I mentioned this in another thread but as a general view, I completely get the rationale and sometimes requirement to utilise existing or old parts on new product but does anyone else feel like we’re getting worked here?
I had started to think it for a while now, especially with the Ultimate Edition line and now with some of the reveals we’ve seen today.
Hogan UE reused NWO head with stubble. Survivor series Hogan re-use of RSC Exclusive blue and white face. UE Warrior a HUGE missed opportunity to give us a REAL warrior head and instead we’ve effectively got the same warrior already released twice but now for premium price?
Every Taker head seems to be old man bone yard taker scan with different paint. You can’t pass off an old man as 25 years ago.
Triple H head used over and over, latest elite 86 (and looks like the upcoming legends is a re-issue of the old elite of the same time?)
There are loads of other examples that suck and to be completely fair there are times where it works fine and I get it…the new Canadian Earthquake a great example. That to me is fine, cheap to make but gives us a Quaker that’s needed and existing head is good enough. Same with the new Jake, slight repaint of old legends figure, so cheap but we get the black glove and it goes with the macho UE. Again, it works and the head is a good head. So there are some justified ones that work well but over the last year or so, I just feel like the balance is way off at the moment and it feels even worse when we aren’t getting much in the way of FTITL legends.

I don’t. They are toys. It’s a hobby. If I don’t like how something turns out, I don’t buy it. Why I don’t get too excited until I see an announcer figure.

To be somewhat generous to Mattel, my hope is these recycled figures are meant to help midstream collectors "catch-up" without paying scalper prices. But jokes on them, as the online ordering system is such a fiasco, they'll end up on eBay either way lol. I kid, somewhat. But yeah, I think a lot of us saw stuff today and said to ourselves, "Damn that looks familiar...". As for where we draw the line, maybe I'm getting older, but I've bought way fewer figs over the past 5 years. Not out of spite, just a lack of compelling product at times.

That’s cool, everyone to their own and this kind of response I expected. Personally I find it hard to not buy a figure that I think is ‘needed’ in the collection. Everyone is different but I suspect there are lots of people like me that Mattel think they can take advantage of as we’ll buy anyway. ‘Just stick that old head on and paint that, the suckers will buy it’ - that’s the vibe I’m getting and I’m not sure ‘well, just don’t buy it then’ is what we should be saying as a collector group.

I’d like to see another Kane elite with a brand new molded mask sculpt, the one they use now makes his face look flat plus it’s been used over & over to the point it’s worn out….his new basic SummerSlam figure has a new one but it seems oddly off, just didn’t do anything for me ….personally I like the elite Kane figures with the removable masks because they look more realistic, to me anyway

I’m more pissed about the preorder debacles than anything else.

Watch the sdcc rundown video where they show off the new damien priest elite. From the torso down, probably all entirely new sculpts and amazing detail on his pants.

There are more important problems with the hobby like availability in stores and switcheroos.

Eh I try not to let it bother me too much. If it’s something I can do a fix up on or something then it’s whatever. Like I finished my Matt Riddle custom the same day I got E78 and I took the accessories and head and threw the figure away and if it’s a glaring issue that I can’t I just try to ignore it and look on the bright side. I still have the figure of someone that I can use in my fed! Certain things like AJ using the Bryan mold does greatly annoy me but I still collect AJ because I love his gear and getting new figures of him

The Triple H boots annoys me the most. I can always do a head swap, but I’m not trying to find the right size calves for tall boots and repaint them to metallic purple(blue) or red every time they show the right ones in a render and release short ones with painted legs. E23 spreadsheets. I just gave up buying them…

I backed the ring and will absolutely get the Hogan, Undertaker, and Kane Ultimates...
But more than anything, I honestly want Hasbro to get the license back. They would bring the freaking house down no doubt in my mind.
I love you.

I hate that they keep using that same Jake the Snake head on every figure. It’s the same with Rick Rude, they never make a sculpt with the slicked back hair. Jake especially, he’s always got his baby face head, when he was heel, his hair was very wet and slicked back. I wish they’d make a new head.
I also don’t understand how WrestleMania 6 Warrior won that poll when wrestling fans don’t even want the same character twice, let alone the same attire for the THIRD time!

Their spreadsheet excuse is the absolute laziest bs I’ve ever heard. Mattel has never, ever said they use spreadsheets. It was entirely a thing a user here said and it spread like it was a fact. it was probably me. Whether or not it’s a physical spreadsheet of data, there is undeniably a pattern of once a figure from an era gets made they keep those parts regardless of render images showing otherwise. People complained 7-8 years ago when e23 came out that it had short boots and painted legs. Then they just kept releasing it with different heads and paint. Macho man calves and boots exist, but are somehow incompatible with triple h legs. It’s like the wrist peg colors thing. They could fix it, but it would cost a bit more money and they have a budget. I get it, but it sucks when it keeps happening. Used to feel special, still is but it’s been so long since Jakks and it’s still better but we get those corner cuts and it sucks.

I believe the first time I saw it was from that guy who ran Bill off by complaining about the E39 Sting. He even made a thread about it, IIRC.

Personally I don’t like having customs in my collection, they make me feel itchy as they’re not the product as they were brought out…that’s just a weird thing I have and that’s on me but again, I shouldn’t be expected to pay £20-40 for a figure and have to correct it myself 😅

Thunder ChunkyCould’ve been. That was rough. He went in so hard off of one or two pics and then the actual head was like a perfect modern day Sting likeness, if painted right. I was pretty mad about the USA Sting having a Batista torso and laced boots, but they fixed one of those and at least the jacket covers the torso. But they used it twice again when we all thought a Bulldog torso would have made more sense. That was probably an issue of wanting prime Sting to look as jacked as possible for a figure when we want real ness. They did it with the Rock where they started life like with flashbacks using a Bulldog torso, and modern day with triple H/Early Cena torso. Then they messed themselves up with the RSE being a 98 Rock with a 2013 torso. Then shortly released the Rocky Maivia with the right one, AND they made Stings with smaller torsos so it’s not completely impossible, it’s. just. spreadsheets…
