All the guys who were believable winners to win the Rumble were in matches that year. Guys like Bigelow, Razor, Jarrett, Taker, IRS, Diesel and Bret. The only guys who had a chance at winning were HBK, Bulldog, Luger and Owen.

The only guys who had a chance at winning were HBK, Bulldog, Luger and Owen. Exactly, there were only 4 legit competitors in the match. The match was also quite short at just under 40 minutes. However, it had probably the best Rumble ending of all time. As a 9 year old Bulldog mark, I thought he had finally won.

This years wasn't exactly filled with all-time greats either. If we count guys that are in their prime(so excluding guys like Road Dogg, Booker T, Big Show) and guys that are probably the future of the company(Ziggler and Rhodes) the nI'd say these are the top guys from this years rumble
Cody Rhodes Dolph Ziggler Sheamus(although I don't care for the guy) Wade Barrett(see Sheamus) Randy Orton Jericho
That's not too many superstars.

They should've had more guys from the undercard perform double duty to beef up the Rumble.
Bret, Bigelow, Razor, Undertaker, Jarrett, etc.

The most laughable thing is they had Owen Hart, who was unquestionably in the top 3 stars in the rumble, and eliminated him straight away.

I always thought the 96 rumble that followed was one of the best Absolutely, the star power in that was very good. There was the obvious winner HBK, but you had Owen, Bulldog, young HHH & Austin, Vader, Kane/Yankem, Lawler, Nash, Jake the Snake and Mabel, with guys like Hall, Undertaker, Bret Hart and Goldust in other matches. Total transformation from the 1995 Rumble. I couldn't tell you the last time I sat through the entire 1995 Rumble match. Just dreadful in my opinion. The stars who could plausibly win it at the time were Owen, Luger, Bulldog and HBK. HBK & Bulldog carried that thing, no doubt about it.

I absolutely LOVED the 1996 Royal Rumble. A local video rental store in the small town I lived had Summer Slam 1996, Royal Rumble 1996, Survivor Series 1996 and Confirmed Hits.
Needless to say, I spent MANY MANY MANY nights wearing out my VCR watching Royal Rumble 1996.

Yeah Rumble 96 was AWESOME. I don't care much for the fact that Shawn won two Rumbles (especially in a row). I thought Diesel, Owen or Bulldog would have had a better match with Bret than Shawn did, the Iron Man match just didn't do it for me.
That Bulldog attire <3.

RR96 was a GREAT show and Rumble,IYH in feb was awesome too
on WM12 and the Iron Man match......I will firmy stand behind this opinion.......
a regular match between the two would have been WAY better than the Iron Man match.but unfortunately it was booked and announced to be an Iron man match before the two egos really collided over pinfalls etc etc.what we got was an epic snorefest that revved up around the 45 minute mark.

I totally agree with this!! I hate the WM 12 iron man match, and I am such a huge HBK and Bret fan. But that match, the entire hour of just arm bars and headlocks did not do anything for me. And the fact that the time remaining stayed on the screen the entire time made it seem like it dragged on even longer. I personally think that WM 12 was one of the worse Wrestlemania shows, considering what they could have done with it. And I also think the main event was 60 minutes cause they needed it to fill up time for that Mania.

You and me both brother.. one of my favorite parts is when Vader, Yoko, Mabel are all in, and I think HBK eliminates Vader and Yoko ! You had great moments like Lawler hiding there for a majority of the match, and random entrants like Dory Funk Jr.
