...to make a bigger ring than the ones still at retail?
I understand we're not getting another RSR but clearly the rings being produced now are far too small for the size of Mattel figs. Can they just add another couple inches and charge $30 instead of $20? It's just frustrating as all these other rings are just terrible.
Rant over, happy holidays hope you all got what you wanted:)

Maybe they'll try it at some point. But I think their sales figures probably suggest that the number of people who want to buy bigger, more expensive rings is smaller than the number of people it would take for bigger, more expensive rings to be profitable.

The way I understand it, it needs to be functional, cost efficient, and at a price point retailers and customers both agree on. It's been said a few times that anything over about the 25$ mark scares people and things don't sell well. See the DM figures for example.
I don't play with my figures so it's not an issue for me, honestly. While I do agree that they should be in scale with their own figures, it is what it is. I'd much rather them put time, effort, and money into the figures themselves instead of a ring.

I don't play either but am a loose collector and it would be a great place to pose them if it looked better. They just look so out of scale and horrible in that ring.

"Basic" rings are God Awful. I dont know why Mattel acts like these rings costs and arm and a leg to make. generic dollar store rings are nearly the same size and same materials but cost half the price. Mattel probably sells a ring for $25-$30 but only has $5 max in the ring.

They're $20 at most stores. So bump up to $30 and let's get something good.

I laugh at basic rings. I want a smaller Elite Scale Ring!

I laugh at basic rings. I want a smaller Elite Scale Ring!Having one in my household, I'd say a small one is definitely overdue especially with collectors who look for those inexpensive lifelike scale rings.

Id like to see something comparable to the old JAKKS Hardcore ring with some accessory packs. Make the ring a little bigger with some more detail (rubber turnbuckle pads w/ logo, not hard plastic pads w/ stickers for logos) and release some accessory packs (like the Hardcore Ring had sets with various ring skirts, pads, posts, etc.). They can even release some accessories with figures. Like how they have build afigure or build a set series, the can release series where one figure comes witgh turnbuckles, one figure has a ring skirt and ropes, etc.

Honestly I'm one of those people who never got a ESR and I regret it to this day, I don't play with my figures either but like the people above mentioned it's still nice to have a propper ring to display the few loose figures you've got. I'd just want one to put on my desk near my pc as a statue'esque thing...
Anyway, I used to have the old WCW arena set and that ring was pretty big compared to the WWE rings right now... why don't they just do something like that? I mean... I understand that ESR was too expensive to make... but there was SO MUCH detail going in to that ring aswell.. you can do it a lot simpeler but still make it bigger and in in the propper scale..
Why does the ring mat have to be cloth? Why does every turnbuckle need to be? You can just make plastic Turnbuckles, plastic base/sides and just make it "21 or whatever would be the appropriate scale.
But still I hope they'll reconsider making another ESR...

As a loose collector I'm behind this 100%. The springloaded mat sucks for display.

I'm stuck still using my Jakks ring from freaking 1998 !! Mattels ring is way to small. And sadly I missed out on the Elite Scale Ring. Mattel really needs a good ring. If they don't realize the basic ring is crap then they should sell the liscense.

Jakks used a slightly bigger ring in their Cell playset (not sure where else). That ring is 14.5" sq. Quite a difference compared to Mattel's 12" Basic ring. If Mattel used that sized ring for their exclusives, I would have bought them.

I think Mattel stated that once something fails at retail, the "bosses" don't want to release anything similiar to it at retail. I think our only hope is once TRU has released every playset possible (Elimination Chamber, Hell in a Cell, ETC.) and run out of ideas, maybe a TRU exclusive smaller ESR would be a nice set to make as an exclusive.

I just made my own ring. Not very hard to do.
All it takes is a bit of creativity, some cardboard, shoestrings, bamboo sticks, and a lot of tape.
I use mine in my animations so its prooven to hold up well.
Its 16x16 inches. Definitely not as big as the Real Scale Ring but it is far better than the crapmattel puts on the shelves! plus I can put whatever ringskirts around it that I want.
I do agree wholehearedly with the OP though. if you cannot fit 2 normal sized figures lying down head-to-foot (impact of a suplex)than its just too damn small.

The basic rings are the one true eyesore of the mattel line. All the effort and quality put into the figures, the attention to detail and scale, and then you get a ring that looks like fisher-price made it. Terrible.Luckily I got an ESR before they were too outrageous, I love it, though it is huge for alot of purposes. An 18x18 or even 16x16 ring should be worked on to try again at retail with something of better quality, that could maybe at least get a cage accesssory made for it.

What are you guys talking about?? A smaller ESR? If it's smaller it isn't an ESR anymore and it still isn't in scale.
The small rings look ridiculous to me so I don't buy them, but I do have an ESR and WMII RSR from Jakks. They're big, but they're great for posing. I don't think a "middle ground" size will appease most people. The price point will be too high for some, the scale will be too small for others, and at this point, I'm not looking to downgrade from the real thing (neither will most ESR owners). So I won't buy it either. I'm sorry, but I just don't think it's a good business move, but if Mattel disagrees then more power to them! I just don't see a big enough market for it.
