Too old to enjoy a hobby? Nahhhhh. My papa played golf into his 80’s, no matter how much my gran told him to stop as the walking was to tiring for him he kept going. It was his hobby, why would you stop something you love?
I take the same view of collecting. I love it, have collected all my life and honestly think I’ll collect figures till I’m dead.
Same as being a football fan. I’ve watched and played all my life and I’ll watch when Cristiano Ronaldo’s son is starting for Real Madrid in 15 years 😭
Age is a number, who says when’s too old to collect.

I've been asking myself this recently -- even though a lot of people I know like them. I only have a few -- but for the MOC ones in my closet, I question how much I need.
I think if you look at them a lot -- or just enjoy them when you look at them -- then don't listen to anyone

LOL, well, what do you like more? Half naked men toys, or a fully naked real girlfriend? There has to be compromise. Display then in the garage, if you have one. Or humor her and take them down and put them in a bin and look at them when you feel like you want to. Yeah, and to the ones who are like "get a different girlfriend!?!?!", well, they don't have a girl in their lives so it's easy for them to say that. Does it suck that she makes these comments? Yes. Does she really mean them? yes. Does she want you do put them away? Yes. Will she eventually leave if you don't? A big YES. Do what you have to do to make her happy or you'll be the one she laughs and makes fun of with her new boyfriend after they spend the night together. Not sorry to be blunt. Yes do anything including sacrificing who you are and what you love, bend over backwards and do everything she tells you to do just to get laid. Good speech. Could just find someone who actually loves you for who you are. Your rant makes you sound desperate. LOL, desperate for what? It's all good little dude, I'm sure you bring in SO much tail!!! |

This is really, really bad advice. I can't stress enough how much you should NOT follow any of this. Never give up the things that make you happy because someone else wants you to. Life is very short. Spend it doing the things that make you happy, and there are ALWAYS other potential partners out there who won't want to change you. I've been in that situation, and it sucks. Now I have an awesome girlfriend who finds me stuff for my collection. Don't lose track of who you are and what makes you happy. My advice should be one the bottom of Snapple bottle caps. I am that amazing. |

Ok, communication is the key to any good relationship.
You should talk to her. Ask her if they are truly bothering her or if she's just frustrated. She may or may not give you a straight answer, as a woman, I can confirm we are sometimes very stubborn about letting our true feelings out. But if she tells you she is in fact bothered by them, as her why. And, in return, tell her why they bring you joy and explain the points you've made here.
If she still is unwilling to support you, I'd recommend re-evaluating your relationship. Because I'm telling you now, it's the small things now. The figures are just the start. If she doesn't support you in your hobbies now, try to imagine how she may or may not support you down the line in joint decisions, possibly if you get married. A lack of support or worse, discouragement of personal pursuits early on in a relationship is a HUGE red flag and can lead to far worse behaviors later on.
Seriously, communicate. Don't let anyone bully you out of something harmless that brings you joy. Like you said, there are far worse things you could be doing with that figure money.

Sounds like your girlfriend was busting your chops. Making fun of each other here and there is usually fun and healthy in a relationship.
There is no “too old”. No one is going to send the police after you for collecting after the age limit. Just collect as long as you enjoy it.

Just turned 41 myself and going strong on collecting. Having to cut back due to space and just overall costs but still going. Don't let anyone else tell you what you should like or shouldn't like. Do what makes you happy brother. If the woman doesn't get it no worries many wouldn't but if she starts putting you down or forcing you to sell you may need to reconsider who you are with. No one should try to change who you are and what you like or condemn you for it.

I often wonder as well. I've gone through several collections over the last few years, because I buy them and they generally just go into a bin. What's the point right? Then I end up selling the lot.
Inevitably I end up starting a new line...

Steve Mc Queen was a toy collecter all his life, if use don't know who he is was, was in a film called the great eccape , it's on the telly every Christmas in the uk.    I remember watching this Movie all the time as a kid. Any time i think of it, this image is the first thing that comes to mind. It was always my favourite part for some reason.  |

I'm 20 and still collect. I just try not to let rude comments get to me. If it makes us happy, it makes us happy and like you said, there are worse things we could put our money into like drugs and alcohol.

I never let someone dictate how to live my life. If it makes you happy then continue to do it. There are guys who collect Barbie and hot wheels and are way older. Everyone needs some kind of vice from the world and something they enjoy doing. If it’s collecting something or doing something, there’s no set age. Girls will always try to put a guy down for having a hobby or collecting something but will have 3 closets full of clothes with tags on them.
