We got Hogan figures from Storm that represented the height of his WWF run. Why would Owen be any different? Hogan owns his trademarks. I’m actually surprised the pink sunglasses were allowed on the brawler, but he’s not getting hearts or caution tape or the black hart symbol. The best we’d get is a black singlet with pink trim and no logos. But does WWE own the trademark to all of those things, and if so, how did the Legends of Wrestling game use them for Owen?

Right, but as long as they don't use any copyrighted logos, I don't see what the issue could be...There have been many micro brawlers of guys in their WWF attires. Yeah, that's why I figure they can do something like the Brawler. Stuff like king of Harts/Black Hart/Caution Tape that was never worn anywhere else would probably be no-go. I'll gladly take Owen in a generic black singlet with pink trim or pink with black trim, and with different heads (long hair, slicked back hair, short spiky hair).

Here's a thing -- WWE would look SO petty and horrible if they claim copyright over designs for a wrestler they basically murdered (of course, by accident -- but still).
If I were Jazzwares, I would have tried to get permission from WWE and then publicized the hell out of it if they said no.

I think we can get some of his popular ring attires if Legends of Wrestling is anything to go by. It might just be Martha Hart trying to distance herself from Owens WWF career.

I'm sure we'll eventually get something approximating the black singlet, pink trim, and some kind of generic/new logo with a heart in it. It's the classic Owen look, you need to do it. The Danger singlet? I'm less sure of that. Even without legal issues (and there may not be any, I'm no lawyer) it doesn't feel essential enough to be worth the effort. And that was one of my personal favorite looks.

Doesn’t Bret Hart own his own IP? In theory Jazwares could license it from Bret, things like the pink shades or the winged skull hart, unless he has an exclusive licensing deal with Mattel, which I don’t think he does, since he sells other merch with his IP

Black singlet and pink trim seems likely. Not the exact logos he used in the WWF for obvious reasons but they can either do no logos or do generic ones like the Legends of Wrestling games. Fans will still buy these up regardless.
NJPW and his looks when working the Canadian-scene are likely as well.
Blue Blazer is never gonna happen, and the “Danger” outfit seems iffy as well, but generic versions of his other looks, including the height of his career in the WWF, seem likely as long as Martha ok’s it.

Unrelated to the current topic but that Owen shirt looks goofy with that AEW logo on it, could’ve been a bit more subtle

I would think they could make a few WWF attires, as they're pretty much public domain images, especially with his 'King of Harts' attire. That's just 2 Lions with the "King of Harts between the images & on his torso a heart with a crown on top. Even his Wrestlemania X outfit doesn't look too much like a copywrite headache.
If they go for his Japan look, I can see a lot of customs, providing it also looks like him.

This was in 2 games that WWE had no involvement in: I'd say it's safe to say that any attire Owen wore, aside from Blue Blazer (which would be a big no anyway) is fairgame.

Honestly would be perfectly fine with a solid pink singlet.

I don't think WWE owns the likeness to Owen's attire. Blue blazer yes, but I don't think the attire itself (black, pink, skulls) would be a big deal unless it was something that WWE created themselves.

I would imagine anything, but an outright Slammy on the tights would be fine.

We know bret has had the skull/hart/wings on non wwe stuff so I assume Owen can too - presumably bret owns that design?

Unless, it’s some WWE creation we should be fine. Martha owns his rights, so I believe we should be good. I think WWE just owns his footage from his time there.

Yeah I know bret was disappointed with the Owen dvd as they only had certain footage - all the stampede, Japan, English stuff Owen did Martha owns I believe and she wouldn’t let wee use that or any home footage etc As long as bret and Martha are good (which seems to blow hot and cold) I think we could get better designs than some think

If I were Jazzwares, I would have tried to get permission from WWE and then publicized the hell out of it if they said no. It doesn't work that way. Any logos that WWE came up with for Owen is still their intellectual property. JW might be able to get away making the actual attires Owen wore during his time in WWE but don't expect any of the logos on his singlets. The fact that we've gotten this far with Owen figures now being a reality, compared to where we've been.....it's nothing short of a miracle for collectors. I think Jazwares will do their due diligence and do Owen proud with some amazing pieces for us to collect.

Best case: we get outfits close to or exactly like his most famous spells.
Worst case: we get some nice headscans and base pieces for some folks to make some great customs.
Either way, new Owen figures in modern-day scale and with current tech will be fantastic to have.
