretty good opener, with the men doing most of the work. Near the end, The Brian Kendrick came down to ringside and taunted Layla. This distracted London, as if Swagger needed it. But Swagger utilized that distraction and pinned London following the Gutwrench Powerbomb. Winners: Michelle McCool & Jack SwaggerAs London recovered, he tried chasing Kendrick backstage. Eric Bischoff and Maryse came out a few moments later. Bischoff announced that HIS original idea, Pick Your Poison, is making its return right here, tonight. He said that since Swagger just wrestled, Swagger gets to pick who Shelton Benjamin faces tonight. And next week, Shelton will choose Swagger’s opponent. Rebecca DiPietro attempted to interview Zack Ryder backstage, who was with Ashley and Joy Giovanni. Instead of answering Rebecca’s question, Ryder started flirting with her. Ryder grabbed her, and started briefly making out with Rebecca. After a few seconds of that, the three of the girls left with Ryder. Nunzio vs. Ultimo DragonIt really does seem like Rey Mysterio’s words lit a fire under Ultimo. Ultimo looked impressive here, as Nunzio gave it his all as well. However, Ultimo was able to make Nunzio tap out within a few minutes with the Dragon Sleeper. Winner: Ultimo DragonPaul London and Layla appeared on the screen. London said that he is getting screwed by the week because of Kendrick, and he wants it to be done with. Kendrick and Ezekiel Jackson then appeared. London told Kendrick that he wants one more match with him. Kendrick said that he has beaten London twice, and there shouldn’t be another match. But Kendrick told London to meet him in the ring next week, as he will bring an interesting proposal for him. Simon Dean was talking to Colin Delaney, as Delaney was doing push-ups. Dean told Delaney to take notes during the next match, as well as take his protein shakes. Non-Title Match: Kofi Kingston (Television Champion) vs. Simon Dean w/Colin DelaneyDelaney is the #1 Contender for Kofi’s title, so he was accompanying his partner out there. Delaney was drinking protein shakes while the match was going on. Dean was able to keep it remotely competitive due to distractions from Delaney. But at the end, Kofi hit the Trouble In Paradise. And because Delaney was too concerned with his protein shake, he did not notice that Kofi picked up the three count. Winner: Kofi KingstonBackstage, Zack Ryder, accompanied by Ashley, Joy Giovanni, and now Rebecca DiPietro, approached Tommy Dreamer. Ryder said that Dreamer is just an old pile of nothing, who was beaten a few weeks ago by an up-and-coming star, just like himself. And, Ryder told Dreamer to look at the sexy women that he has with him, that he called the “Zack Pack”. He ended with “Woo, woo, woo, you know it” as Dreamer just shook his head. Before the next match, Santino Marella said that “the women’s will not-a hold me up anymore!”. He was trying to say that due to the fact that Maria broke up with him, nothing will stop him now. Rey Mysterio vs. Santino MarellaThis could be viewed as filler to some extent, but the crowd was certainly into it. Santino did his usual comedy spots, while Mysterio looked good out there. Santino went for his diving head butt spot, but he missed. It was all over from there as Mysterio took over and hit the 619. He followed that up with the West Coast Pop, and picked up the win. Winner: Rey MysterioECW Champion, “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin was talking backstage with Charlie Haas. Haas said that if he could be honest with him, he was worried about Shelton’s chances at No Mercy. He said Swagger has been on a roll. Shelton couldn’t believe that Haas was talking like that, and he reminded Haas that he has been ECW Champion for over five months now. Shelton said that just like at No Mercy, he will be victorious tonight, regardless of who he is facing. Non-Title Match; Pick Your Poison: Ezekiel Jackson w/The Brian Kendrick vs. “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin (ECW Champion)This was an interesting choice for Swagger to pick, as Zeke is huge, and is undefeated so far in his brief career. Zeke showed his power early, but Shelton was able to work around it. During the match, Jack Swagger was shown on the titantron, which obviously distracted Shelton. He was shown standing over Charlie Haas, who was motionless on the ground! Regardless of what happened, Zeke kept attacking Shelton. Wanting to get backstage, Shelton gave Zeke a low blow, and that caused the referee to ring the bell. Winner: Ezekiel Jackson (By DQ)Shelton started running backstage, but as he got up the ramp, Swagger appeared and gave him a big clothesline. Shelton started rolling towards the ring, and then got up, and started brawling with Swagger. But, an upset Zeke (because of the low blow) joined in on the attack. Swagger and Zeke (and Kendrick a little bit) got Shelton into the ring. They stomped away on him, and then Zeke picked Shelton up, and gave him a one-handed Choke Slam, which is apparently called the Ura-nage. Zeke looked like he wanted to give Shelton a Jackhammer, but Kendrick made Zeke leave the ring. Swagger taunted Shelton as he gave him a Gutwrench Powerbomb. Swagger stood tall over Shelton to end the show.

ECW Championship: “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin (ECW Champion) vs. “The All-American American” Jack SwaggerWrestling Observer Newsletter NotesRey Mysterio has been a little unhappy with the fact that he is on the “C” show, and not even a top priority. However, officials want to leave him on the show as it gives ECW a top face. As hinted based on Rebecca DiPietro joining Zack Ryder, Maria is expected to start as the backstage interviewer for ECW next week.

Swagger and McCool winning is good, I just wasn't much a fan of the match set up. Ultimo had a losing streak, and now is starting up a win streak? Cool. Kingston over Dean is obviously the better choice. Mysterio over Santino is also the better choice. Meh on the Shelton getting DQ'd to go backstage, think it would of been better if he got counted out. However, okay show.

I'm glad to see this diary is back, I was always a fan. I was literally about to write "I'm not a huge fan of Swagger needed a distraction to beat London" - but I saw that you covered that in the write up, I'm glad Swagger picked up the win but London seems to be on a big losing streak lately! Hopefully he and Kendrick get a PPV match. I always thought Pick Your Poison was an awesome concept.
Glad to see Dragon pick up a win. I wonder what Kendricks proposal will be? I seriously love what you're doing with Dean/Delaney. I seriously hope that Delaney gets the title and a LONG run with it. Zack Pack... LOL, brilliant. Mysterio winning makes sense. I loved the beat down to end the show, the idea of them all getting in on it and then Kendrick demanding Zeke leaves. Swagger standing tall is good. I hope he gets the strap.
Will keep reading.

ECW.Com PreviewLast week, “The All-American American” Jack Swagger picked Ezekiel Jackson to face ECW Champion, “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin. And with odds against him, Benjamin was left lying on the ground. Who will “The Gold Standard” choose for his #1 Contender to face off against? Find out as the ECW Champion gets to pick Jack Swagger’s poison. After essentially ruining his personal and professional life, The Brian Kendrick told “Party Boy” Paul London that if he wants one more match, then Kendrick says what goes. What does the conniving superstar have in mind? Longtime backstage announcer Rebecca DiPietro was seemingly recruited last week by Zack Ryder, joining the “Zack Pack”. Who will fill in for her role? Tune in this Tuesday on Sci-Fi at 9 PM EST to see all of this unfold!

- Been enjoying Jack Swagger's push, can see him beating Shelton Benjamin for the ECW Championship at the Pay-Per-View. - Pick Your Poison was always a fun idea, nice to see it coming back. - Ultimo hasn't been doing much recently, just random matches, I hope he gets in a feud soon, maybe with Mysterio. - Kofi going over makes sense, I like the pairing of Simon Dean and Colin Deleney - Mysterio over Santino was also the right choice. - Main event was fun, I like the ending with Swagger taking out Charlie Haas backstage. Swagger ending the show on top is gold and I really hope he wins the title at the ppv.

Not surprised that Jack Swagger and Michelle McCool beat Layla and Paul London in the opener. Pick Your Poison? Awesome. Is it bad that I remember Rebecca DiPietro? A win for Ultimo Dragon is good. I just hope you find something for him. Not surprised at Kofi Kingston going over Simon Dean. Liked that Delaney was too busy drinking his protein shake, haha. I liked that Swagger attacked Charlie Haas backstage during Shelton vs. Ezekiel Jackson. I hate that Shelton, a face, low blowed Zeke to lose. Would have been better if Shelton was able to escape the ring and run away, or Kendrick attacked Shelton.

-McCool and Swagger winning was the right call as Swagger is getting the monster push right now, which I love -Pick Your Poison should be a great idea, wonder who Swagger will pick -Ryder locking up all the ladies on ECW is an interesting idea -Ultimo winning was nice -Wonder what Kendrick's proposal will be -Kofi winning the non-title match was good and it helps build towards Kofi/Delany -The Zack Pack is classic -Mysterio over Marella is the right call -Interesting to have Haas doubt Shelton -Shelton losing to go save Haas was a good idea and the beating he suffered at the hands of Swagger and Ezekiel was brutal
Great stuff as usual, loving Swagger/Shelton and hope their match steals the show at No Mercy.

The opener seemed too good to open, continuing the London/Kendrick feud is awsome, would like to see London get a little push after his feud, Swagger push is awsome, Whoa Ryder ladies man, I can see Dragon eventually facing Rey, sad that Dean went in instead of Colin who could have used some Lucha madness to combat Kofi's style, Ryder/Dreamer is a little too early but still cool, meh at Rey's match doesn't seem to be doing much, nice main event would have rathered a count out win for Zeke as I don't like a face hitting a low blow, good luck and keep this up.

ECW on Sci-Fi: Tuesday 9th September 2008...Nice opening segment to get us started after Unforgiven, Shelton Benjamin coming out and bragging about his ECW Championship defenses. It's been a quick reign from Benjamin's reign since Backlash, actually, very quickly gone by. Charlie Haas coming back to Shelton Benjamin again is nice, and I like Jack Swagger coming out to face Haas, but why do I think you're trying to turn Benjamin face? Is Haas a face still? Benjamin turning face would be bad in my eyes. Zack Ryder beating Val Venis is blah, another match that is unnecessary but it powers the obnoxious Ryder's ego. Interesting storyline, hopefully Venis retires soon, as there's not much left for him. Ultimo Dragon beating Steven Richards is fine, was a pretty good bout from what I saw. Please drop the censor gimmick that Richards still has from the Right to Censor. It's extremely past its' prime. Richards needs reinventing. Something new. Colin Delaney getting a shot at the WWE Television Championship sure is different, but I sure do hope that Kofi Kingston retains against this guy. DH Smith was a guy that truly needed this win in my eyes. And Santino Marella...is Santino Marella. Great bout between The Brian Kendrick and Paul London, The hostage finish was sneaky, very nice touch. Lastly, good win for Jack Swagger over Charlie Haas. Swagger and Benjamin should have a good ECW Championship bout, maybe it's Swagger's time to shine by winning. But Benjamin seemingly turning face is bad; but if Swagger's turning face, that'd be bad too.
ECW on Sci-Fi: Tuesday 16th September 2008...Good opening contest to get things started, but it doesn't really appeal to Jack Swagger's personality. He should drop Michelle McCool for a more unlimited variety of what he can do. This match just wasn't necessary for Swagger. If Paul London and Layla had fought somebody else, that'd have been better. I'd have just liked Swagger facing London, personally. Pick Your Poison was always an interesting stipulation, good to see it making a return. Ultimo Dragon beating Nunzio doesn't surprise me. Paul London and The Brian Kendrick's angle should be stretched out; they could be leaders of opposite teams at Survivor Series. Kofi Kingston beating Simon Dean is good, but I hope that Kofi and Colin Delaney don't compete for the WWE Television Championship at No Mercy. Haha, Zack Ryder with three girls now. Tommy Dreamer's interaction could lead to Ryder getting another win, but I seriously see nothing of it being good for Dreamer, other than the old 'grizzled veteran goes crazy on youngster' angle. Rey Mysterio beating Santino Marella is fine, no problem there. Ezekiel Jackson against Shelton Benjamin? Yeah, it definitely seems like Shelton Benjamin is turning face. Hopefully you can make it work unlike what WWE has attempted. Shelton getting himself disqualified is a nice touch. Wow, the three on one attack was a nice ending. No Charlie Haas though, hmm. More of a story maybe. Good edition this week.
