The Shield is a perfect example of doing that kind of thing the right way.
A group of 3 attacking popular superstars after or during a match. Imagine they debuted the Shield vs 3MB and they all just squashed those guys in 45 seconds? then the next week it was like Santino/Ryder/Khali, then R-Truth & the Prime Time Players....etc.
The idea behind this wrestling thing is supposed to be unpredictability. Whenever they debut a new guy like Rusev and they cut to Zack Ryder in the ring every single person in the audience KNOWS exactly what is going to happen. There is absolutely ZERO entertainment in that. Predictability is boring. Which is why so many times it just doesn't work. Tensai is another one I forgot to mention....yeah he debuts squashes a bunch of crapheads, then gets a W over John Cena (out of nowhere) but it made zero sense because there was no build to it what so ever.

In a few months, Lana will be more popular than Rusev.

Sometimes it works though...Ryback is a great example,,,he was major over as a face, then they turned him heel and fed him to cena. Shoulda left him alone

Rusev will have a comedy gimmick within a year. He'll be smiling and teaming with Santino.

There just needs to be new talent. No what there needs to be is to consistent pushes to get stars over with fans and not stop them if they are not over the first week. There is no excuse for someone as talented as sandow to be 1-45 this year. very true he is a good wrestler and should get a push

I think what they fail to see, is that pushing someone this way only works if the audience can actually buy into the person they are pushing. The whole Bulgarian Brut gimmick is great but it would work great if it was with someone that could actually go in the ring. Look at Brock Lesnar when he first came in. He had lots of squash matches, but people could tell he was a genuine athlete, a genuine beast, and could buy into the push. Rusev will be forever hidden behind squash matches until they give up on the idea as they realise he wont be able to work a 25 minute Match.
