With the talk of SummerSlam 95 going on lately, I was wondering if anyone else noticed how bad the big 5 WWE ppvs were that year.
Royal Rumble was decent, considering things. Wrestlemania 11 was horrible. KOTR was the absolute pits. Maybe if HBK won the KOTR (which everyone thought was gonna happen) it would have saved that ppv. SummerSlam was crap and Survivor Series was okay.
But the In Your House cards were just packed with amazing matches.
The July In Your House totally made up for the horrible KOTR and the disaster SummerSlam.
The September and October In Your House ppvs were amazing and made up for the SummerSlam and Survivor Series as well. And the December In Your House was just awesome!!
Did anyone else notice this about 1995?? It seemed the IYH ppvs had the stacked matches and the main ppvs were just blah.

when you consider that Nash was the main man for this year and that Undertaker was feuding with the ultra bland Million $$ outfit-yeah it was crap.
Mabel as a main eventer??holy shit.
WWF 95 would have been in serious crap if it wasnt for Michaels,Harts,UT and Hall.
HB K vs Jarrett saved IYH 2 on its own.

1995 was a major let-down. Even Bret was stuck in medicore feuds with Jerry Lawler and Isaac Yankem (which was actually a decent match at Summerslam). The Diesel experiment was bland at best and the entire year seemed to be a endless session of bad gimmicks and worse matches. There were a few highlights but not many. Thankfully, things started to pick up in 1996.

Don't forget about Bret's sweet feud with Jean Pierre Lafitte as well!! Over his jacket at that.
Another weird thing, why wasn't the Tag Titles defended on SummerSlam that year??
Instead of having Owen and Yoko defend the belts, we get treated with the Smoking Gunns vs. The Blu Brothers?!?! Ugh!

Best bits about 1995 were - HBK and Bulldogs performance at the rumble - Bret vs Diesel Rumble and survivor series - HBK / Ramon ladder match summerslam - The whole survivor series ruled
What sucked - A football player main eventing wrestlemania not to mention bigelow who 1 yr earlier was fueding with a clown - Mable winning king of the ring - Stephanie wyan
Overall though i do feel there was more highs than lows, i enjoyed the million $$ corporation and the undertaker thing. Also In your house was amazing with the house entrance way which was cool as fcuk

From a personal point of view I did enjoy the Wildcard Suvivor Series match, just because it was something new & different.

I loved Bret Hart vs. Diesel from Survivor Series. It's actually one of my favorite matches ever.
I totally forgot about Bret's feud over his ring jacket.
Anybody else remember the "kiss my foot" match between Bret & Lawler or the "Arkansas Hogpen" match between Hunter-Hearst Helmsley & Henry O. Godwinn?

I remember those sweet gimmick matches.
Did anyone else ever notice that the King of the Ring that year was filled with mid card jobbers?? Except HBK, Yoko and Taker, the brackets were horrible. It seemed that the people who should have been in that KOTR that year, got eliminated in the qualifying matches.

I loved 1995 and 1996 in WWE. Me and my friends at school were all huge wrestling fans and we loved every minute of it. Its easy to look back and say it was terrible but at the time we just loved it for what it was. the new generation era is by far my favorite era of pro wrestling.

Owen and Bret had a great, very meaningful fued in the main event the year prior, Bob Backlund snapped from bland good guy to evil, crazy guy, and Undertaker got his revenge on Yokozuna and even his fued with fake Undertaker made sense regarding Dibiase. 1995 seemed like a whole lot of crap was thrown at the wall and whatever stuck, stuck. Mabel was never in a big position except for Summer 1995. He was an afterthought before the Summer, then he was pushed to the sky with KOTR win, and unlike the fueds in 1994 that had stories and made sense, Mabel just smashed Diesel in the lumberjack match into the post and they had a fued. Once that fued was over he had a somewhat big fued with Undertaker though Undertaker fueded with so many guys over his urn it didn't matter. Once Royal Rumble was over Mabel was never heard from for two years. He came in with little fan fare or excitement and left the same way yet for a few months in 1995 he was the main heel.
I do wish Mantaur had stuck around considering the work that went in to his attire. But when you're losing to Bob Holly in the qualifying round to KOTR he's probably no going anywhere. But for the time and effort put into his costume I'd rather see Mantaur in the main event than Sid or Mabel. I just wonder why the gimmick even comes about if it's so bad he isn't even going to be pushed why bother creating it in the first place. Did anyone whoever came up with it even think Mantaur would be interesting?

1995...
Royal Rumble I haven't seen. WrestleMania XI was like watching an episode of RAW from the Guest Host era. In Your House I's undercard wasn't bad; Bret Hart vs Hakushi and Razor Ramon's feud with Jeff Jarrett was decent in whole. King of the Ring SUCKED. In Your House 2 was decent for The Roadie vs 123 Kid, and Shawn Michaels vs Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett's character throughout was fantastic. SummerSlam I haven't seen. Survivor Series was a MASSIVE improvement, good action in the undercard Survivor Series matches and Bret/Diesel, and In Your House 5 was the ending to the dreadful Mabel/Undertaker feud, and had a fantastic main event with Bret vs Bulldog.
It had some decent aspects, others, as aforementioned...not so good.

95 helped me greatly stop watching wrestling. the 95 rumble match itself, was very devoid of star power, but the job bulldog and hbk did still makes it a very enjoyable watch to me. unfortunately, shortly after wrestlemania, i was done with wrestling for a good chunk of time. and although ive caught up with a good chunk of 96... i have no real concerns about seeing the mabel era.

I think that was the thing when you were younger. Regardless how bad the actual product was, you enjoyed it for what it was worth. Thats how I felt during this era. As a kid, can't say it could have been any better.

he also Hurt UT at one point.

I remember hearing a story that when Mabel came back in 1998 to wrestle Shamrock right after Shamrock won the 98 KOTR that a lot of guys told Shamrock to really do damage on Mabel with the ankle lock cause of the injuries Mabel gave out to wrestlers years before.

I felt the entire year up to Survivor Series was very bland and "meh" at best. Yes there were some spikes, but once Bret won the title, I felt things started to pick up plus Michaels started getting his push towards the main event. I thought the 1995 Survivor Series was a good card.

Royal Rumble: Terrible. The Rumble itself was only 38 minutes! I'm pretty sure it was the shortest Rumble ever, the finish was cool though, nice little twist. Probably one of the least talented Royal Rumble matches with guys such as Dick Murodch, the Blu's Brothers, the Godwinns, MOM, WellDunn, Tom Pritchard, Duke the Dumpster etc. There were literally 4 "main eventers" in the Rumble; Owen, Bulldog, HBK and Luger.
Wrestlemania XI: Probably the only Wrestlemania that i've only viewed 1 time, and that would be when it was shown live on PPV. Probably the 2nd worst WM
In Your House: Actually really good, one of the more underrated PPV matches of all time in Hart v. Hakushi.
King of the Ring: Featured one of the worst gimmick matches ever in the Kiss my Foot match, Mabel winning the Rumble, terrible main event. Awful
IYH 2: alright PPV with a few good matches, nothing special
Summerslam: Great undercard. Hot opener, all the undercard matches were really good, even the short women's title match with 2 really great workers. The main event, however, is probably the worst of the big 5 in history.
IYH3: blah who cares, nothing special here
IYH4: I was really excited for this event, but it was pretty boring. Mabel/Yoko was intriguing at the time, and flopped. HBK got beat up by the Cuse thugs, so he wasnt on the card, the main event ended weakly. Hart, HBK, Owen and Taker weren't on the card, making it pretty weak imho. Best moment was Goldust's debut
Survivors Series: was an alright PPV, the wildcard match was a lot of fun
IYH5: Featured legendary PPV quality matches such as Ahmed Johnson v. Buddy Landel, the Arkansas hogpen match, and a 5 minute long casket match.
All in all, i'd say it was probably one of the worst years for PPV's for the WWF. Actually, just one of the absolute worst years for wrestling. Still loved it though.

I don't know how true this is but I heard a while back that the WWF made the Wrestlemania XI card weak on purpose to try and make the LT/Bam Bam match look like a better match than it was.
Bret Hart and Bob Backlund had some underrated matches in the summer and fall of 94, but for some reason their Wrestlemania XI match was terrible.
KOTR was terrible and Mabel was a massive flop as a Main Eventer.
Shawn & Razor in Ladder Match 2 at Summerslam Was awesome.

Instead of having Owen and Yoko defend the belts, we get treated with the Smoking Gunns vs. The Blu Brothers?!?! Ugh! I'm not 100% about this but I know Sid was supposed to wrestle Shawn Michaels for the Intercontinental Championship at Summerslam. I believe Owen Hart & Yokozuna were set to defend against Razor Ramon & Savio Vega. They had the match on Raw where Razor & Savio "won" the titles but the decision was reversed when the wrong guy was pinned, and they were going to have the rematch at Summerslam. Then something happened and Michaels & Sid was changed to Michaels/Ramon Ladder Match 2 and the Tag Title match was pushed off the card.

SummerSlam '95 was a big changed card. i remember getting a WWF magazine with a SummerSlam preview section and it had the following matches: Diesel vs. Mabel - WWF Title Shawn Michaels vs. Sid - Intercontinental Title Road Dogg vs. Jeff Jarrett Alundra Blaze vs. Bertha Faye - Women's Title Undertaker vs. Kama Bret Hart vs. Issac Yankem I don't know if it was a means to cover up some of the people leaving (Jarrett, Road Dogg, etc) but he had this running label "Fan Friendly President." Also anyone know why the Allied Powers weren't used? They could have easily used Bulldog's heel turn at the event.
