So I was watching Kane's DVD last night and it got me thinking. How much was this guy over after the unmasking. The wave of destruction against RVD,The Mcmahons and others like Austin was awesome. He was being built as unstoppable and unstable. His theme was perfect everything was perfect. But instead of him getting a deserved world title reign he slipped down the card into feuds with Edge and Snitsky and so on. Do you think this time deserved a world title reign?

It was basically the begin of the end for Kane when he had unmasked, they should of left him with the mask!
When he had the mask, it some how gave him a little character but now he's just that big guy we see every week and doesn't do anything special!

Kane without the mask is not Kane. exactly, Kane is/was meant to be a guy who was burnt and uses a mask to hind his true self. The Kane now is just a random guy. |

Kane unmasking was a terrible idea, but his character had already been killed off 6 months earlier from the Katie Vick storyline(funny how that also involved HHH dominating Kane). When he unmasked, there just wasn't anything cool about him anymore. He wasn't even burnt, it was aparently all psychological problems w/ Kane, yet it was another nail in the coffin for his character.
Anyway, after Kane unmasked, it was a chance to make him dominant again, yet they put him in a feud w/ Shane McMahon, who was made to look equal to Kane. Thats sad and totally killed his credibility IMO when Shane was kicking his ass(killed RVD as well considering Shane came closer to defeating Kane than RVD). Plus, w/ HHH hogging the world title and his feud w/ Goldberg just starting, I just didn't see Kane as worthy of the world title at the time. He should have won it when he first returned in 2002 w/ the half mask, yet the Katie Vick thing happened and HHH killed him off.

Kane unmasking for natural progression, without unmasking his character would have more stale them it is currently. It turned him heel and gave his character more depth. He was a strong character at first, but the Undertaker's exit/return really destroyed anything he had going for him. He couldn't have been made champion in 2003 because of the Undertaker feud. By the time he was getting some steam he had buried the Undertaker at Survivor Series, then putting the belt on him for a few months would have been a waste, besides who could have he feuded with at the time anyway, Triple H was World Champion, he just beat RVD at Summerslam, Michaels wasn't going to be champion again. Maybe if Booker T was given the title in 2003, Kane maybe could have had a short run beating him, but thats all really. And Brock was a monster himself on Smackdown, so he was a product of bad timing, really.

I've always said it. Kane was ruined way before the unmasking. It all started with the stupid voicebox, then getting a girlfriend, the promo with Hogan and The Rock, and who can forget the Kane-a-roonie.
So you're gonna tell me those moments helped build the Kane character? IMO, those were the things that ruined his character, not unmasking.

Don't forget the whole Katie Vick thing lol I agree that Kane unmasking didn't ruin him, but it didn't help him ay all. |

I liked him way more with the mask.
I'd love for "Kane" to come out in a mask and beat the #$%^ out of the real Kane. Then, they could say the real Kane was a fake and give him the mask back. The fake could then leave and not come back. Kinda like the Undertaker vs Undertaker match, but different.

I was there when he took off the mask for the first time and his face was burnt and his hair was all messed up but the next week he came out and he was fine.

I thought of another idea where Kane gets burnt again on TV (similar to when XPac used a flamethrower in his face) and then must come back with the mask cause he doesn't want people to see him. IMO, Kane's last feud with The Undertaker last year proved that he doesn't need a mask to be interesting. Agreed. Kane was the best thing about SmackDown! in 2010. |

the bloodless "hardcore"feud with Shano O Mac killed his cred FOREVER.
and I thought UT vs Kane last year was rubbish.kane is so stale it isnt even funny.has been since mid 2004.

There's always going to be the typical "Losing the mask made him a jobber!!1" responses. People seriously need to rewatch the summer of 2003 again, Kane was as EXTREMELY over and as credible as he'd ever been. It's such a shame than run always gets forgotten.
It was dragging the Shane feud on for too long, feeding him to Taker, and the Matt Hardy and Snitsky feuds, that ruined him. Not losing the mask.

yeah losing the mask had very little to do with it really.it was the Shane feud that destroyed him to this day.

Uh yeah they did that already... and like someone already mentioned. he wasn't going to keep the mask forever, and would have become even more stale with it. At least him unmasking brought a breath of fresh air. |
