(I have not found a thread on this topic here yet) I'm sure many of you have heard about or seen prototype figures for the new line from PowerTown Wrestling, which Series One will include Stan Hansen, Ted DiBiase, Greg Gagne, Kerry Von Erich, Lou Thesz & Magnum T.A. The prototypes look pretty good & should be in scale with WWE/AEW (I have no idea how to post pictures here after all these 15 years I've been going on here). Not sure what the price point will be? What are your opinions on this line? Are you all in or not interested?

Not interested in the wrestlers they have shown, but I’d like to support another company making elite-ish style bodies.

Now that we know they're to scale, I'm in for everyone they've shown so far. I can't say I'm "ALL IN" for any future announcements because I don't know who else they're making. If it keeps on this trajectory then yes, I'd be all in. If they start making some indie guys or free agents from the modern era then no thanks.
I'm just saying that because it seems to be a common theme to kind of pepper figures from different eras with these smaller companies but honestly, I don't care. As long as I don't have to commit to an entire wave or something where you make me buy Matt Cardona, Sandman and Tommy Dreamer (no offense to them or their fans) on top of the ones I want like Koko B Ware, Steve Regal and Baron Von Raschke, I'm good. I doubt they're going to do BAFs, anyway, so I don't see any kind of shady cross era forced purchase practice happening with this line.

I’m all for as many wrestling figures we can possibly get from all eras. The Major WF Pod ripped into these guys on their most recent episode and every single comment seemed completely justifiable. There is major doubt. First of all, crowd funding to start? MAJOR red flag. Secondly…signing 170 or so people before doing anything else? That sounds like nonsense even if it is true. Why the hell would you put so much time and resources into securing people before anything else? I mean that is a smart strategy to try and sneak around getting names before anyone else does…but it just doesn’t pass the sniff test.
There is also the fact that these deals are allegedly “exclusive” and that this company plans on producing much more besides action figures including comic books.
Oh, and let’s not forget they LOST THEIR DESIGNER…so figures after series 1 might look completely different.
Last but not least, they claim their prices will be competitive and that they expect to reach their funding goal within a single day. That’s a lot of bullsh|t in such a short amount of time.

They expect to reach their funding in one day? WTF? They don't even have 200 followers on Twitter. Zero chance of that happening (to be honest, I wouldn't expect them to reach their goal).

Re. Crowdfunding - it could be argued to some degree that pre-orders (especially with such a long turn around time: zst, super 7, chella, I think there’s others like the lucha maybe) or where very little to no funds have been used for R&D or production are crowd funding by a different name
Bigger companies - hasbro, mattel etc are not using the pre-order model for funding but to make sure they’re not sitting on unsold units etc. I’m not sure that’s always the case with other companies?

I'd have to see the prototypes for the first 6 before I shell out funds for the campaign. I like the first 6 picks well enough. Would have preferred people we haven't seen from Mattel yet but it's all good. Not only would I like these to scale properly with Mattel height-wise but also proportion-wise. I wasn't too stoked about the cartoony proportions from the renders. If every series/wave is a Kickstarter and we start seeing wrestlers I don't want like Blood Hunter, Colt Cabana and Joey Ryan crammed in there with wrestlers I do want like Jesse Ventura, Baron Von Raschke and Bruiser Brody, this is going to be a VERY tough sell for me.

I would prefer for this line to keep it mostly old school. Don't care how many unsold Blood Hunter figures Hannibal promises to buy.

I do t think these can be blended in with Mattel’s and imo that’s where they’re going to fall down The whole point of doing a 7” line imo is so it can blend in with Mattel’s, aew, super 7 etc but these have an almost awa / motu style leg on an elite body and that’s a mistake I think

I'm going to reserve judgement until I see prototypes (if it gets to that stage) but I do hope that those renders are not something they're committing to. I know that as toymakers, some of them get a little greedy and think "If we make these in a different scale, once they see how cool our figures are, they'll HAVE to our versions of guys Mattel and AEW already made so they can have them in THIS scale or weird body type." Nope. I don't get this mentality. It's similar with the DC Multiverse line when Todd McFarlane took over and he hast he rights to make 6" figures and 7" figures and opted to make them in 7" only. I certainly didn't buy any of them because they'd look out of scale with my existing collection. If I didn't have an existing collection, then sure.
I know not everyone will think the way that I do but as a collector, I'll sometimes buy 3 or 4 of the same guy just because of some minor costume difference but the figure has to scale well with the rest of my collection. I never think to myself, "Oh, this one is half an inch out of scale and looks funny with the rest of my collection so now I'd better buy more of them to balance it out." In the case of these figures, it's even more pointless to make them different from the Mattel figures because there's almost zero competition from Mattel by way of overlap. Mattel is unlikely to make Lou Thesz or Stan Hansen any time soon and pretty much never going to make Verne Gagne. Scaling them with a similar body type will be THE selling feature, IMO, whether they like to admit it or not. Seriously, how many people are begging them to make this NOT in scale with their current collection? "I won't buy it unless it looks like utter cartoony crap next to my Mattels and Jazwares."

Crowd funding will kill any chance these have, so sadly they won't be made.

You didn't mention that they left out the part of the article where Rosenthal mentioned they'd put the deposits down on containers, shored up the manufacturing and the supply chains. Per Magnum TA, the figures have been in development since June of last year. The Kickstarter in the spring, from what I've learned (and I have minimal information so do with this what you will) is basically going to act as a 'pre-sale' for series 1. What I was told, and it could end up not panning out, is that the goal will be on the lower end and it's being done to raise awareness for the line and going forward they'll be offering everything direct to consumer. If they are going with a lower goal? It could pass in the first day or two, but I'm kinda skeptical of that. Also, here's a link to the article for anyone who doesn't want to get their information while the Majors do performative scream-laughs between every line: wrestlingfigurenews.com/2022/04/03/power-town-wrestling-figures-to-be-in-scale-with-wwe-aew-figures-slated-to-be-in-collectors-hands-by-end-of-2022/Rosenthal and the people behind the line have put money down on these, so it's not the "Greg Gagne Fantasy Project" the MAjors are hyping it up as. I think you got roped in to the Majors' using their platform to bash something that Greg Gagne is involved with because he was in developmental as the same time as them and everyone who was there absolutely hated Greg. I don't exactly blame them, Greg comes across like a douchebag who's full of his own sh*t, but the Majors aren't going to give this any sort of level, unbiased coverage. Kyle Peterson put up a video recently talking about it and I thought he was much more even-handed with his thoughts on it.

It was never mentioned by me because I never heard them say anything about the status updates you listed. Yesterday I was doing a lot of work and listening to their podcast as I did it. I had no idea where the article or press release came from this time and wasn’t sure if it was worth the time given the case that was made. They often show strong bias but given my own skepticism, the information the Major guys presented didn’t sound too far fetched nor should it be above criticism. Their history with Greg is unknown to me and I didn’t really pick up on that when they were talking about this line specifically. That would require a second listen and they really aren’t worth that to me. Sounds like you know quite a bit about to hear relationship with Greg. Where did you learn all of that? I don’t listen to everything those guys produce so a lot falls through the cracks…and Greg is someone who I try not to pay to much attention to anyway. Love hearing AWA stories but even those seem to be plagued by half truths and large exaggerations.

I knew a few guys who were around OVW during the few month period that Greg worked as a booker and trainer and very, very few people have any good words to say about him. So in that regard, I understand why the Majors would clown on something he's involved with, but they were almost cartoonish with their criticism during the segment on this week's show.

Blood Hunter, Colt Cabana and Joey Ryan I'm not sure where you're getting those names from. I haven't seen them mentioned anywhere. I'm just giving examples of wrestlers who are from vastly different eras than the ones presented for wave 1. Although someone did mention earlier that Blood Hunter mentioned that he was getting a figure with them later on and I said I hope he was joking.
