As many of us here have some form of streaming service to watch (Netflix and Tubi for me), I figured we should discuss this rise and problems herein.
When there were just a couple of them, they were usually a conglomerate of programming from many places, kind of a cheaper cable, but now, every network seems to have their own service, at the same costs, with only their programming. Aren't they defeating the whole cord cutting, cost issue? To put together the correct packages to view these exclusive streams, doesn't cable/satellite provide more of a mishmash for the dollar?
I see the exclusive shows as reasons to purchase a service, but that stands a tough reason to pay more than a month or two and unsubscribe, re-upping in the new season, if you can even budget for it in the first place. Times are rough for many of us. Aren't many things going to miss the audience that would enjoy them, or even help, if they are behind so many different paywalls?
Free TV, antenna tv, still exists for the "big" networks and shows, but to rewatch them fairly soon after airing, they are throwing them behind a paywall too.
Is this system going to cannibalize itself? If so, where do we end up? DVD's, and renting, aren't as prevalent either, to make available specific exclusive shows at a "catch-up" price.
It seems we are being more exclusive with each other, instead of inclusive, which is what, for me, tv had been for my whole life. Music isn't far behind this either.
I apologize if this thread is tl;dr for some, just wanted my thoughts out on paper, and to have a lively discussion with the great wfigs crew.

There's a lot, and there's only going to be more.
Currently I'm a paid subscriber for:
Hulu Live Shudder Netflix Amazon HBO Max New Japan World NBA League Pass
I also use YouTube and Tubi for free.
Things have become crazy hard to find and are getting really expensive. At the end of the month I'm cutting NJPW and HBO, but that only saves me like $25.

I think that is what they are all trying to stop. It seems to be each company wants their own, but the inital reasoning of all this was to move away from cable prices with a mix of content, which doesn't seem to happen anymore.

They're raking in dat $ while portraying themselves like the "good guys", joining in the struggles of "valued customer" marks in combating the "big, bad, evil" cable and satellite providers.
Same old crap. Point the finger at each other for skyrocketing costs while the plebs get bled dry for the privilege of utilizing their services.

I have never spent a penny subscribing to crap like Netflix, CBS All Access, Facebook Watch, etc and I never will Me neither, I wonder how these people leave the house with all that junk to watch. Id rather spend my time reading or being creative with hobbies and interests rather than have my brain fried sitting watching tv all the time.

Let alone all the amazing HBO proper shows. Anyway, based off of what you listed check out Close Enough. It's from the guy who made Regular Show and it's so much fun to watch.

I agree, but it has meant the quality of shows has gone up. Think about all the competition for your attention.
We have access to: Prime, Disney +, Crave (Canadian stuff plus HBO and more), Apple TV, and sports, so there's never not something to watch especially since we're home so much more. That being said, paying for all those would be ridiculous and wouldn't be nearly as cheap as a cable plan.

I mean it is possible to multi task as well as doing other things. I sub to Hulu Live, Netflix, Amazon Prime (ok its more for Prime but still), WWE Network and Disney Plus (among other "Free" channels on Roku....I also paint/customize toys, read at night, go out to eat 3 nights a week among other things. Just cause you have something doesnt mean you dedicate your entire life to it.

I've been doing some thinking over how many streaming platforms there are and their cost. Amazon Prime is the most expensive one per year. If you add all of the monthly services up at a time it would cost you the same as your cable or satellite bill.

I have Netflix Disney + WWE Network HBO Max Amazon Prime AMC + Help a friend with the cost of his NFL package
I've cancelled Hulu and CBS All Access within the last couple months. Didn't watch either one enough to justify keep paying.
I'm happy with everything I have but i probably won't add anything else for a while(unless the Suns have a huge season). The sad thing is even with cable and all the extras I pay for I still find myself a lot of time just watching The Simpsons,South Park or The Office instead of searching to find anything else on.

This was always, always, always going to happen and on one hand it's great to have options but on the other hand, it's part of the reason I still have a small DVD/BluRay collection of rarities/favorites.
The death of cable tv always seemed like a good thing to me but the real tough part is there's just SO MUCH. Stuff. Too much. It's insanely overwhelming. Movies, shows, books, on and on and on, in addition to anything else you could possibly want to do with yourself. But that's aside from the issue of subscriptions I guess.
I currently pay for Netflix with DVDs, Hulu, Amazon Prime, MLB and my gf pays for Disney+. I let some family use my Hulu login and some let me use HBOMax and it pretty much ends there. So, I have options but at this point, Disney+, MLB and Hulu are really my only current 100% needs as I'm not a big TV series guy other than Simpsons which is maybe my biggest necessity to have available. Netflix is really just kind of grandfathered in as the first one we all had so I could for sure cancel it (though their DVD library really is the most extensive I can think of).
I do dread thinking about how much money I've spent on some services I don't regularly use. Maybe it all has evened out with the other services I use with family logins? Hopefully? Gah!

Not sure if you're the same way, but sometimes it's so hard to cycle through shows and know if they're actually good or not. You end up staying to some of the classics because you know you'll enjoy those classics. Analysis paralysis.

Yep that or I don't wanna start a new show because I don't have the time to dedicate to it then months go bye and I never get around to watching it.

AT&T TV Now (for traditional channels) Netflix Hulu Disney Plus ESPN Plus (got it in the package deal) WWE Network HBO MAX (Free with our AT&T Wireless plan)
Totally worth it. We watch something on everything.

I subscribe to a few different services... but never more than 1 at a time. I'll get Netflix for a month, watch some stuff, catch up on new seasons of my shows, then cancel. Then I'll get a month of Amazon Prime. I had WWE Network for a month at some point last year. I'll do Disney Plus when they get a few more shows I'm interested in so I can cram them all into 30 days. I can't imagine having any of these services all year around. There isn't that much on them to be worth that kind of money.
Probably would have had a different attitude were I still a single man. Then I watched a lot more TV... but I also had cheaper ways to watch things.
