The current scalping epidemic in every figure line has generally killed my interest in this hobby, along with any huge collection I ever own getting thrown into bins.
I really only collect Ultimate Edition Attitude Era figs at the moment, so just enough to fit into one detolf nice and spaciously.

I'm assuming the OP's name is Jim and your his friend??? Your words, "I like the guy who thinks that since OP mentioned his personal life it’s now everyone's* business and he should be mad at himself"..... priceless. If you and the OP seriously think that the internet is a safezone to post personal stuff and not get negative/positive comments, then prepare to be surprised on a day-to-day basis. I could care less about the OP's personal business and I didn't say anything negative about it. It's the fact that people think it's blasphemy that others decided to comment on it. Makes me think to myself "How does somebody's* brain work like that?"As fans of pro wrestling, you’d think we’d all learn to be a little bit better to one another online after the passing of Hana Kimura. Nobodies asking for any safe space, they’re asking you not to be needlessly rude to one another. When seeing folks make ill-informed comments about OP’s family being a bunch of freeloaders, I think it’s wrong to sit there and just say it’s the internet bro free game. That’s why I ask how someone’s brain can work like that, it should be our job as adults to make these better places and call out folks who are out of line rather than just cosigning with the paltry status quo. Also that roundabout “ “gotcha” you tried to pull doesn’t even make sense. You’re just trying to be condescending. Zzzz

This place really is something else at times.
Anyway, I OP I can relate to where your coming from. I've been toting up figures since last July as my wife and I have been in a long process of finding a place and etc. It's definitely cooled my interest a bit and there are figures I'm pretty sure I would have gotten had I had display up. (Though I have still been buying a decent amount of stuff). We're finally moving sometime in August/September, and I will have an office/collection room, so that will likely re-up my interest again.

I’d give it 6 months and still see if you feel the same. If you do set up a table at a local toy show in your area and sell them that way. You have real collectors buying there. Just easier than the eBay hassle. Plus who knows maybe being at a show will rekindle your interest and you won’t want to sell much after all.

I get what you mean. I knew I wouldn't have anywhere to store my collection and while I was collecting in the back of my mind I was thinking "you know in a year these are all going to be stored in a box and out in a loft" but I kept going with the collection anyway.

This might go down in history with some of the other great threads if it doesn't get locked.
Anyway, just to briefly diverge back to the main topic, I've had a live-in gf for the past 4 years. She was fine with my loose display, but she's getting tired of seeing them. I told her once we get a large enough place where I get my own space she'll never have to see them again, but that in the meantime there's no point in even having them if they can't be displayed. She grudgingly agreed to leaving them up. Nevertheless, I would have put them away if she had really pushed back. I know it's not the same thing, but sometimes concessions have to be made either by priority or to keep the peace.
If I never saw them I definitely would lose interest in collecting...moreso if I had to pull out a bin immediately after making a purchase.
Now back to our regularly scheduled fighting and trolling.

I seriously can’t believe how off the rails this post has become. Unbelievable.
To the original question, my collection has been packed up for several years. I stopped collecting until 2018, and from that point, everything I’ve purchased has gone into totes and bins. I knew one day I would be able to display my collection. I just wasn’t sure when it would be. I’m now in a position where my basement is nearly refinished and the collection can come out soon. If there’s even a small chance you will display everything again, I would keep your collection. I’m going back and trying to cherry pick random Mattel’s from 7-8 years ago and it’s very pricey.
I commend you for what you are doing. Family comes first. It’s easier to say no than it is to step up and help people out.

I don't know how people keep that many figures in boxes/package to be honest. The amount of space they take up is astronomical, at least when it comes to regular released elites etc.
If you're having space issues you could probably fit ALL those MOC's, loose in one nice bookcase, i have a handful of figs put away because i dont have the room and sometimes i question even doing that because if you're not looking at what you're buying whats the point of even having it?
i can justify FOMO for a few things but thats about it.
in the end, if you have the space to store them...do it, because you dont know what your situation is going to be in the next few years. dont want to have to go back and chase down figures you sold because you were out of space. if it got to a point of years and you dont see anything changing, then it'd be time to move on, keep only what really has value to you personally and sell the rest.

I think part of the reason things like this go off the rail is we have become this victim society. Everyone wants to be a victim. You used an incorrect term by saying girlfriend, instead of fiance, which lead to some of this. You got into way more detail than we needed for your question to be answered. Are you sure you didn't get what you wanted here, the chance to be outraged? When you put that much detail out, people are going to comment, and they can. You can say they are immature or whatever else you said, but they can respond. Someone else could argue there's an immaturity to not realizing the consequences.
That said, I think it's awesome you are helping family. I admire your sacrafice. You have the means, keep collecting. I have way more things collected than I could ever display. I do love opening those totes now and then. I almost enjoy that more than walking past the same walking dead or nakamura figures in the room for those that rule. I hate saying cheesy names like man cave. Keep collecting, at one point they move out or you all get a bigger place. Your a good dude, too many details derail any story. I hope you don't detail fill the stories to your buddies.

(A) Has anyone ever had to store your collection for a while and found that it caused you to lose interest in the hobby? I’ve been in this situation before & I’ve found that I lose interest in buying & collecting because I develop the mentality of “why buy it if I’m just going to pack it away” or “what’s the point of collecting if I don’t have a space for display”
What say you wrestlingfigs?
======
(B) I just recently found out that my sister and her boyfriend and his 3 kids from 2 separate relationships are going to be moving into my house. My girlfriend's second cousin already lives with us. He's an animal guy and has a dog, 2 cats, a gerbil, 3 fish tanks containing 11 fish, and a miniature pig. Needless to say my household is pretty full and as a result I've had to put most of my collection into storage.
Which brings me to my question....does anyone else here find themselves losing interest in collecting when everything has to be stored away in boxes?? .....I’ve been in this situation before & I’ve found that I lose interest in buying & collecting because I develop the mentality of “why buy it if I’m just going to pack it away” or “what’s the point of collecting if I don’t have a space for display”
=======
Personally, I would have gone with (A) and filled in any blanks as needed. If I went with (B) I would certainly expect people to be asking questions or making comments. If you're going to flood a question with details don't be surprised if people start talking about those details. Good on you though. People need help and you're stepping up. I don't think I would have been as cordial.
As for the question, I've never had to box anything away, but I absolutely can see how that would extinguish the flame. I live in a small condo with lots of book shelves in my living room. I'm always surrounded by toys and will often get an "itch to buy" while looking at them. If they weren't around for me to look at I would definitely lose interest.
It's funny that way because I've seen people with coin collections that are inside little booklets and are in a drawer in the dining room. I collected baseball cards as a kid. I'd bet 97% of them were in sleeves in binders. With toys it's like they've got to be out there to see. If I had a really cool toy as a kid I wanted everyone to know I had it. Now I'm older and am happy to see the cool toy in my living room and know that I have it.

I had to pack up my collection for a few months in order to sell our house & move. I still acquired a couple newly released figures but wasn’t hunting for any older figures or buying a lot. If you have a passion to collect then go for it. If you are losing interest plus no room prob should hit the brakes until you have more room.
At our new house I’ve got an entire guest room with all my wrestling figures etc.
