These are horrible. It isn't even a matter of looking bad, it's that the figures themselves are not up to the standards of 2021 for a $20 mass market toy let alone a made to order $50 product. The paint looks much better in Brian's pics, but the sculpts are weak and barely resemble the real person. Unacceptable in the world of face printing where you can get a nearly photorealistic likeness in a cheap toy. The plastic is shiny and soft-looking like a cheap old toy instead of a collectible reproduction of a person. The bodies are embarrassing. How do you mess up the scale that badly when each figure has a unique sculpt? How do you think that the U-cut torso joints are a good decision when Mattel should have stopped doing them seven years ago? How do you mess up simple details like Ishii's wrist tape? Why do $50 figures not have double jointed elbows or knees? It is impossible for these figures to be posed doing the moves these wrestlers are known for. How do you do a Rainmaker when you can't bend the elbow enough for a ripcord? How do you do a hidden blade when the figures can't convincingly get on their knees? Imagine if Kenny was still with NJPW, his figure wouldn't be able to do a V-Trigger. The gear looks pretty good, but it's oversized and the belts seem to have inaccurate paint still. I'm not convinced they even tried with Ospreay. I now don't blame NJPW at all with their withholding of approval. It's clear that they don't like these. Japan is the home of the best action figure tech and sculpts in the world and these don't match the standards of $4 sofubi Ultraman sculpts, let alone the articulation of price-competitive s.h. figuarts. I figured this would happen after pics of their Conan stuff came out, but this is still disappointing. Hopefully the AEW-NJPW partnership moves into merchandise and we can get Unrivaled versions of these guys as they are some of the best wrestlers in history and deserve figures that can stand next to their contemporaries without looking inferior.
I don't like these figures, but there's a lot of answers to your questions.
It's a new line -- so everything needs new tooling. Look at the initial Mattel figures -- they weren't great also. It costs Super 7 SOOO much more to manufacture a figure and pay design costs for such a small run -- that's why the cost is higher even though the quality is not.
And they just don't have experience doing humans. Their Ninja Turtle Playmates recreations are the same price -- and SO much better. I bet the Cardona/Myers Super 7 figures will also be horrible. They shouldn't have jumped into the line if they didn't know they could do it well

These only look decent when their entrance gear is on. The bodies on them look bad across the board. I have no regrets about passing these up.

I'll have mine in on Monday for full observations. I have my concerns (I just don't get the "Ross Gellar fell asleep in a tanning bed" skin tone, it looks like the exact opposite problem of AEW series 1) but I at least feel a little better with these normal camera photos compared to the initial Ringside photos.

These figures have overwhelming X-Pac heat.

I don't disagree with most of your points. But at the end of the day most of the issues you mention, while fair, should be Super 7's problem, not the consumer's. It's their job to find a way to deliver a product that consumers like at their desired price point. And when you operate on a print to order model, that's the risk/reward you run as a company. If the line was a smash hit and they blew by their target sales, it's not like they're doing to partially refund all of the buyers because their cost per unit ended up lower than expected. They take that straight to the bank, and similarly they assume the risk if they deliver a subpar product for the price point. And while it is a small batch product, this line has pretty good distribution for being online-only and initial response indicated pretty strong sales. Again, it's on Super 7 if they underinvested in the product, or misread their audience and skewed the budget too heavily towards accessories than the figures themselves. If you don't have experience designing human figures, hire a designer who does. They sold a product sight unseen, did everything possible to keep info close to the vest until the product was live, and are going to have to deal with whatever comes from here. Judging by the responses, it seems like there may be a lot of cancellations for their other figures in production. The figures are what they are. And for hardcore NJPW fans, I'm sure something is better than nothing. But the initial backlash can't be a great indicator for Super 7 if they want to continue to branch into wrestling.

It's very unfortunate. I suggest super 7 do the bare minimum and send out c grip hands with no molded tape to those who purchased them. Brian from s7 just admitted that was a mistake.

Okay, still too lazy for pics. But here's my thoughts:
Overall: I'm let down. They're not awful by any means, or even bad. I just expected better. But hey, how else will you get NJPW figures?
The packaging: A+! The outer box is a nice touch. Clean and beautiful. Easy to open and close. The inner box comes in a protective plastic wrap. Nice touch. The actual box it gorgeous and very well made. Clean. It has a slide action that lifts off to reveal the actual figure package. Which too is gorgeous.
The clothing: The coats are OUT OF THIS WORLD. They blow anything Mattel has EVER made out of the water. They are simply stunning!
The accessories: Okada comes with money and it's TERRIBLE. It does not look like money ... at all. His neckwear is okay. Nothing spceial. Ishii comes with a chair and it's very similar to Pac's AEW chair. CHEAP. Tanahashi comes with a cool guitar and it's pretty sweet. Will comes with a CHEAP trophy but a very awesome sword.
The belts: My wife makes amazing custom belts, so nothing will ever beat those. But these belts are SO MUCH better than anything Mattel has ever made. The paint is top notch for a mass produced line and the sculpting is very good too. The strap is what you'd expect for a mass produced line.
The scale: NOT AS BAD AS YOU THNK! In fact, NOT BAD AT ALL! Compared to a Mattel Lesnar, Okada is only a tad shorter so ... no issues really. Ishii is about the same height as the Mattel Tyler Bate. Ospreay is a bit taller than a Mattel CM Punk. Tana is about the same as a Mattel Balor. I may have mixed up those last two comparisons. Anyway, in hand they're really not as frustrating as you think.
And now ...
OKADA: TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE paint job. WAY too dark and covered in a black shadow all over the figure. It WILL buff off, but still ... tragic. The face is too plain and really doesn't look much like him. The hair has no highlights and NEEDS them. The torso is ... meh. The legs are good though. I'll see what it looks like after I calean it up ... but wow ... BAD.
Ishii: GREAT! Yes, the torso gap is real. But pushing it forward makes it go away. His arms could be bigger, and the thigh gap looks odd but only if you make his legs perfectly straight. But I really like him. No weird shading like on Okada. The wrists/hands are an issue but I'll get to that. WAY better than Okada.
Will: Pretty good! Not as great as Ishii, but way better than Okada. He suffers from shading that just isn't natural, but it will buff off! The wrist tape is BAD though. The shadow spray they used for the body got all over it. This can be painted though. Tights are stellar ... but look short due to his muscular torso. He could be less tan ... but overall he's actually ok. The neck issue isn't that bad. Noticeable, yes. Horrible, no.
Tana: GREAT! Probably the best of the bunch. The alt head looks much better than the regular and hides the neck issues. Like Ishii, it lacks an overuse of shadows which is great. Torso is solid, legs are solid. He's a must have.
Heads: They fit on both AEW and Mattel pegs! In fact, if you can find a skin tone to match Ospreay, and you want to risk it, you can customize him to have a Mattel torso and have a perfect figure!
Customizing: Only the heads and hands pop off. The hands/wrists are AWFUL. Bad design. I've yet to see if I can tone match, then place a Mattel or AEW hand into the NJPW arm. Might work. The arms will need heat to remove. The torso will not pop off like AEW. Legs look to be ratchet? But again, the tights look incredible so I'd never touch them.
Extra hands: ALL THE SAME. Every guy comes with the SAME HANDS. Just matched to tone. AND YES they forgot to paint the tape on ALL the hands even though these guys don't use tape. But thankfully they come with enough non-taped hands so you don't need it to be an issue ... other than the crap wrists. Okada has the black shadow all over them, but you can acetone that right off.
So yeah ... sorry for no pics yet. I'm SO excited to have NJPW figures ... but wish they were better. I'll def do some doctoring to make them better. WOULD buy again. Already have S2 pre-orderd. But yes, if there is a S3 ... I'll do it. Hopefully Super 7 learns from their first try and can fix the small stuff.

Also with them having no upper right swivel, is it gonna be a big problem or is the leg flexibility good.

So yeah ... sorry for no pics yet. How do they feel, like the plastic and weight of the figure? Also with them having no upper right swivel, is it gonna be a big problem or is the leg flexibility good. They weight feels like Mattel.
They swivel at the crotch similar to ToyBiz, but unlike Toybiz the "ball" is hidden. They also swivel at the knee instead of the boot.
They also move like AEW, with that ridgid bumpy feel.

Just to add from above, the leg turns 360 degrees at the crotch AND the knee.
The boot does not swivel (think Jakks), but with the other two that isn't an issue. They also swivel at the waist of course. They stand very well.

So I'm sitting here watching cartoons with my 2.5 year old.
They more I handle these figures, the more I like them! Hopefully pics when she goes down for a nap. You know what? They're actually pretty good. Just like with S1 AEW ... just a few kinks to work out.

Thanks for the answers. When you say that the black shadow on Okada can be buffed out, you mean like removed with acetone?

Thanks for the answers. When you say that the black shadow on Okada can be buffed out, you mean like removed with acetone? Noooooo. Well, maybe the rubber parts like the arm. It would eat through the torso plastic. Like, a nail buffer bar. It will get the black off. Then you can spray the torso with matte.
It's like they did his five o clock shadow all over his body. It's just ugly. Ospreay has too much too, but pink of course. Ishii and Tana are fine.
No clue who made these figures but Okada is not that dark. He's Hogan glazed donut dark on this figure, lol. I don't think there's any fixing it.
It also looks like they share the same arm sculpt. Looks fine on all of them but Ishii. He would look better if his arms were beefier.

I think that's how the knee works ... plus being able to bend it like a knee. It looks like it's a knee combined with a ball joint somehow. All pinless.

This is the knee swivel. It has your standard knee joint, but with a pin on the end for the shin to rotate 360:
And this is the thigh swivel. Similar to old Marvel Toybiz, but you can't see the ball like you could with those. NOTE, the photo is me rotating it out so you can see it. If you look at the regular shot of Ishii, you can't see it:

Ospreys long torso seems to be the culprit as to why hes so tall.
