I don't mind seeing a good scrap now and then. But it's probably the one thing about hockey that I couldn't care less about.

There are also rumors circulating that the Rangers will sign Sheldon Souray, but first need to clear cap space by trading someone. Names that have been mentioned are Malik, Mara, and Cullen. The general feeling is that the reason they re-signed Strudwick so early was for an insurance policy incase they can move Malik or Mara.
No real updates on Henrik yet...some reports I've read have said that the Rangers also want to clear some cap space to work out a long-term deal with him, but there's really no update. The other possiblity that I can see happening is that the Rangers take Henrik to arbitration and then finalize a long-term deal in January 2008 when more cap space opens up. Either way, I think it looks more and more likely that a long-term deal will be reached...it's not a matter of "if," but "when."

I read on another site that the Hurricanes took Cam Ward to arbitration a few years back, as did the Sabres with Ryan Miller. Can anyone confirm if this is true? 'Cause if it is, then I'm not nearly as worried about the Lundqvist situation as I was.

I think Fights are needed when your star players gets a nasty hit or not..
But other than that, Fights are POINTLESS.

I don't think fights are pointless...it's one thing when you have goons who are just jerkoffs and looking to get into fights for no reason at all like Chris Simon, Brashear, Bertuzzi, etc., but in cases of guys like Avery, I think he brings that intimidation and energy that all teams need. Every team needs a guy like that to get under their opponents' skin and play with that passion and emotion to protect their teammates. That bond that hockey players have is really what separates the game from everything else, to me at least.
Also, take into consideration that the top stars in the NHL now get really physical on their own. Despite being elite scorers, Crosby and Ovechkin are able to lay a mean hit on you, which is what makes an even greater need to have that enforcer on your team to keep guys in check.

Awesome, the Rangers are looking really good for next year. There's still rumblings of a big Vancouver trade, i can already feel it.

Under the terms of the deal, it was agreed that the Rangers and Henrik would revisit contract talks in January. Also, there's a rumor that they already have agreed to an extension and are just waiting until January to exercise it because of the cap space. Either way, great news.

Avery's date for his arbitration hearing is July 30. If the Rangers can't agree to a new deal by then, it's expected that Avery will be granted around $2 - $3 million, which the Rangers can afford.
That means that as of now, Marcel Hossa is the odd man out. I think that Sather will still move someone, though, to free up more cap space. I'm banking on him trying to get Malik out of NY in a package deal with a prospect since no teams would just take him on their own.
The thought is that next offseason, the Rangers will not be active buyers in the open market since we'll have most of what we need from this offseason. Other than maybe adding a defenseman and a forward, their top priorities will be to re-sign Straka, Lundqvist, and then possibly Roszival and Shanny depending on the years they have. They'll also pick up Jagr's option, most likely.

I'm going to do all I can to make this trip happen. I've always wanted to visit the hockey Hall of Fame...what better time to do it than when one of my favorite hockey players of all time is being inducted?

Only reason I like Malik lol That day was incredible at the Garden. The Knicks had an afternoon game at the Garden when they won in triple-OT at the buzzer, and then the Rangers night game was capped off by that in what was (and I think still is) the longest shootout in the NHL.
