I think WWE books certain champions like that to prevent them from becoming the cool heel. They know the fans want to cheer Rollins, so they make him out to be the slimy-win-at-all-costs champion. That way he continues to get boo'ed. He's booked much like Triple H & Flair have been almost their entire careers. It's an old school approach. Which is awesome, except for he didn't win. He looked inferior to the US Champion in every way. He didn't get a run-in, the Horsemen didn't attack Cena for the DQ, Rollins didn't give Cena a low blow to end the match prematurely, Cena just won. Cena just tapped out the "top guy" in the company in about 3 seconds, all while sporting a midcard title. Last night wasn't about getting Rollins boos. It was about getting Cena more cheers, which ultimately makes the older demographic want to stab him. It's common sense. Something WWE has been extremely short on for awhile now. I think he lost last night so casual fans will go into SummerSlam assuming Cena will win again. Rollins title wasn't on the line so losing last night wasn't much of an issue. Just like when Flair would lose almost every tag match he was in just to build up the next contender. But when the title was on the line, he still found a way to win.

CM Punk, at least Rollins gets to main event. You're wrong. Punk aint the only one, watch what happens to your boy at SummerSlam 2015 when he plays second fiddle to Undertaker Vs Brock Lesnar II!

Didn't Seth get pinned by Jamie Noble a few weeks ago? That was worse. Smh I was trying to forget that

I have ZERO issue with Rollins being the sleazy, cowardly, cocky heel. I like it. I think it's great.
However, the world champion should still come across as a legit threat. Period. As sneaky as Ric Flair and Triple H were, they still came across as legit threats who could get the job done.
Rollins...doesn't. This is due to poor booking where he's getting pinned by Jamie Noble or letting John Cena just smirk, smile and giggle while Rollins is talking trash to him on the mic.

Christians title reign was the worst In history imo. He deserved much better than his two day title reign.

I think, more than Cena's victory this week, Cena's promo calling him a joke and a terrible champion hurt him more. Of course the one-two punch of the last two weeks is really what hurt him, but I feel that was more crucial.
More than anything, the WWE scripting people to constantly state how weak of a champion is the biggest thing here, other than booking. It's not just that he doesn't look like a threat, no one sells him as one either. During the lead up to MITB, they constantly acted as if Rollins was incapable of doing anything on his own. The Authority talked crap on him, despite their status as heels; Kane, who hasn't been a threat in years, was treated as someone who Seth feared, and always needed help for in a victory. It was much better when it was just J&J helping him in every match. They're his valets, and they made him look completely superior standing next to them. He never should have lost them, and they should have been his sole means of interference instead of adding Kane into the mix.
Then, in the lead up to Battleground, they never for a moment left him look like someone who stands a chance against Lesnar. I couldn't even believe he could legitimately hit Brock with the Pedigree (I'm not sure if he did in the lead up, can't remember) so if he couldn't hit his finisher how could he possibly win? Then he got even less offense than ace a at Summerslam last year and completely vanished when the Undertaker appeared.
I also think Seth losing the curb stomp, the move that he won the title and injured Ambrose, Orton and Swagger with last summer, right after Mania severely hurt his reign. That move sold him as a threat, despite his stature, and made him believable look like a legitimate top heel. Things have been severely awkward since he lost it; and the Pedigree has to go unless he learns to properly make it look effective.
I love Seth, but he needs to lose the title and start from scratch, I think. This reign has really hurt his image in the long haul.

Seth goes into Championship matches looking like someone that can be beaten. The majority of the crowd that is booing him watches Raw and subscribes to the network to see the PPV in hopes that his next match will be the one where he loses the belt. By some miracle, he pulls off the win and the cycle continues until eventually the belt goes on someone else.
They tried the dominant heel with Brock, and he got cheered more often than not. They even committed to that plan for months to try and make it work. And ratings did not move in either direction much.
The thing about Seth's reign is that when they eventually move onto something else they can either keep him as an angry heel that gets more aggressive, like Orton during his "punt" phase, or he can be turned face and he could start winning matches legitimately, which is sort of the way he looked during the end days of the Shield when they were faces. And yes, I know he could fall to mid-card status and be written off. I'm trying to remain optimistic.
I don't agree with everything WWE does with it's story lines, but I think Seth is playing his hand beautifully. Most MITB winners that cash in successfully (for their first championship) are given a short title run of a month or two, just to test the waters. Seth's first title run has been since WM and the ratings are holding at least.

Am I the only one who thinks this is on purpose? As in, built him as a handcuffed champion now that uses "help" to win so that you can then use Seth's "ability to win matches on his own" as a wedge that divides him from the Authority. They seemed like they were teasing a similar idea around MITB or shortly after. My cynicism says that you're giving WWE too much credit in assuming they're doing anything right on purpose. And if they were planning on doing it that way, then yes, that would have been good. Unfortunately, ratings are sagging and now Big Match John™ is gonna have to be the savior so we'll never know if that was the plan.

I tend to agree with you in that thinking, but I think it hurts the overall desire to see them face each other again. I think the big difference in the comparison is that during the Flair era they weren't going to give you the one-on-one match before you actually paid to see it. Obviously, booking is different now.

I do miss the days when the champion and challenger didn't wrestle till the big PPV showdown. And they spent months building the tension between them. But with the amount of TV they have to fill, I guess those days are behind us for the most part.

The Miz was worse than Rollins as champion, which is sad cause I marked out when he won the belt. Then a few months later, I was wanting him to drop the belt, to anyone, even Cena. Rollins is at that level with me where I just want that title off of him. To me, he looks like a guy who needs some type of interference to win. Other than the ladder match at Money in the Bank, I can't remember any other title match that hasn't had at least one person interfering. I wouldn't have minded if he cheated using the belt, using the ropes, typical heel stuff. When the majority of his title defenses ended under interference from people, that's when I'm like, "OK, I'm sick of seeing this, give me ANYONE else as champion". That's exactly why he's a great heel champion. Well, we'll all have different opinions, but to me a great heel champion was Edge in his second title reign. To me when a champion needs multiple guys interfering to retain his title, he's a weak champion. And I blame this more on the creative team for booking him like a puss. I would have rather seen Rollins use the belt or get himself disqualified. To me that's great heel tactics, not relying on Kane and J & J Security to interfere in his title defenses. Again, we'll all have different opinions and I'm not gonna further argue why I dislike Rollins as a champion. The way he's been booked have caused me to almost change the channel when he's on, and it's a shame because I remember the night he won the title, me and my older brother were on our feet marking out when he cashed in on the main event of Wrestlemania to win the title. Every thing after that soured me on Rollins. I'm not saying this to try and be different than the majority who like Rollins, but because I legit started disliking seeing him on TV, but not to the level of Kane, Big Show, and Mark Henry where I want them gone from WWE.

Personally, I'd have pulled the trigger the Raw after MITB.

There's ZERO chance the end game with Rollins as champ is/was to lose the strap to Cena. If WWE books this right, Cena would be the first credible title defense for Rollins. Seth needs to go over without any help. As a heel, I'm cool with a low blow/roll up to win. As long as he beats Cena without ANYONE helping, there's still time for him to be a credible champion.

I don't have a problem, it's not cena Rock 2 lol.

he's definitely on the list of worst Champions ever:
The Miz Andre the Giant - sorry, but it wasn't even a reign Rey Mysterio Jack Swagger Daniel Bryan - controversial, but, honestly, his 3 reigns amounted to nothing. Seth Rollins

Not near as bad as Miz. Because the Miz was a horrible champion who I don't think should have had the belt.
I've enjoyed Rollins' reign. I'm not a real big fan of him in particular, but he's playing his role to perfection

Seth looks like the coward champion who sneaks by. He's doing it perfectly. Not every heel has to dominate..... This is what I have been saying. He's a heel, and he's drawing heat by being cocky and running away when his mouth gets him a fight he can't win. I think he's doing well in the role.

He's not been booked amazingly but I've really enjoyed his run and want it to continue. He's a hell of a cowardly heel.
