I'm mixed on this. On one hand, I don't collect basics at all so I'd have no interest. On the other hand, if they had packaging like that and committed to keeping one design throughout the run, those would look pretty great being displayed MOC.

Yes! For more obscure (like the upcoming Mr. Ts) or simple attires (WM Andre).

Gawd no. Mainline Basics are bad enough. No need to put something like that out in the market to make the field even worse than it presently is.

I only buy a few basics, usually of the guys I collect the most of, so I'm not sure I would need a line dedicated to legends for Basics. However, if they were to do it, your design on the right is what they need to use for the packaging. It looks great and goes nicely with the elite packaging. Personally, I would love if Mattel would put all Legends (non-current stars) in the elite Legends line packaging, even if they are in the main elite line. The current stars would go in the regular elite-style packaging, the older stars/legends/flashbacks would go in the legends-style packaging. One of my biggest gripes with Mattel is the lack of uniformity in their packaging. IMO, their best box shape was the one a few years back that was rectangular (I think it was used in the 60s and early 70s elite waves). It was compact and great for stacking. Though, the best design was the original legends line, but the packaging was a bit too bulky.

No because basics are trash, bar the headscans sometimes being decent.

Basics are trash, even with the new hips. Now, if they also return the arm and boot articulation (like the Hogan pictured) and we will talk.
I'll be getting the new Honky-tonk Tonk Man,but only to put his Elite jumper on the basic, then display the Elite in tights

I would rather see them stay as Elites, but I wouldn't be opposed to getting basics for extra heads, and the ball-jointed hips makes conversions to elites or ultimates a possibility.

I wouldn’t mind it. Hogan with the molded on shirt are some of the best Hogans in any line. And a lot of the Warriors don’t need to be elites or UE. They can pump out a bunch of 87-91ish looks.

First, let me say I know some of the names I mention down below are not currently signed, but I am sure at some point most of them will bounce back for merchandising - people like Savage, Flair, etc will have figures again down the line.
I think this would be an interesting way to handle their Legends figures. It could be a way to keep the big names - Hogan, Warrior, Savage, Andre, Flair, Austin, Rock, Undertaker - always available. Have one of the big names in a wave, every time, and maybe cycle it so these big names are out once a year. The rest of the wave would be mid-carders.
It would be a good way to keep some of the legends 'in play' and out there. The main thing would be to decide who are the top names (always there) and who are mid-carders, as that is subjective.
I think the 7 I named above would be the ones to use, and if they did 7 waves of these a year, that means one of each of these as a basic every year. Most of them have enough looks that they could switch them up each year. One year would be Hogan in red shirt with yellow Hulkamania written on it, the next year would be yellow with Hulk Rules on it, and so on.
With the mid-carders, we have plenty to choose from - basically anyone signed to a Legends deal. I would keep some of the 'bigger mid-card' names in rotation a bit more (thinking Iron Sheik, Dusty Rhodes, Bruno Sammartino, M$M, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero), while other Legends could be one-offs in the line - Samu, Fatu, Ken Shamrock, The Hurricane from recent Legends series comes to mind.
Honestly, if they did this line, and it was done in nice packaging like above, and the packaging STAYED THE SAME FROM START TO FINISH - I would pick up this line to keep MOC and probably display them on my wall. As basics, they would be cheap enough for me to keep MOC and display in that way.
For the way I collect, getting these and keeping them MOC, while having the Elites or Ultimates as openers to display would be great.
This would also give them opportunities to have a type of synergy with their waves. Having waves of 'themes' would be easy. One wave could be early 80's Hogan with other figures like Orndorff, Orton, Piper, and Albano, then maybe next year when they do the Hogan wave they could do Hollywood Hogan, Hall, Nash, Syxx, and the Giant. Then maybe the next year would be the 2000s era Hogan, along with Edge, Triple H, Kurt Angle, and Mr. McMahon. The same type of wave themes could be done with the other big names.
I think it would work, and be fairly successful. I would certainly get them.

I wouldn't mind, as long as critical attires don't get blown on the basic, like WM 5 Savage, or Basic 29 Ultimate Warrior.

If they made a new line of them - on Legends cards - then I'd definitely be down for it.

If it has plenty of first-time-in-the-liners and new headscans, then yes. If it's just guys who already have figures and the same headscans, no.

Would like this for suited figures. The Flair one was awesome. I’d happily take basics of Fuji, Jack Tunney, Gorilla Monsoon etc.

Yes, but only if it meant we'd actually get new legends. I don't need 10 waves of super obscure hogans and warriors. All those suited manager BAFs they keep putting out would work very well as Basics. I don't want to have to pay 60 dollars loose or buy four MOC figures for the one figure I actually want. Just give me a basic I can put on my shelf and have look nice.

This concept wouldn't be something new because we already had basic flashback series.
