I realize we are on a forum about staged fights but I just don't see what or who staging this benefits? At a time when no one cares about the Oscars, or celebrity award shows in general, whats the number one thing that everyone is talking about at the moment?

He laughed at the joke until he looked over at Jada.

People are talking about the Oscars probably more than ever. The fact that a man assaulted someone, sat back down, watched the rest of the show, and then got “Best Actor” and was given a speech? Not to mention Chris Rock laughed it off and just continued to do his job? If it was legit, the aftermath wouldn’t have just went down like that I don’t believe. Plus Will laughing at the joke, then going on to smack Rock while smiling, and then getting real angry when he’s sat back down is just too weird. Definitely lots of emotions going on but I think Warriah' is spot on in their response to this. I think Will just lost his cool...not sure how else a non-staged version of this would have gone? Security rushes the stage and tackles the Fresh Prince of Bel Air and all hell breaks loose? Chris Rock was pro enough to handle it and let it ride out, talk out of it and keep in mind that it's about more than just he and Will in that moment. He did the right thing and if it had been staged, no way they would have had Will drop the f-bombs. It just doesn't track. At a time when no one cares about the Oscars, or celebrity award shows in general, whats the number one thing that everyone is talking about at the moment? Something really off the cuff and out of line happened at a ceremony which has since its inception sold itself as the gold standard for all of motion picture and has had many gaffes in recent years but nothing quite like this. Sure no one cares about the Oscars from a celebrity worship/general sense as much as they used to after social media because it's way out of proportion and more accessible than ever before to worship a stranger but that's always been my issue with the complaints about the Oscars...it's not and never should be for those kinds of people. I went to school for film, I'm still a huge cinema buff and the Oscars for better or worse through their almost century of flaws have always served as kind of a film superbowl. As time goes on and people's tastes change, so do the thoughts about what people think something that is widely considered the most prestigious award you can receive for movies like the Oscars should be. So, to your point, everyone is talking about this, yes, but clearly they were trying tons of other things to get people talking aside from this like top 5 comic book movie lists or whatever and that stuff isn't just a nuisance, it failed miserably. This awards show isn't and shouldn't be the MTV Movie Awards and hopefully the failure of the attempts at getting viewers more excited over 'fan selections' coupled with the chaos of a guy who really had no business acting like he did other than celebrity privilege will send them a message to figure out some other way to handle the show in the future. Staging a conflict between two really well-liked guys provides hype but not a lot else. People are definitely looking to see Will Smith be taken down a peg it seems like overwhelmingly (by having to give his award back or be charged with assault or what have you) and I can agree with that because all the fuel is there for the idea that he just acted out and nothing more.

Kanye West already plotting how to take back his crown for award show interruptions.

The Academy is launching an investigation. I don't think they'd go through the trouble if this was staged.

I think the saddest aspect of this is the influence this incident can have on the way people view each other in life, the way it informs others in how to act in situations that arise in their life. It really has that far reaching impact on an already powder-keg society, it’s straight to everyone’s mobiles aged 10 up (most likely), it just negatively reinforces the way people think we should treat each other - particularly with the baseless justifications being trotted out for Will Smith, who should not have been allowed to go on stage afterwards. Every school around the world should be using this as a example of what not to do in similar situations and why escalating retaliation is never the option to take. It wasn’t physical self-defence. It’s scary how pervasive, toxic and dangerous this sort of incident is, that’s why it should never have happened and I can’t think it was at all staged as I expect that this would be known to them.
I like Chris Rock.. Kevin Hart does take way too much work from him.

Until some repercussions are faced, I’m not buying this for one second.
Both men are actors. You wanna tell me none of that scenario just seemed… odd? The smiling, the laughter, etc.

The Smiths are a walking joke. Chris went easy on her. Will made it all about him that night. True Narcissist. I recall a interview Jada had with Snoop Dog over songs that Snoop wrote/sang that hurt her (not song toward her, but words she doesn’t like). “You did this” “You said this” “This hurt me” Again true Narcissist.
So Will you’re “ok” with other men being with your wife but 1 soft joke pushed you over the edge? Please. Thin skinned lame.

I can understand why Smith was offended, but to actually get up and hit Rock like that - and then shout out the two f-bombs - was something else. I've heard some insiders say they're concerned about Smith's mental health - and after seeing his acceptance speech later on, it's not really hard to see why.
And I can't believe some people think this was all staged... apart from the bad publicity for all involved, what was there to gain from it? Will Smith - on what would have been the biggest night of his career - is now making all the wrong sort of headlines and some are calling for his Oscar to be taken off him and/or for him to be suspended indefinitely from future Academy Award shows. It also made the Academy look weak for not doing anything about the whole situation... they handled it terribly.

Lil Willy from Philly got into a fight? Does that mean he has to go live with his Aunty and Uncle in Bel-Air now?
I think Will's got serious emotional issues. He went from laughing, to assaulting someone, to screaming and swearing, to crying, all for a woman who has treated him like garbage. He's not thinking straight.

Very clearly not staged with no benefit to anyone.
Someone book them in the cage already.

Wicked Wisdom sucked anyway. The one thing I will say other than amazing meme, is I actually enjoy Wicked Wisdom. Funny though, the similarities to their cover art and the A Perfect Circle second album art are interesting....

if it was fake, the proper way of selling it would've been for will to be fuming as soon as the line gets dropped. instead he laughed, his wife judged his valor on that, and he was already sensitive from their previous marriage issues.
i'm pretty sure it was legit. the damage this is doing to will smith's perception at his age...why would he take that on? his career needed zero revival, he was just in a major film.

The SAG is talking about removing Will Smith from their union. There is absolutely no way this is fake.
