He may just be approaching it with the notion that Al Montoya is in the system and is projected to be a better goaltender than Lundqvist. Lundqvist is fantastic, he is my favorite goaltender in the league right now, however... maybe that moron Sather sees something more in Montoya and doesn't want to commit to Lundqvist long term.
I think its dumb. You know what you have in Lundqvist right now. He's proven he is elite. Why not just sign him up...
Its frustrating when a team will spend money on free agents, but get cheap when it comes to signing their own home grown guys.

Montoya isn't projected to be anything that great. He's basically still around as a trade chip...his biggest knock is that he's not able to stay healthy and falls apart quickly if he has a bad game. I just can't imagine them letting Lundqvist go. I'm willing to trade away anyone on the ing roster to open space to signing Hank to a long-term deal. All I know is, if the Rangers screw this up and Sather lets Henrik walk away, the fans are going to crucify him. Lundqvist is the first goalie since Richter that this team can actually depend on. You can go out and get guys to assemble your forward/ defense lines...when you have a goalie like Lundqvist who can play in New York under the spotlight, you don't let him go. I'm just assuming that Sather is working on clearing up cap space and will sign Henrik long-term before they go to arbitration. Malik, Mara, and Cullen have been rumored to be dealt to free up cap space. I would honestly be astonished if Lundqvist were to hit the open market and become an UFA.

I dig the Drake signing. We replace Bertuzzi's grit, add some energy, and we do it at 3.5 mil less then what Bertuzzi got. Kenny is a genius.
Cap space is left open for the trade deadline, and we've got tons of space to work with next year as far as resigning Zetterberg goes.

When they drafted Montoya, he was supposed to be their "goalie of the future." Then again, so was Dan Blackburn, who was honestly one of the most terrible goaltenders I've ever had the luxury of watching. Having a breakaway against that guy was an automatic goal. Lundqvist kinda came out of nowhere. I don't like the "future" thing... if you have something good, and young- go with it. Lundqvist is the most popular player on that team by far... just lock him up for a fair price, and go with him. He's the first solid goaltender that the Rangers have had since Mike Richter... they should think long and hard about that before lowballing the guy, and leaving a bad taste in his mouth

I just refuse to believe that Sather would let Henrik get away. The man has made some dumbass moves, but letting go of Henrik would be by far his dumbest move yet.
He knows how important Hank is to this team and the fans and letting him go would just be an absolute disaster. My assumption is that he wouldn't have signed Gomez and Drury before re-signing Lundqvist if he didn't have some sort of a plan worked out. There are a few guys on the team right now who are trade bait...honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if the Rangers deal someone for more cap room to negotiate with Lundqvist, Shanny, Avery, and Hossa.

Is Mara a stay-at home defenseman at all?

I was at the game when Colton Orr knocked Fedoruk the out. That was probably the craziest fight I've ever witnessed at a live hockey game before.

I don't know why I thought it was much longer than that when I was there live. Oh, well. I'm glad Fedoruk is fine now...but Colton Orr rocks.

He didn't really get rocked in that fight, but 'tever...
It'll be interesting to see who Renney gives more playing time to this season: Hollweg or Orr? He clearly favored Orr in the postseason, so we'll see what happens. I think having both of them in the lineup would be a waste, personally. The only time I'd like to see both of them in the lineup is when we're playing physical teams like Philly, NJ, etc.

I think Hollweg should be traded since hes small, doesnt know how to fight and is a joke compared to most players that are 6'2 and up. Orr knows how to stick up for himself, and can score sometimes( he played in like 50 games and had 2 goals,1 assist and 126 PIM. Hollweg played in 78 games, had 1 goal and 2 assist with 131 PIM. I would have Orr in the lineup.

Yeah. rangers fans always drool over hollweg because of his physicality and energy, but in my opinion he was just a goon. I honestly could do without hollweg, i'd much rather see Orr any day of the week. If you don't play hollweg you can plug in guys like Immonen, Dubinsky, and other young guys who I'd like to see in the line up.

I don't think Sather would be dumb enough to give up Lundqvist. He is young and fantastic. They should really trade Montoya at this point. Valiquette is fine for now as a backup. I'd rather have them get something good for Montoya as opposed to him just being a backup. I'd trade anyone on the roster to keep Lundqvist. I'd sign him to like a 7-year deal.

actually, it draws attention from people that dont watch the sport. plus, if your star player(ex. Crosby) gets checked and gets hurt, how else are you gonna get that person/team back?
