I liked him way more with the mask. I'd love for "Kane" to come out in a mask and beat the #$%^ out of the real Kane. Then, they could say the real Kane was a fake and give him the mask back. The fake could then leave and not come back. Kinda like the Undertaker vs Undertaker match, but different. Uh yeah they did that already... and like someone already mentioned. he wasn't going to keep the mask forever, and would have become even more stale with it. At least him unmasking brought a breath of fresh air. No pun intended?

I hated the unmasking but actually thought it made Kane a pretty destructive and good heel at first. Then the Shane feud killed it... Oh well.

IMO, it was hilarious, and sad, that in 1999, Shane needed 3 other guys to help him barely defeat X-Pac, but in 2003, he could stand alone against Kane. Totally hurt Kane's credibility, but his credibility was already hurt after the whole HHH/Katie Vick storyline from the year before.

He definitely could have been champion in 2003.
This was my favourite character/story of 2003 by far. I hadn't watched WWE since mid 2002 because we got cable cut off for a while. We got it back in time for Summerslam 2003 & I couldn't wait to see Kane(I was 11 at the time & had never actually seen what he looked like), I was very shocked how different he looked & he played the monster heel to perfection.
