Bad trades > fire sale.
atleast the astros are trying to do something without moving core pieces like Pence and Berkman.

But it appears as if White Sox GM Kenny Williams has taken Garland off the market. And after Garland, the best starter available is Kyle Lohse of the Cincinnati Reds.

oh i was on vacation at the time, someone just told me and i figured it was relatiely new oh and alyssa milano, as a big a dodger fan as she is, said on TV recently she's done dating baseball players.carl pavano = my favorite human being ever Very true, she's dating me. We go to games all the times. I'll be at the Giants/Dodgers game Tuesday. Hopefully Bonds trips on the steps and breaks something(and not the record). ; Youre Russell Martin?

Apparently Tim Kurkjian is reporting that a deal between the Nats and Reds could get done by the deadline tomorrow involving Chad Cordero and Jon Rauch to Cincinnati in exchange for Adam Dunn.

ken rosenthal says salty to texas and teixeria to atlanta is a done deal pending medical reviews.
The Braves will receive Teixeira and left-handed reliever Ron Mahay.
The Rangers will receive catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Class A shortstop Elvis Andrus and two pitching prospects.
One of the prospects is believed to be Class AA left-hander Matt Harrison.

According to Rosenthal, the trade is done:
Teixeira and Mahay for Salty, Andrus, Harrison, and one other pitching prospect.

Nice trade for both sides... if the Braves can lock Teixeira up long term, it will be a very solid move.

Well, I can't complain too much. Salty's value is as a catcher, and with Hoops in the way, there's no room for him. Tex is a great player, and I do hope we can get an extension for him. Otherwise, why unload these prospects to get him. I hate that we had to give up Andrus too, but I will say this. VERY rarely do any prospects or young players traded by the Braves go on to amount to anything worthwhile. Klesko and Jermaine Dye are probably the only exceptions.

Good deal for both sides, but if Atlanta can lock up Teixeira, I think they definitely got the better end.

The Red Sox are still working on getting Jermaine Dye from the White Sox for Wily Mo Pena and a pitching prospect.
The prospect wouldn't by Clay Buchholz or Jon Lester, leaving Michael Bowden and Justin Masterson as the top possibilities, unless the White Sox really like Craig Hansen. A source told the Boston Globe that the chances of a deal happening were "pretty good."

texas would be looking really good right now, had they not screwed the pooch and traded adrian gonzalez(along with chris young, no less) for otsuka and peanuts.
atlanta really did a good job here, if they lock teixeira up. its not often you can get a 26 year old, switch hitting, strong defensive player with unbelievable offensive prowess at the trading deadline. gave up two damn good prospects(Andrus is boom-or-bust, but the "boom" is the hype of being the next great dominican shortstop), but it will be worth it for Atlanta if they sign him long term.

The last time Atlanta traded for a good 1st baseman, we won the world series! ;D

so, atlanta adds an elite bat and the mets have been going after upper-tier starting pitching for the past month or so... lets see if "stand pat" pat gillick decides to make a move for the phillies before the deadline.
