WWE will be taking over wrestlers twitch accounts in 4 weeks and taking a cut of the revenue. If this is true and WWE is using those accounts to count towards their downside, I don’t see how anyone could defend this. Super scummy. |

So if they are forcing everyone to sign new contracts, does that mean that the current contracts are voided? Would be awesome if most if not all told them to shove it and walked.
Now they forcing them to twitch and crapnow? Or no pay, suspensions, or other penalties? What a crock of shit.

Talent are making money off of these platforms because they're able to stand out from the thousands/millions of other streams/channels. And they stand out because they're WWE guys. Real names. Fake names. Doesn't matter. Their WWE fame is making them money. If I was Vince, I'd have shut down all of these side-hustles on Day One. It's ridiculous to allow public-facing representitives of your company just do whatever they want, openly blabbing about the company to the customers, or just representing themselves as pan-handlers/worse words online. A true megastar shouldn't need to supplement their income, after all. But you need to pay for that level of control. They need to be employees. You can't exert the correct control without paying for it. |

I still think there's some fine print somewhere in this. I completely understand Vince not wanting them to profit off their WWE names, makes 100% complete sense....but unless you've signed your legal name over as IP in your contract, I dont see how Vince/WWE can control that.

I get both sides and I think their is a win win here
I get Wwe disliking guys profiting off their characters etc and wanting a piece of the pie
I get not liking someone like Lana going on there and talking about sex.
I get the wrestlers not liking this becomes part of their downside and Wwe controlling their content.
There is definitely a medium here to both sides. You take out the downside part, and Wwe takes a percentage but also promotes leading to more followers and more money. I feel like there is a solution that benefits everyone and I hope they work it out.

Calling the talent independent contractors while exerting that much control is crazy and should be stopped. I just dont think the happy ending here is for talent to be free to do whatever they want. I think Vince is smart to want control/money, but needs to be forced to make the wrestlers full employees with the requisite benefits in order to do so. |
