Tell that woman that she is getting too old, period. Demoralize her for everything she enjoys. Make ignorant comments about things or causes that are important to her.

Of course you're not too old. I believe that everyone should have something in their life that they are passionate about. Unfortunately, these days not a lot of people do. That being said, I'm 35 and my gf is 31, she knew about my hobby from the start and was/is totally fine with it. She even helps me look for new elite series' and hard to find figures, too. Her father is also an avid collector, too, and he's in his 60's. You should see his wall. Everything you've ever known about wrestling is on that wall from figures to old luchboxes to posters and books and about 80 moc figures. He even has a belt that Ric Flair gave him hanging on his wall next to a picture of him with Flair holding the belt (it's an old school WCW Television Title from the 80s). One of the coolest things I've ever seen. My point is that he will still collect in his 90s if he makes it there, and I'm only 10 years behind you and will still be collecting when I'm 45 for sure. Don't get discouraged and don't stop collecting. There's some good advice on here from some really good people. Listen to them.

I guess I am truly lucky. Not only does my wife approve of my collecting but she hunts for me when I can't. She will be out shopping with our daughter and call me or text me to ask if I have/want/need a certain figure. She is the absolute best.

You're too old when you care what other people think of you

I get the occasional comment from my other half even though she's 99% supportive and doesn't seem to mind. Just yesterday she said it makes her happy when we go shopping and I find stuff I like or was looking for (I bought a couple Mega Construx figures at Dollar General). Personally I think the comments are normal, just like any others when we're frustrated with something else and take it out on our partners. I don't care if she naps everyday (she doesn't), but sometimes I'll say she takes naps too often after work because I gotta say something, right? I think the "shame" comes from the way we've been conditioned to think. Toys are for children, as far as society is concerned, and adults should spend their money on iPhones or tools or golf clubs or televisions (all acceptable but just as unnecessary or excessive and even sillier to me). I question my collecting, too, but not because of perceptions or attitudes. It's more like a philosophical, have no worldly possessions thing. But then I think of the joy it brings me and that I'd question anything I was spending money on, remind myself it's my hobby, and then I feel fine with it.

No age is too old to collect figures, but any age is too old to be doing figure swaps and treating store employees like $#!+ which is really what is making the hobby look bad.

I am approaching 42 years old and I still happily collect. My wife is quite nice about my collection especially given that my collection is in our living room. I have around 60 loose figures and few MOC. I buy between 3-5 figures a year so I try to be selective. I say keep it under control and don't sacrifice your budget or go into credit debt. Keep it fun and enjoy yourself!

The only correct answer is "when you don't enjoy it anymore."
You'll find an absolute ton of toy collectors well into their 70s and above.

Listen a hobby is just that, a hobby. There's no age limit and if it makes you as happy at 12 than it makes you at 90, then why stop for someone else? I think it's awesome that people at the ages of 20, 45, 60 are collecting so much still. I say collect more if it makes you genuinely happy, plus it doesn't seem like its an unbearable amount of figures to have anyways for her to warrant those comments. I would just say to give her that same type of reaction for whatever she is passionate about honestly. I have been fortunate enough that my girlfriend actually collects her own figures now because of me. Don't stop your hobby!

the world has evolved since "the 40 year old virgin" came out which basically said anyone over 40 who collected toys was a "loser"
nostalgia is fueling collecting, most of the world of collecting is people in their 30's now who grew up with toys, had their moms throw them out or sell them, has fond memories of playing with action figures, etc. and now is an adult with a job that gives them the capability of buying their own shit.
i love my damn wrestling figure collection, its massive and takes up a ton of room, but its a cool part of my life. im 37 and been collecting toys basically all my life. nothing wrong with that. and if someone cant understand that, its on them. if you're not struggling to put food on the table because you're buying wrestling figures, you're good.

I was pissed back then when they made the guy a toy collector in that movie and now, there is an action figure boom. Go figure.

Well really, asking on a forum full of collectors is going to get you the response you are probably looking to get. We aren't exactly impartial here.

LOL, well, what do you like more? Half naked men toys, or a fully naked real girlfriend? There has to be compromise. Display then in the garage, if you have one. Or humor her and take them down and put them in a bin and look at them when you feel like you want to. Yeah, and to the ones who are like "get a different girlfriend!?!?!", well, they don't have a girl in their lives so it's easy for them to say that.
Does it suck that she makes these comments? Yes. Does she really mean them? yes. Does she want you do put them away? Yes. Will she eventually leave if you don't? A big YES. Do what you have to do to make her happy or you'll be the one she laughs and makes fun of with her new boyfriend after they spend the night together.
Not sorry to be blunt.
