Also, the argument the Yankees keep loading themselves with these albatross contracts is a moot point because those contracts never, ever keep them from spending when they have the money. You can argue if that strategy is wise but it's never really prevented them from getting a player they need/want to acquire. Agree completely. Bad contracts hurt and even kill other teams, but not the Yankees. Sent from my ADR6350 using proboards

Sent from my ADR6350 using proboards I think a lot of people point to their "non-moves" in the past free agency yet they forget that: -They tried to trade for Cliff Lee -They attempted to sign Cliff Lee, who took less money to be with the Phillies -They signed Rafael Soriano -They re-signed CC Sabathia to a large contract And from 2009-2013, they've made the ALCS three times and won a World Series.

So Morneau signed with the Rockies.
...the Pirates had better sell their souls to sign Loney because so help me God if Sanchez is our opening day starter I may sic a dog on Neil for it.

Yay! Another 36 year old signed by Ruin Tomorrow Jr. There's a reason this is making rounds.

I just read Yankees are close to signing 2B Kelly Johnson. Could this be the end of Cano. I wouldn't be shocked if he signed with Boston.

I think Cano ends up with the Mariners. They seem to be the only team willing to offer him at least a good portion of the ridiculous contract he wants. Seattle was my surprise pick team last season and while they fell apart, despite Lozo insisting that because of their division they have no chance, I would like to mention that the Angels still are choke artists and the Rangers missed the playoffs. So what if they added Fielder? Seattle has one of those teams that can surprise a lot of people. And while that contract is absurd, he will at least be prime for a few seasons of it.

Who says Cano has to play 2B. They can put him at the hot corner or even SS. I'm pretty sure Cano played some SS in the minors.

nice little article on ESPN on how if Cano takes $200 from Seattle he's nothing but greedy. Yanks offer 7/$175....and all the benefits of being closer to home. Seattle is a LONG way for his family.
I could see the Yankees going up a little more than $175, maybe even matching $200 if it came down to it. But overpaying for Cano is going to hurt any team.

I think Cano's going to the Mariners because I believe they will absolutely blow him away with a deal. I've heard a rumor they're about to make a vey "panic" move that's enough to get any GM fired. Something tells me they'll really make an offer Cano can't refuse.

Cano's on a plane to Seattle and he's probably going to sign a 10 year, $230M-$240M contract with the Mariners.
Wow. Huge blow to NYY but I would never match that if I were them imo.

Yay! Another 36 year old signed by Ruin Tomorrow Jr. This team is screwed for years to come. The good news is, perhaps we can finally complete the trend since Amaro took over after '08.... '09: WS - Lost '10: NLCS '11: NLDS '12: Missed Playoffs, .500 record '13: Finished below .500 '14: Finish in last place?

I love the edition of Kelley Johnson. I hope they can make that trade with Oak for Anderson

They were saying that Seattle ownership wasn't going to give the GM that kind of money to make a $200M+ offer for him.

Mariners offer does not exceed $200M. Source: Ken Rosenthal and it's posted on MLBTR.

I want Cano to leave because it makes the Yankees weaker, BUT I wont believe it until I see it.

Mariners offer does not exceed $200M. Source: Ken Rosenthal and it's posted on MLBTR. The entire Rojas was report was the Mariners were WILLING to offer Cano $240M. My guess is that's why Cano's in Seattle right now. Probably has the Yankees final offer and is telling the Mariners to match, which they probably will. Obviously I hope Rojas' report is bullcrapbut it hasn't been contradicted yet. We'll know tonight what's the deal.

Heyman and David Waldstein (very reliable) say Mariners intend on offering Cano 9/$225, Cano maybe "disenchanted" with NYY.
Meanwhile, a Mariner radio guy said Assitant Gm. texted him that a deal could be done by morning.

9/225 gets it done. Hell, it gets it done for ANYONE ANYWHERE.
