You got to build stars from square one. But that's exactly the problem with Jinder Mahal. He hasn't been built from square one. He jumped right ahead to square ten. He went from jobbing from years, to being a roster cut, to doing nothing of any note, to suddenly having a monster push for the WWE Championship. No buildup whatsoever, no midcard title reign, no notable feuds. Just straight from almost the bottom of the pile, all the way to the top overnight. It's good to make new stars, but they have to do it the right way. There has to be some sort of buildup. This is not the right way to do it at all, and is extremely laughable, to put it kindly, and just shows how much the writers don't care.

I wouldn't mind it at this point.
Randy is atrociously boring.

I don't think people will care much either way, except in India, where it'd be a big deal for the local fans. In America and the UK, crowds only care a lot about whatever Roman Reigns is doing.

Jinder Mahal can't possibly be a worse champion than Randy Orton. The WWE title scene has been a nightmare since the Royal Rumble and honestly I think putting the belt on Jinder would be a step in the right direction from what they've been doing lately with Orton and Bray.
I like SD's title scene more so than Raw because Raw you can predict the big match-ups they are working towards like Brock vs. Roman, Brock vs. Strowman, so you know what is filler and what isn't. Smackdown isn't as obvious so therefore Jinder winning the WWE title actually seems more likely to happen than it should.
EDIT: Just wanted to say Jinder WOULD be the kind of guy to win the WWE title and get busted for steroids within the next 24-48 hours.

Not that it means much, but Jinder is currently the betting favorite to win the WWE Championship.

If he does win, it will probably be a short reign like Khali. I wouldn't be surprised if he won since wwe is apparently is really trying to appeal to the market in India. Is putting the championship on Jinder Mahal acceptable even from a business standpoint? The WWE probably thinks since India has 5 times the population of the US, they will get 5 times the ratings over there but at the expense of ratings getting lower and lower in the US?

I could see Randy Orton and Jinder Mahal trading Championship Title wins, eventually making Orton a 16 time World Champion. Then at WrestleMania, it will be John Cena vs. Randy Orton for the vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship Title Belt, determining who will be the first ever record breaking 17 time World Champion!!
I'd even give Triple H a couple of Championship runs to add him to the match.

I wish AJ Styles was still champ.

As far as I'm concerned, the WWE championship hasn't meant squat the last few months. Misstep after misstep has done the title no favors. And IMO the WWE title can't be hurt any more than it is now.
The Orton/Bray feud certainly did not need the WWE title. IMO AJ Styles should have held that title till WM. Then Cena vs AJ could have been the SD main event. Then the record tying 16 could have meant more while Cena could have had a better reign. But it's been abysmal since having Bray win the title only to feed him to Orton it a (mega) dud of a match.
So Jinder can't do more damage than has already been done the last few months.

He's the most talked about wrestler behind Roman Reigns, it only makes sense to give him the belt.

I say go for it Jinder has impressed me over the past few weeks. I admit he's no AJ, Zayn or Corbin but he has came on pretty well.

I hope he does win. It will certainly be more interesting that Orton's reign.
And I like Orton, it's just not been good.

IF he wins it will be the single most shocking WWE Championship win in the history of the company. Because as far as a track record? Jinder Mahal belongs NOWHERE NEAR a top title.
They are just building suspense a different way this time....him winning out of nowhere was a shock, got people talking. Then this whole India thing....it was put out by the WWE they are looking to expand...so people are just assuming. And they've done a fair job of making him look legit in the last couple weeks.
In the end this is Vince McMahon doing what he does best....trolling his fanbase. It's how they do everything nowadays. You want AJ styles as world champ? here's randy orton. You want Roman Reigns out of the main event? here's him retiring the Undertaker closing out his 3rd consecutive Wrestlemania. Tomorrow is no different....Jinder Mahal is not gonna be added to the list of former WWE Champions.....at least not yet.

Jinder won, and I'm not mad. Better than Orton being champ any longer. I also think he sold extremely well for Orton tonight, and gave him one of his better matches in recent memory

I honestly thought both would be fodder.

Honestly, Bruno finally losing the belt to Ivan had to have been much more shocking.
