Steiner was the best thing going for WCW in 2000-2001. He went from being some nWo mid-carder in 1999 to being this tweener who would come out and do shoot promos on the company, which was great stuff. Sure, his promos burried WCW, but the promos were entertaining and great. I enjoyed watching him on the mic more than 95% of the other guys from both companies.

Steiner was the best thing going for WCW in 2000-2001. He went from being some nWo mid-carder in 1999 to being this tweener who would come out and do shoot promos on the company, which was great stuff. Most people gave up on WCW by 2000. For those of us who stuck through it, they got to see the absolute awesomeness that was Scott Steiner's rise to the top. From the US Title tournament win against Sting, him putting the Steiner recliner on an unconscious Goldberg to win at Fall Brawl to grant him the opportunity to face Booker T, and then becoming champion at Mayhem to then ride his reign of dominance through to the last Monday Nitro, I just couldn't get enough of the guy. Say what you want about him but from fall of 2000 until the end of March 2001, Scott Steiner was my favorite professional wrestler on earth. I think he is good on the mic, and often times hilarious, and I don't think people always want to give him credit for how good he was in the ring, but in WCW, the guy was worth every penny to pay to see imo. I got into the World Wrestling All-Stars PPVs because of Steiner as well. I mean he was their World Champion for a PPV so how could I miss it. Steiner will always be one of my favorites. I enjoyed plenty of stuff in TNA as well, albeit not anything close to what he was in WCW. I was at Turning Point 09 when he beat Bobby Lashley's ass with a pipe so I will always remember that as pretty cool since I was such a big fan of the guy. |

He was having some pretty good matches before WCW was bought by Vince and the promos he did for the build ups really did make you want to see what would happen next at times. How many suplexes did he actually do at the Royal Rumble against HHH? |

Yeah actually when Steiner had his title run and they kept throwing challenger after challenger at him... it was really great to watch and everytime he'd end up winning either by Jarret smashing a guitar over their head or a chair or whatever... and that'd pretty much end the feud with the guy and the next one would be out next monday on Nitro...
Sadly, that whole storyline really took a bad turn when Sid broke his leg... that was freaking horrible...

What made Steiner so badass and great from 2000-2001 was that he wasn't a prototypical heel champ. Most heel champs around that time would talk a good game but were always cowards in the ring and would try to run from the face at every turn. Steiner not only talked a good game, but he took on every challenger head on and kicked everyones ass.
He'd first talk to Mean Gean about how he was gonna please hit Freak's, and then he'd go out and just dominate. In storyline, he put Goldberg, Sting, Nash, DDP, and Booker T all on the shelf(he legit did hurt Booker on a botched move though). He was a complete badass and I enjoyed watching his heel run more than Triple H's, which was going on around the same time(both were good but Steiner by himself was more enjoyable than Triple H and his cronies imo).
His rise to the top was perfect and its a shame that it was cut short because WCW was bought by Vince. Steiner and Booker T's on and off feud from 1998-2001 was great and they were putting on some good matches at the end of WCW. Oh and just my favorite Steiner promo ever...

I couldn't really stand WCW from mid-2000 until the last day. But Scott Steiner was one guy I watched every time I could. he was FINALLY getting that major singles push as World Champion and sadly WCW was dying. I also enjoyed when Rick won the US title and both he and Scott kind of stood together as a force. Steiners will always be my favorite tag team so some big singles title wins for them always made me smile. |

Gosh those were the days. I remember WCW was getting all these new guys but Steiner was still standing strong and cutting some awesome promos. Although some didn't make much sense lol, he still was doing his thing. Honestly, I know more people were into WWF but I was fascinated during that time frame that I can say that WCW got a lot of my view time. Mainly because these guys like Booker & Scott were getting pushes that when I was a bit younger never seemed possible. It was kind of like the guys you thought (with the exception of Scott) you'd never see in the main event.
Some of my favorite matches in late 2000 & early 2001 were Booker T vs. Scott Steiner. I miss those days.

I always like Steiner, but I kinda view him as someone who didn't live up to their potential. On the mic he tried so hard to be controversial, that he ended up stumbling on his own words more often than not. In the ring, I thought he was going to be one of the greatest when he was still with Rick, and at times he was. But his frame became so big he was limited and injury prone. When he finally got back to WWE he in-ring work was stiff & sloppy at best. And before I get blasted that it was Triple H's fault Steiner looked sloppy, he was just as bad in the ring with Test, and others. I think WWE had high hopes at first and they were quickly extinguished. Had he stayed about this size...  But still had his heel turn and Big Poppa Pump gimmick, I think he'd be considered one of the best ever. |
