Pretty excited to see how the prision story arc is going to play out. Definitely my favorite during the comics. do you guys think they will amputate Rick's hand on the show? I sure hope so. I'm also curious if there going to introduce the prisoners, or Tyrone for that matter. I'm also wondering if their going to kill Lori and the baby.

I think the hand thing would be a good way to end the mid-season finale. You know, CHOP-cut to black.
And, if you watch the newest 60 second trailer for the third season, Rick says something like, "If I see you near any of our people!" I'm pretty sure they're introducing at least one of the prisoners. It'd be cool to guy the "tax fraud" guy, but I don't know how that'd work. I really wanna see Axle though.

You know what I can't wait for?
The inevitable bitching from the casual fan about there, "not being enough zombies" this season. When I try to explain the point of the show and the comic being centered on the survivors, they'll tell me, "well I watch it for the zombies," and THEN I'll tell them that, "they did an interview before the premier with Glenn Mazarra and he said that the zombies would still be a threat, just in the background. This season is more about the evil and threat of other surviving people."
Then they'll tell me that it's stupid. Blah blah blah. Zombies blah, more zombies blah blah.

I started this show about two weeks ago and just finished it today. My god, this show is incredible. The season finale of season 2 was absolutely insane. Had me on the edge of my seat the entire way through. I can't wait for this next season to start, so glad I decided to check this show out.

The show is really amazing. However I grew really fond of Shane throughout both seasons so his death in the second season was really disappointing to me. Now I'm trying to find a reason to keep watching the series because I don't care for Rick's character or his "personal demons" however I do really like Andrea so I may tune into see how her story plays out.
And before anyone asks me, I agreed with Shane's decisions. This seemed to shock many of my friends and other fans of the show when its discussed with me.

And before anyone asks me, I agreed with Shane's decisions. This seemed to shock many of my friends and other fans of the show when its discussed with me. That's because Shane becomes the outspoken, borderline psychotic, alpha male in a group that already had an alpha male in Rick. I think there were plenty of times when I agreed with Shane, but I think Rick's role, which is conversely different from Shane who wasn't looking to really protect the entire group, was to grasp onto humanity. Although, as we see the story progress, I think you'll see Rick struggle with that philosophy, a lot. I think people openly side with Rick thinking it's the "right thing to do" in most cases but in reality, like Shane, most people would do whatever it takes to stay alive. That's why Rick is your protagonist because he makes the superhero decisions, righteous if you will. As far as the show without Shane, well, that's tough. I think Jon Bernthal was absolutely amazing and the conflict between Rick and him on a weekly basis really drove Season 2. However, I do recommend you give Season 3 a fair shake. This story arc, with the prison and the Governor, and introducing Michonne, should trump anything we have seen to this point. Assuming of course they can capture the story from the comics. I don't mean this in a negative way against the Shane character, but the Governor should make you forget all about Shane. Daryl and Glenn are both more interesting to me than Rick right now, and I didn't even really take to Rick in the books until post prison, as that is when I think his inner demon stuff really got to the point where I connected with him. So I haven't been looking to Rick to carry my interest, at least not yet. Michonne is my favorite character from the comics though, so I'm hoping they do her justice.

I am pretty good with everyone on the show, nobody really bothers me. Well, other than Carl. He's just a little shit.

Out of interest, how far into the story are we in relation to the comics? my old housemate was bugging me to read the comics, but I saw the show first and would rather see how things play out in this medium before reading the original material.

The timelines aren't really the same, especially with the individual characters, but the Governor story starts in like the mid 20's. I think the Prison starts as soon as issue 12. I want to say the bulk of the Prison stuff starts in volume 3 if I remember correctly. I have everything collected on TPB so maybe someone who collects the hardcover books could tell you if one of those collects the entire run. I would guess even then you are at 2 of the hardcover books because the entirety of the Prison and Governor stories run from about issue 12 to like 50. Not sure how they are going to break the story up over this season either so it's hard to say what would put you ahead of the show until we have actually seen it. That's been my favorite run of the comics so far though so if you are going to read anything, I would read that stretch of books.

The comic is way ahead (about 3-4 story arcs) of the show. Of course the show has some differences compared to the comics but if they go the pace that they went with season 2, its going to be a really long time until the show catches up with the comics. My guess is that it probably never will. Just start reading the comics now. Its interesting to see the differences and directions in story between the two mediums. They likely will deviate a lot from each other since there are characters that are in the comics that are not in the show and vice versa as well as characters who killed off early in the comics but not in the shownand the other way around.

You're picking a good time. You should go grab both compendiums online somewhere. Probably save you a ton of money and time. My girlfriend gave me Compendium One (which is the first 8 volumes) for Christmas last year. It's a hell of a big book, but it's awesome. Since then, I've been buying the trades and going volume-by-volume, which I'm caught up on now. But, the Compendium Two just came out. So, you've got it easy if you choose.

AMC is running a marathon on Seasons 1 & 2 so you can refresh your brains on what's happened so far. Or, you can just go on Netflix and watch both seasons on Instant Stream. Can't believe we're just less than 24 hours away from the Season 3 Premiere!
