With what space I have to display my collection, I can’t setup my whole non wrestling collection. So that collection sits in its packages stored in plastic bins or in drawers. I still buy to eventually display all my stuff.

(A) Has anyone ever had to store your collection for a while and found that it caused you to lose interest in the hobby? I’ve been in this situation before & I’ve found that I lose interest in buying & collecting because I develop the mentality of “why buy it if I’m just going to pack it away” or “what’s the point of collecting if I don’t have a space for display” What say you wrestlingfigs? ====== (B) I just recently found out that my sister and her boyfriend and his 3 kids from 2 separate relationships are going to be moving into my house. My girlfriend's second cousin already lives with us. He's an animal guy and has a dog, 2 cats, a gerbil, 3 fish tanks containing 11 fish, and a miniature pig. Needless to say my household is pretty full and as a result I've had to put most of my collection into storage. Which brings me to my question....does anyone else here find themselves losing interest in collecting when everything has to be stored away in boxes?? .....I’ve been in this situation before & I’ve found that I lose interest in buying & collecting because I develop the mentality of “why buy it if I’m just going to pack it away” or “what’s the point of collecting if I don’t have a space for display” ======= Personally, I would have gone with (A) and filled in any blanks as needed. If I went with (B) I would certainly expect people to be asking questions or making comments. If you're going to flood a question with details don't be surprised if people start talking about those details. Good on you though. People need help and you're stepping up. I don't think I would have been as cordial. As for the question, I've never had to box anything away, but I absolutely can see how that would extinguish the flame. I live in a small condo with lots of book shelves in my living room. I'm always surrounded by toys and will often get an "itch to buy" while looking at them. If they weren't around for me to look at I would definitely lose interest. It's funny that way because I've seen people with coin collections that are inside little booklets and are in a drawer in the dining room. I collected baseball cards as a kid. I'd bet 97% of them were in sleeves in binders. With toys it's like they've got to be out there to see. If I had a really cool toy as a kid I wanted everyone to know I had it. Now I'm older and am happy to see the cool toy in my living room and know that I have it. Thank you for this! This shows that it CAN be done without mentioning personal information. Would have said this post wouldn’t be necessary IF the OP would have realized that maybe, just maybe he went a little too deep. But he doesn’t think he did and instead is scratching his head on why people are more focused on one thing rather than the other. If this thread shows anything, it’s that not everyone thinks the same and this is why we need to be careful what we share with strangers no matter how “safe” the place seems to be.

I would say pack it but don’t sell. Maybe have a shelf or something where you keep newer stuff and once it fills take the older off and pack them. That’s what I do but I haven’t even much been collecting lately. I’ve really lost interest but don’t think I would sell

I think most of us lose some interest every once in awhile or just get burnt out, for me it seems to come in waves every couple of years, but your passion for it almost always comes back at some point. When I first started collecting I lost interest after a year or so and made the mistake of selling everything. One of the biggest mistakes I ever made when it comes to collecting, and to this day I regret it. Especially for the prices I sold them all for because a lot of them are practically unobtainable now. Stash them away somewhere. If your passion for collecting doesn't come back within a year or so, then sell them. That's my advice anyway.

I was simply trying to provide the 411 to make my question make more sense, never realizing (at the time) that my personal business would just absolutely HAVE to be the hot topic....perhaps I did provide a bit too much detail but I can promise you this much....it will NEVER happen again!!

I find it odd that on a toy collecting forum people would rather discuss not collecting and being sarcastic all the time, instead of actually sharing their stuff. Which makes me believe more than most people don’t display either. They spend $20, and put the thing in a bag in a tote. Cool addiction…I mean collection….

I’ve only just started recollecting Mattel’s within the last few months and I’m bored already. The latest Kane has just killed my motivation dead. It’s not a terrible fig per se but it’s just so disappointing. The paint apps are dreadful, the little details are dreadful. I recently got the green suited M$M and it blows most basics out the water. Whoever is designing the basics now needs talking to. The articulation doesn’t bother me, laziness and not caring just pisses me off. They are doing an awful job.

Form 1099-K threshold is changing. You go over $600 you might get a visit from someone: I know I know "But you should be reporting all income no matter how much you are making, even if it's less than the current $20,000 threshold!"

Right on brotha! Just for the record, regardless of what anyone says, these sacrifices that you're making in life defines who you are as a person. Your family I'm sure are grateful and will always appreciate what you've done. Keep your collection and continue buying your "must haves", because you never know what the future will bring.
