OP’s providing context, not asking for bad advice on a situation a bunch of internet strangers have nothing to do with. Like, how do you have the unfiltered ego to read some strangers post and be like “yeah OP could definitely use my super intelligent and nuanced opinion on the subject of his personal life which is not at all relevant to the question they’re asking”. Bizarre takes and reasoning in this thread.

LOL, WF Financial Advice
A+ to Hulk Hogan guy starting the sh*t storm, and a gold star to the mortgage specialist chiming in with "if you have four people paying bills you can buy a bigger house!"

I don't mean to get into your personal business but I would not worry about collecting at this point considering all the free loaders your gf is bringing into your house. How many people are you expected to support including her son's girlfriend of all people. I would be proud of my collection and start dropping some strong hints about other people getting a job. brutal....honest...but brutal That’s not “honest” or “brutal” at all, it’s misinformed and inappropriate. Grow up.

I like the guy who thinks that since OP mentioned his personal life it’s now everyones business and he should be mad at himself. How does somebodies brain work like that? & yeah the mortgage guy is hilarious, especially considering what’s going on with housing right now.

LOL just apply for a mortgage with your fiancé, her son, his girlfriend, and yourself on the loan application. That's totally a thing people do.

If you and the OP seriously think that the internet is a safezone to post personal stuff and not get negative/positive comments, then prepare to be surprised on a day-to-day basis. I could care less about the OP's personal business and I didn't say anything negative about it. It's the fact that people think it's blasphemy that others decided to comment on it. Makes me think to myself "How does somebody's* brain work like that?"

Start with a shrine! When it happens to me that these figures (or any figures in general for that matter) feel overwhelming or like they're everywhere, I at the very least condense the display I want to have out. So, pick some of your ABSOLUTE favorites - be it figures or characters - and limit how many you're going to have out. Then if you start to inventory the ones you have in your bins, you can mix and match until you have something you're happy with and slowly expand from there if you want more on display. Good luck!

I'm losing interest in collecting in general, but that's another topic for another day.
I'd suggest finding some place where you can have a small display. Garage maybe? Rotate the display as needed to showcase incoming additions, old favorites, whatever makes you happy. I can definitely see losing some interest when you can't have your collection out on display. But if you still enjoy them, I'd definitely give it some time to see how you feel and how the situation could evolve. It's very possible the older child could move out, the younger could be off to college in a few years, etc. So your display may be back in business before you know it.

It’s a hard one
On one hand do you want to collect just to put in tubs not knowing what the future holds
Then do you want to spend money now for fear of missing out or having to pay crazy prices in the future like you mentioned?
Not knowing finances (and frankly it’s not our business) it’s hard to really give advice what to do. What I would say is be careful of the fomo because that can creep in
I lost interest when my eldest did because a big part of the fun for me was going in fig hunts together so now I only really look out for bret hart stuff since he’s the goat and I pass everything else

Of course! Who wants to spend $20 at a time just to take something out of a box and put it in another box? When you display them, at least they are providing you value after you buy them. The only advantage to continue buying them when you aren't currently displaying them is the hope that you will display them again in the future and it will be amazing. I'm kind of in that situation now. I have room to display about 60-70 figures but I have over 500 different characters (that's not even including different versions of characters or different outfits) so I have boxes and boxes full of figures in the closet just sitting there and getting squished. One day I'll have an epic display but who knows when that will be. You made an excellent point there about still buying them to maybe display in the future.....the last time I was in this situation I just stopped collecting altogether but I also made a few horrible mistakes by selling some of the figures I had in storage, then one day BOOM I had another space for display & I realized right then, when I had to pay outrageous prices to get back the Moc figures that I had sold just a year or so earlier, KEEP EVERYTHING ....major lesson learned there so if what I have now goes into storage they’ll stay there until they’re covered by the sands of time before I sell anything again Yeah I took 3 years off or so and I regret it to this day. That's the reason I don't have those Damn Von Erich Figures!!!! Not to mention I missed out on a bunch of figures that are upgrades from my Jakks figures like Kevin Nash, Paul Bearer, The Rockers and Rikishi The tough part about taking a break from Mattel is their figures go way up in cost if you try to work your way backwards. Not saying you should keep collecting if you really don't enjoy it, there are obviously more important things in life. But Just be sure because it is a pain to try to catch back up.

I have five 200 quart tubs full of loose wrestling figures (maybe 10 MOC) that I've been collecting since 1985 LJN. When I buy a figure, I take it out of its box and place it in a tub. When I met my wife 10 years ago, I had them displayed in my apartment. After we moved in together, they were put in the tubs. I think after years of debate, I will be able to buy a bookshelf to display some of them. It just sucks not to be able to enjoy them. I still have the itch to buy figures so I may as well display them. It's funny, my wife bought me a display shelf for my wrestling figures one day for Christmas or something because she knew that I love my collection and never get to display them. I put the shelf together and saw that it fit like 50-60 figures. I don't have the heart to tell her that it only fits like 5% of my collection lol. So I just display 50-60 at a time and rotate different themes every once in a while. She has seen a couple of the storage boxes but I still don't think she understands the overwhelming size of my collection. Probably best she doesn't though....

You could show them an elite 34 Hulk Hogan and see if a bidding war breaks out. And if you need any help moving your figs out I know someone who has a truck driving uncle.

I like all the people that probably will never have serious relationships or children or probably even sex telling a guy that toys should come first.
I collect loose and have everything on display. I could definitely see how having everything stored up would kill the desire to add to a collection or even keep it. At the end of the day, family definitely comes first so you are doing the right thing. Hopefully you’re able to keep the hobby going, but if not I’m sure you’ll still be fulfilled.

Makes me think to myself "How does somebody's* brain work like that?"As fans of pro wrestling, you’d think we’d all learn to be a little bit better to one another online after the passing of Hana Kimura. Nobodies asking for any safe space, they’re asking you not to be needlessly rude to one another. When seeing folks make ill-informed comments about OP’s family being a bunch of freeloaders, I think it’s wrong to sit there and just say it’s the internet bro free game. That’s why I ask how someone’s brain can work like that, it should be our job as adults to make these better places and call out folks who are out of line rather than just cosigning with the paltry status quo. Also that roundabout “ “gotcha” you tried to pull doesn’t even make sense. You’re just trying to be condescending.

That’s not “honest” or “brutal” at all, it’s misinformed and inappropriate. Grow up. Sure It literally is. Do you know OP’s family and their conditions. Do you know if anyone faces any conditions that prohibit them from finding high paying work? Or if they live in an area with absurdly high housing costs and stagnant wages? No you don’t. So how are you going to agree with any of that nonsense when you’re ill-informed. There’s a person on the other end that has to read that garbage that you’re agreeing with, and it had a demonstrably negative effect on them. Am I making sense? I’m just gonna leave it here. OP I empathize with your situation. Personally I don’t have a lot of real estate either for display. Really it’s just finding space around the books on my bookshelf and on my desk. I like the idea someone brought up about building a shrine. Finding an amount of figures able to display in whatever space is available and rotating them out for new ones when you want a new look. Best of luck mate.

If you plan on downsizing, I would try to hang on to the pieces that are not going to get any cheaper, like RSC or other VHTF stuff you may have. They will cost a fortune to replace later. Of course, hang on to your most favorites and try to find somewhere to stash them for the time being.

If you've got four grown people paying bills, you should be able to get a house with more than three bedrooms. Ok people ....this is a WRESTLING FIGURE FORUM ....SO why exactly have some of you decided to make this about my personal business instead of the question at hand??? ....If I wanted to discuss my personal life I’d write to dear Abby Probably because you brought up a dilemma entirely caused by your personal business? When I eventually have kids can they stay with you too so I have more room to display my figs? I'll even let you display your figs at my place. Buy more toys or raise another man's kids... WHY NOT BOTH WITH 'SAVE WITH CONRAD!!!'
