ESPN's Jayson Stark just said on Baseball tonight that the prospects Boston is giving up is not 100% confimred.
If Boston gets Eric Gange then there bull pen is pretty damn lights out.

Williams better make an effort to get Rowand back in the off seasonm and get rid of that waste of money in Erstad.

I feel somewhat disappointed that so far the Yankees have not gotten bull pen help. Good thing about the Proctor trade is that Proctor's arm is about to fall off and will probably be replaced by Joba so that is a plus. Yankees need to deal Farnsworth for at least a decent middle reliever.

Yeah, I was getting Murphy mixed up with some other outfielder in Boston's system.
That is a good deal then, but I just find it laughable how the Rangers were trying to absolutely rape the Yankees in their talks about Gagne. They wanted Melky or Ian Kennedy for Gagne...

Dotel to the Braves **** ESPN Buster Onley reports the Rangers wanted Ian Kennedy or Melky Cabrera for Gange. Man why not deal Melky? Why would we deal our starting centerfielder for a guy who's only going to be here 2 months anyway? Maybe if Damon wasn't a cripple the deal would have been more reasonable, but we have no other option for CF right now outside of Melky. Still, though, when you consider what the Rangers wanted from the Yankees and what they got from the Red Sox, it's just ridiculous.

Melky is nothing special.
If Bernie Williams signed that Minor league deal he would be up on the main roster and Cashamn could have traded Melky. A Melky Cabrera is not hard to come by.

Keep fooling yourself by stating Melky Cabrera is "nothing special"... you forget, he is turning 23 years old in 2 weeks, he isn't some guy like Shane Spencer who has been knocking around in the minors for a decade. He needs to develop more power to become a true asset in the American League... I can see him being a 12-17 home run guy when he fully develops. He has decent speed, he is a terrific defensive outfielder from all three OF spots, he has a rocket arm, and has proven to be a very tough out at the plate. He doesn't strike out much, and hits for a very respectable average.
Not to mention whenever a Yankees trade possibility comes up, everyone seems to want Melky Cabrera... yet he remains "nothing special"... I think when he is fully developed, he will be a special player. He has proven he belongs in the major leagues.

ESPN is reporting that Engel Beltre would be included in an Eric Gagne deal with the Rangers, giving Texas three players.
Kason Gabbard and David Murphy are believed to be the other two. This makes the trade look a whole lot better for Texas. Beltre is just 17 and is even further away than Elvis Andrus and Neftali Feliz, but he was one of the top international players available in the 2006 signing period. He ended up taking a $600,000 bonus from Boston.

The Padres have agreed to acquire Rob Mackowiak from the White Sox for a minor leaguer, according to ESPN's Jayson Stark.
Another bench bat for San Diego. Mackowiak will take Russell Branyan's role as a backup at third base and in left field. He's also an emergency option at second.

If Bernie Williams was playing CF for one inning for the Yankees(unless it was in the old timers game) this season, I would have shot myself in the face by now.

He is far from a special player, he will be a solid OF in the majors. He is like Youkilis on the Sox because hes cheap and gets the job done, but hes not the most amazing prospect in the world and hes not untouchable.
Young left handed pitching is more important than Melky Cabrera, no GM would argue that.

The Padres have acquired Morgan Ensberg from the Astros, ESPN's Buster Olney reports.

Bernie put up decent numbers last season. When Giambi comes back up, he will probably be the DH and Damon will play center field again. Bernie would be sitting on the bench just like last seaosn plus he had clutch hits.

I think when he is fully developed, he will be a special player. He has proven he belongs in the major leagues. Exactly. The reason Melky is so coveted after is because he's going to be a fantastic player for the next several years. I laugh at all the guys who piss all over him like he's a 4th outfielder, specifically Steve Phillips. Melky has proven this year that he IS a starting outfielder. Great speed, above-average arm, solid contact hitter, decent power...what else can you ask for? Why do you think the Yankees were willing to part with Johnny Damon over Melky? Demanding Ian Kenney and Melky, PLUS MORE, is not nearly the same thing as Murphy and Gabbard for Gagne. The Rangers basically bent over and let Boston have their way with them in the Gagne deal.
