We covered one of Boss Man's big rivals why not cover the other one? Coming soon on the Gimmick Retrospective... Pretty insensitive to pick on Nailz. The poor guy goes into a store to buy his mom some flowers on Mother's Day and unknowingly gets a parking ticket that blew away in the wind. His incarceration tops any "greatest wrestling tragedies" list in my book.

I was always confused as a kid about why the Quebecers weren't called the Mounties...I remember when we used to be talking WWF I often made the mistake of calling them the Mounties...LOL. On a side note? I thought the Quebecers were a great tag team...Id love to have some figures of them. Well according to their theme tune “we’re not the mountie’s”! I actually preferred the Quebecer name though. The Mountie, as entertaining as he was, was pretty much a jobber. A good bit of rebranding by Vince and Co. Did the Quebecers have shock sticks at any point? I can’t remember them ever having them.

Nailz
It was right after WM VIII on WWF TV that we saw vignettes of a jail cell with a voice over saying he was coming for the Boss Man presumably for the torment he had to go through at his hands. That day would come in May on Superstars after Big Boss Man put away some poor ham n egger in quick fashion in which after a man in an orange prison suit would come from the crowd and lay rest to the Cobb County Native. I remember thinking at the time how brutal the attack was considering at this time WWF was PG. It was a very well done debut that made Nailz look like a killer right out of the gate. Vince and Mr. Perfect put it over strong on commentary which just added to it.
This attack would lead to the Boss Man being (kayfabe) injured which he would be on the shelf for all of the Summer that year. Nailz's first big match came at SSlam 92 against Virgil. Virgil vowed to get revenge for his friend but in the end the ex con made short work of the former bodyguard. After SSlam Nailz would mainly be used in squash matches until the big confrontation with the Big Boss Man at that years SSeries.
The build to this match was well done but the match itself? Not so much. It was a ''nightstick on a pole'' match in which the 1st guy to retrieve the stick gets to use it. Terrible match here with the nightstick only being used a handful of times. Boss Man would get the win and his revenge to end the feud. Was this the end of Nailz? Not quite as soon after this they teased a feud between a feud with Nailz and the Undertaker. The tease actually started prior to SSeries when both guys had a staredown on Superstars. This feud never got off the ground however as in real life Nailz choked out Vince backstage over money which lead to his quick departure from the company.
Back in those days WWF taped shows way in advance so we would see Nailz twice more after SSeries, a squash on Superstars and a podium interview in which he discussed his feud with Undertaker which like I said never got off the ground. We even got a WWF magazine cover promoting the feud!
Overall I actually didn't mind the Nailz character looking back. He had a memorable debut and an intimidating look that made him stand out. His in ring work well that's another story. It was obvious the character didn't have much shelf life after the Boss Man feud but man a feud with Taker really intrigued me. Shame it never materialized.
What are your memories/thoughts of Nailz? Share them below!

I would've liked Undertaker to bury him and we never see him again.

His punch/kick style was in keeping with the character. It wouldn’t make sense for a convict to be hitting suplex’s and figure fours.
I agree that his debut was memorable and quite brutal for a PG rating.
But as with all character wrestlers, shelf life is limited. Even a feud with the Undertaker would have been a stretch. Maybe if he’d been introduced with a manager, who had recruited him for the purposes of destroying wrestlers or capturing gold he may have stayed relevant for longer (hey, wippleman could have used Nailz instead of Giant Gonzales).
But after his feud with Boss Man (which he lost), it seemed pretty pointless having him around. If he couldn’t exact revenge against someone he held a grudge against, did he really stand a chance against the Taker.

His debut is definitely up there with me as far as memorable debuts go. Just well done all around. I like how they dubbed in him screaming ''How does it feel Boss Man!'' in that voice they gave em.
After the Boss Man feud the gimmick was on life support for sure but a Taker feud would've been unique I thought for the build alone. After that yeah he would've pretty much been done.

I forgot to mention he resurfaced in WCW in May of 93 as the ''Prisoner''. He fought Sting at Slamboree that year and was never seen again.
Unless you count his brief run in the AWF promotion of the mid 90s as ''Nails''. Same gimmick but he just used his real voice instead of the distorted voice WWF gave em.

Yeah, the debut was pretty good. I remember they showed Boss Man's injuries in one of the WWF magazines, he was all bruised and taped up. Really sold the brutality of Nailz. Probably wasn't a good idea for him to lose to the Boss Man if they were thinking of putting him in a feud with the Undertaker. Who would think that Nailz could beat the Undertaker if he couldn't beat Boss Man. Though, I wonder if Taker would have preferred a feud with Nailz over Giant Gonzales - Prichard says that every time he sees Undertaker that he never lets him forget that he put him in a feud with Giant Gonzales. Apparently, Taker was not a fan of that feud.

Perfect was gold here being the instigator.
And yeah I can totally understand Taker still holding a grudge over that feud. Awful.

This was Sarge's last hurrah in the WWF wrestler wise as after this they made em an agent for a little bit.
Despite how the character ended, They really did put effort in making em look strong with his attack on Boss Man and squashing Sarge.

Nailz was good for the one and done with Bossman. Thankfully the Taker feud did hold up. Nailz had a decent look and I agree that his debut was well done. But once he lost the "nightstick" match, there wasn't anywhere else he could go besides jobbing. And the guy was huge but also clumsy.

Whatever you think about Nailz, he is one of few people who got to beat the $#!+ out of Vince McMahon in real life, something many wrestlers at one point wanted to do but never actually did.
