You see, this type of tone deaf mentality is what’s brought us here. You’re privileged enough to reside in a place where these issues don’t affect you and thus you basically have zero right to tell me “buy it or don’t, it’s pretty simple”. Just because the choice is simple for you doesn’t mean it is for everybody else. This thread was made because Mattel has been making it super difficult for fans of WCW to continue collecting and going by most responses, many people agree too. Keeping quiet doesn’t fix anything. Again, I do want to buy it, but I can’t. I’ve been looking forward to this figure since the first announcement but the fact that they’ve gone into scalper territory with the price has really dampened things. Lol this board never ceases to amaze I’m privileged because I’m not going to buy the WCW ring I can’t afford and have no space for If you want the figure buy the ring or find one on eBay. There’s nothing scalperish about this, we knew from the very beginning it was only coming with the ring Uh, no lol. Technically we’re all privileged because we’re on here discussing figures, but yeah in this context the fact that you so readily can say what you said makes you come off as being at least a bit tone deaf to this subject, if not privileged.

The only issue with selling figures with a ring to get people to buy the ring....is you're gonna get a lot of people who don't buy either and then it can trickle down from there. I'd like to have the inverted color Kane ultimate but I have no desire or need for the raw ring. On top of that, since it's a glaring omission...I won't be buying any more Kane figures either cause I no longer "need" to have all the looks. So you could have had me for $30-$40...but now you have me for $0 That’s exactly my point. If the ring is as sought after as many on here seem to infer, then why not release the figure separately for RRP, then also release the ring with the figure in a combo pack for a bit cheaper. You’ll get more people giving you money.

For anyone who has the Kane ultimate that came with the Raw ring..once you open the main box to seperate the figure from the ring is there anyway to view the figure in its own box without opening it? No. Kane and Bischoff come in smaller windowless boxes That’s another thing, they’ve also deterred away MOC collectors

So in order to drive sales for the more niche higher priced products it needs to be packed with a desirable figure.

But what's puzzling is that the ring mould was paid for by the customers, so why are they continuing to push the rings despite the fact that nobody seems to want them? Wouldn’t it be smarter for them to release the figure as is and ditch the ring? I can almost guarantee it would’ve sold out by now if they had done that. Am I missing something here?

I’d kill for them to release mod packs instead of full rings and would welcome buying that with any figure.

I wouldn’t say no one wants them. Raw sold out on RSC and I’m sure it wasn’t solely for Kane. Plus there was clearly a plan to build a whole Monday Night War setup over the course of 2-3 years starting with the Raw ring, the Nitro stage, Nitro ring, and Raw stage. Plus as Steve has explained they don’t have enough rings out there to do add ons. The plan is to eventually just do skirts and ropes and cages but not until there’s enough people who own this scale of a ring to justify going into production.

This is common tactics for a lot of toy companies. This is selling 101. Maximize the profit-to-budget margin spent for a large mold, by being able to re-use it and sell it more than once. To help do that, they place limited or exclusive items along with them to help sell them. They know you may only want one or the other, but the hope is the exclusivity of the item its partnered with will drive you to purchase them both.
This is core retail profit boosting selling strategies that have been used for decades. Quite honestly its smart to do startegies like this if hoping to run a profitable company and answer to shareholders in quarterly updates. Its a business after all.
This is like complaining that Mattel should stop making retail specific exclusives because they are hard to get. Big box stores like Walmart pay higher wholesale premiums to have those exclusives in hopes of bringing more traffic to their aisles. This is a higher-than-average profit for Mattel, why on earth would they stop? And Its not Mattels fault that walmarts cant seem to distribute their own product in am effecient manner. Mattel just shipped them the product after they purchased. Yet every week or so theres a new thread to complain about it.
Basic business concepts are like reading a foreign language to half the members here.

Anyone who wants the perfect example of the insane lengths Mattel will go to maximize profits should remember that somehow, SOMEHOW, Mattel found a way to *reuse the Custody Battle Dominik mold*.
This isn't even out of the box thinking for them. As stated above, this is selling 101. People can complain all they want about how this isn't fair for collectors but, funny thing, no major market product company at ALL is in it for the consumer. This is the world of capitalism, as long as you are making money, it doesn't matter how unhappy the people are.

We know why Mattel does it; to milk as much money from the mold as possible. As a consumer, it sucks as I’ve purchased rings in the past and was told after the New Gen ring that Mattel wouldn’t pull stuff like this. From a business perspective, I also get it as it’s all about making money.
My biggest question is, why the hell a UE Bischoff when he just needs to stand there? Why not throw in a Scott Steiner or DDP in jeans as that seems like it would help the set sell more than Eric (yes, they had UEs planned in the crowdfund but they could have thrown in an elite version of one of them with this set).

difference being most of those were obtainable the only other way to get Bischoff is the non existent Ruthless Aggression figure They didn’t release another Goldberg figure for like two years. There may have been a basic updated Jinder but they didn’t do another elite for a while and that was in a hard to find Royal Rumble Target exclusive wave. everyone knew eventually there would be another Goldberg that looked the exact same plain figure the only one that was kind of different and actually worth picking up was the Ultimate, most probably don't care enough about jinder for a elite

Please don’t tempt me with jeans DDP brother. I wonder if Mattel has the rights to Billy Kidman?
