Sad stuff tonight at the Oscars. I don’t know what to think. Smith has always presented himself as so clean-cut, but it came to this. I wonder how this will impact his career going forward, and how we look at his legacy in general.

It’s a publicity stunt if I’ve ever seen one. Ratings have been tanking for the last few years ever since they’ve all tried to outwoke each other (Wanda, I’m looking at you). Chris and Will would have been having a lol backstage afterwards.

If it was real, that was not the way to respond to it. He should've spoken to Chris later on away from the cameras if he had an issue. The joke wasn't even that bad for heaven's sake.

I think it's what happens when you have built up rage from years of public humiliation being cuckolded by your wife.

It is not so much the slap, but the way he dropped two F bombs after that makes me think it is real. Still, not the way to conduct yourself, pretty sad to see as I am a huge Will Smith fan. His wife has always seemed like a real piece of work, I have never been a fan of hers to be honest with you.

Absolutely no way this was staged, especially with the way Smith dropped 2 f bombs. It's a federal law that you can't say that on broadcast TV.
I don't see ABC, Smith, or Rock risking that.

I'm done with Will Smith. Can't imagine anyone ever acting like that in such a high profile situation. I'm biased because Chris Rock is not only my all time favorite comedian but one of my favorite people and Jada's alopecia or not (also she's been shaving her head on and off and had wild hairstyles for years and years, so I don't even buy that the joke was about that), they clearly take themselves way too seriously and it was embarrassing that he got up there and sobbed after his behavior, taking all the thunder away from the movie he won for and the people he was supposed to be telling a story about.
It seemed like it was more about his own machismo which is absolutely ridiculous too. I know he's had a very public marriage but he just made himself look weak as hell.
Even if he wanted to take the corny 'teachable moment' route he could have waited until his acceptance speech, called Chris out that way and said 'this is her condition and we shouldn't be making fun of it'. He chose instead to puff his chest and it was completely uncalled for. When you go overboard defending your woman based solely on your insecurities everyone notices it and nobody ever likes it.

Will was smiling as he hit Rock and as he was turning. Rock clenched his teeth and closed his eyes before getting hit. The slap may have connected, but that was definitely staged. Will Smith is just a really good actor.
Not as good as Cage was in Pig, but I digress.

The fact that a man assaulted someone, sat back down, watched the rest of the show, and then got “Best Actor” and was given a speech? Not to mention Chris Rock laughed it off and just continued to do his job? If it was legit, the aftermath wouldn’t have just went down like that I don’t believe. Plus Will laughing at the joke, then going on to smack Rock while smiling, and then getting real angry when he’s sat back down is just too weird. |

His wife certainly didn't. Will, being totally insecure, and out to prove something after everyone found out his wife has been cucking him for years got violent. He wasn't really angry at Rock, merely projecting his own anger at his failings as a man onto him. |
