Agree completely, great article, but I think we'll wake up to news Cano is a Mariner. You don't fly your entire representation out there just to "talk." Well Jay was in Anaheim for a concert....easy for him to get there. But I think you may be right about him going there.

Cano's gotta do what he's gotta do, but it's just going to be a real shame if he wastes the rest of his career in Seattle going through the motions for the money on an awful team. In a Division with the A's, Rangers and Angels,..Seattle is going nowhere fast.

The Mariners are hardly as bad of a team as Yankees fans make them out to be. I call sour grapes. Their division may just be the toughest in baseball but if you add someone like Cano...while one player cannot make a team a WS contender, a great player can make a team a hell of a lot better. And for the Mariners it will do just that. Those Angels you mentioned? I do not care about injuries or anything of the sort they still finished only 7 games ahead of the Mariners. That is nothing. I think Seattle will benefit much from him.

And for the Mariners it will do just that. See, that's the thing about Robinson Cano. How motivated is he going to be on a second to last place team during an attempt at resurgence? Robinson Cano was a lazy, unmotivated space cadet in NY who never hustled, hot dogged, and you never see him lay out or make diving plays like a guy like Dustin Pedroia....and this was on the YANKEES. You get put him on Seattle and he's not going to try at all. So hypothetically, yeah, getting a player of Cano's talents is a step in the right direction for a team like Seattle if he gave you what he's capable of....but Robinson Cano is lazy and unmotivated and being in last place will just cause him to give up and try even less.

Also, the Mariners have a horrific track record of developing top prospects. In theory, they should be loaded in a few years but...eh. Their track record is pretty bad.

It all comes down to how much Cano wants to actually try. The Pirates sucked so bad for so long, but you bring in guys like Liriano, Burnett and Byrd...the rest of the team starts to want to play better, and a team that had been the laughing stock of professional sports since before I was even born wound up falling a game shy of a pennant series in a division with two very good teams who both also made the playoffs this season. I mean, having the MVP of the league on your team does not hurt, but Cutch just happens to be a very good ball player who has motivational powers. It is a wait and see thing.

Seattle was under the impression that 9/225 would get it done but Jay Z demanded 10/252 and Seattle said no.

9 225 was already highway robbery. They should be glad he didn't take it.

Posturing by Cano, I bet he goes back to the Yankees with an increased demand and he gets it...or they say no and he signs with the Mariners on Monday.
Hopefully this is over soon

Ken Rosenthal just said the talks are back on with the Mariners. If its posturing to use the Mariners as leverage, then good work. If he wants to go to the Mariners, then just sign ing already.

The funny thing is that The Yankee contract was actually more per year. Also Curtis Granderson signed 4 yrs with the Mets. He's a good ball player. Should do well with them.

I'm going to head to Seattle real quick while they are still giving away money. I figure my job ought to pay about 2.5 million a year there.

Sucks now, but 7 years from now Yankees fans will be delighted he didn't re-sign. Good luck to him.

I get that the guy is a perennial MVP candidate, but they're way overpaying him. I think both of them will regret signing that contract in 2-3 years.

Sucks now, but 7 years from now Yankees fans will be delighted he didn't re-sign. Good luck to him. Bingo. At first when Cano stepped into Second for Soriano, I didnt think he had a chance to fill the shoes but he's developed into one of the better players in baseball. However, 6-10 years down the road is a 37-40 year old 2B worth $24mil a year? Me dont think so
