I was thinking of this the other day while watching some classic matches. It seemed every other match was a tag-team bout. It seemed back in the 80's and 90's, they just had some awesome teams. Road Warriors, Steiners, Hart Foundation, Midnight Express, etc. Back then, the teams were tag-team wrestlers, not just singles wrestlers thrown together like they are now (Show/Jericho) and then split up a few weeks later. Teams use to stick with each other for years.
I truly miss the glory days of tag-team wrestling. As a matter of fact, tag-team wrestling holds some of my fondest memories. It was some of these teams that actually got me interested in wrestling in the first place.
Do any of you miss seeing "actual" tag-teams that really mean something?

Tremendously.some of my fave acts were teams and a lot of my top matches involve teams.
honesly its one of the reasons I started watching TNA back in 03.AMW vs XXX in the 6 sides was magnificent.

I was watching the WWE 24 On Demand stuff this weekend and they have a show on there "Legends of Wrestling" for those who don't know it's a talk show type setting with "Mean Gene" hosting (well till he runs to TNA) and this month they talk about the best tag-teams ever. There is a part where they mention that nowadays they don't have the great tag-teams of the past and Michael Hayes put it this way on why they don't. He said it is "pounded in his head" that it's much cheaper for the "E" to focus on singles talent. When it was back in the early days they would sign a tag-team and that team would be responsible for all it's expenses. Now a days when the "E" signs a team the "E" would have to take more care of them. Such as PR trips and whatnot. So they would have to pay for two people to go do whatever. So now that they only push single stars they save more money.
So basically the reason we don't have a great tag-team division in the "E" anymore is because it's a cost cutting measure.
Always comes down to cash in the end.

I LOVE tag team wrestling. I love watching people take the basic tag team formula and play with it, vary it up, come up with some interesting endings. I miss tag team wrestling.

I miss it a lot. I enjoyed the days when the Dudley Boyz, The Hardy Boyz and Edge and Christian were around as teams

i absolutely do. tag team matches of old featured great ring psychology and were really works of art. nowadays, it's more about fitting it into the time slot and giving every participant their 5 minutes more than anything.

In WWE I do miss the tag teams.... Now they just put people together and try to make a catchy name like MIZ SHOW...... I wish there was more emphasis on the tag team but sadly there isnt... I mean hell how long have we had unified tag titles?? for that just make it 1 tag team championship...looks crazy to have the tag champs hold 4 belts......TNA actually has tag teams over there... Check them out if you havent yet.. Also that match Last night between Motor Machine Guns and Generation ME WAS AWESOME!! EVeryone do yourself a favor and try to watch it on some video site or something......

I most certainly do, and realise that despite tag team wrestling being an essential part of wrestling, it's rather sad that the WWE doesn't want to focus on it for the sake of money. Every promotion has had its great share of depth within the tag team division, especially ECW at a time (they had Public Enemy, The Gangstas, The Dudleys, The Samoan Gangsta Party, The Eliminators, Sabu/RVD, Balls/Axl, Impact Players, bWo, FBI, etc) but eventually fell victim to 'throwing guys together' with Tanaka/Dreamer or Awesome/Raven.
Regardless of that, on a bigger stage, it is sadly missed, as tag team in-ring psychology was something that is sorely missed by this poster, the last time I got excited about the tag team division anywhere was in ROH in 2007-2008 (No Remorse Corps, Steenerico, Briscoes, Vulture Squad, Resilience, Age of The Fall)

Such a great time in ROH aroind then. You really got that old school feel when all of those teams began to take form. But I will say, ROH's Tag Team division is really starting to heat up again. Teams like The Briscoes, Young Bucks, King and Titus(sometimes), The American Wolves, The Kings Of Wrestling, The Dark City Wrecking Crew, and more, have me interested again.

Absolutely. Some of my all-time favorite feuds were tag team matches. Often times, good tag team matches are what keeps the crowd going in the middle of a card/PPV.

Absolutely.
But its a part of saturation. There was always "stars" of teams, and with weekly television and short, crisp title runs and feuds, there's no way for most teams to keep their heads up. I mean, did anybody want to see the Hardy Boyz or Edge and Christian continue? They truly ran their course, and I honestly don't regret their turning.
It just seems like now tag teams HAVE to be launching platforms. You team for a year, maybe two, then the most prominent guy gets his go at the big time. It worked for the Rockers, right? Too bad it hasn't worked all that well since the tag team division really fell apart. There's no more Lance Cade or The Brian Kendrick push going on.
And I agree to those who give credit to independent promotions like ROH. They really know how to keep tag teams and factions alive, even when they really might not wanna (Briscoes, anyone?).

That is probably the biggest part of WWE that I miss. With all the money they make as a company, it's a shame that they axed such a fun part of the product for the sake of making even more. Their tag titles now are nothing more than a lame tool to push singles competitors and their story lines.
We won't see those belts on a legit tag team until they no longer need those single stars to be teamed with someone. Then they'll have a real tag team hold onto them for a little while until they decide it's time to do the same lame cycle all over again.

Without question, YES! I remember yes ago Bret Hart stating tag team wrestling was a dying art, which I find truer today. Take a look at the 80's and 90's when tag team wrestling was at its best. I mean in the late-80's WWF had SO MANY teams on different levels (jobbers, mid-cards, main-eventers). Presently 99% of teams are makeshift teams whom disband within a very short time.
In 1996, WCW had a sick amount of solid tag teams (Road Warriors, Steiners, Harlem Heat, Fire & Ice, Nasty Boys, Blue Bloods, etc) and they never really pushed tag team wrestling.

yes and no. I miss things about tag wrestling. I miss tag teams that dress alike. I know it might be corny but Harlem Heat, Hart Foundation, British Bulldogs, Road Warriors, Steiner Brothers, Nasty Boys, Rockers, Strike Force, etc etc etc.....they all had matching attires. I loved that. I hate seeing Batista in his trunks and cena in a pair of walmart shorts being tag champs or even Stonecold and HBK back in 96ish. Tag team wrestling will just never be the same any more.

I wish some of the younger fans had the chance to live through the 80's and especially through the NWA from 85 to 89. The list of great Tag Teams and matches from that era are just mind blowing Here are just a small list of great teams that were in the NWA in 1986.
The Road Warriors The Midnight Express The Rock and Roll Express The Minnesota Wrecking Crew Ivan and Nikita Koloff America's Team - Dusty Rhodes and Magnum T.A.
These are just a few from 1986 alone.

Hell yeah. My favorite tag team right now is The Hart Dynasty, but I think the last good tag team was The Miz & Morrison even though they weren't the best in the ring they were very entertaining. IMO
