I just finished cutting up a year’s worth of figure boxes/cardboard for making paper mache for building terrain/props for toy photography and tabletop gaming. I saved the plastic windows to be windows on spaceships made from other trash. Always recycle when you can. If you want a buried alive playset for basically free, you can make one with paper mache made from all your figure box cardboard.

I used to keep all the Elite boxes, just so when my collection went back into storage, they at least had a safe spot to be stored.
But more recently, i only keep certain boxes. Some Ultimate's, so i can use the side panels for display purposes, and the Brodie Lee & Negative 1 box for the back graphic on display.
Otherwise, i just separate the cardboard & plastic, then get rid of them in the waste/recycle accordingly.

If the Mattel boxes were like Jakks, I would open them instantly, these were ugly!

Maybe see if anyone else might want them and would pay to ship them but all the ones I open I throw the boxes away

I keep boxes for the Ultimates I open, but that's about it. Everything else goes right in the trash.

I've been keeping the boxes as I open figs, but I will probably stop doing that. The figures I really like I generally buy 2 of to keep one MoC so I don't really need a second empty box, and I've begun transitioning to storing the extra heads/hands/etc in a tackle box instead of leaving them in the plastic prison.
Ultimate boxes I will keep because they display nicely bookshelf style. And special boxes, like exclusives I will also keep.

I keep some of them. I keep all the Ultimate boxes as it’s so easy to put them back when not displaying them that way. Just makes it easier to store them .

My recycle bin after an unboxing video looks like an overflowing volcano of toy packaging. I say send it all to the recycle bin.

I used to way back in the early Mattel days, but space was an issue. Recently to be honest I really only did it with my Funko boxes mainly but I see no reason to keep them so recycling is where they go.
Not gonna lie though, as someone who collects the Classic Superstars line by Jakks, and those boxes as soon as you open them are ruined because the bubble rips the backing card, it's still a rush opening a figure as it was when I was 10 opening those up.

1. I photograph the boxes front and back. 2. I cut out the front and side photos for individual accessory bags that I file away. It makes finding extra heads, hands, etc. much quicker. 3. I keep the box backgrounds for display backdrops. The crowd backdrop used from E54-71 is the best. 4. I cut the infosheet from the back of the box and file it away. 5. I throw out what remains of the box.

I used to save boxes on all the RSC exclusives. Just found two tote bins upstairs that I totally forgot about, so to the recycling they go.

Only reason I would keep them is for figure swap or returns 💪👀 No bigger thrill in life than returning a new Elite 100 Andre with a BCA Truth Commission Jackyl. That’s what you get Wal-Mart for cancelling my RA Elites!

I kept the all the boxes from about about the first 15 elite sets but then space became an issue and I tossed them. I did cut out and save the first 7 Legends’ series cardbacks, which I am grateful I did now because the art work is amazing

nah, I'm so filled up with toys at this point that I simply cannot store empty boxes. In the trash they go! If I care that much about the packaging, I'll suck it up and buy a 2nd to keep MOC. I have ... occasionally.... cut pieces of cool boxes out to use as backdrops for my figure photos.... not often though. Here is a rare example of a box that I kept because I wanted to incorporate parts of it into a photo display.....
