having a guy debut and just squash jobbers or mid carders for weeks on end does NOTHING for their character, purpose or interest from the fans. unless its completely over the top like Ryback was (and even then the smark fans killed it by chanting Goldberg....even though Ryback is nothing like goldberg at all outside of he's bald. and then the WWE killed it because.....we dont even know, i guess he pissed someone off?). And what I meant by putting Big E in that category is that typically the WWE's idea of making sure we "the idiot fans" think that Big E is the greatest thing ever is by just letting him squash Yoshi Tatsu or Dolph Ziggler. I'm just bored to ing DEATH OF SQUASH MATCHES

Honestly what is defeating Someone like Xavier Woods for 30 seconds is gonna prove for him defeating guys like Woods, R truth, Tyson Kidd, Justin Gabriel, etc doesn't give him any credibility at all.

throughout history...it's long been the practice that any new "big" guy they want to debut, he should clearly beat smaller, less important guys in short bursts thus convincing the "dumb fans" that this new guy is an unstoppable beast (you know, by beating guys that get beat by EVERYONE EVER all the time) thus then when he goes on to challenge an already established talent, somehow we are to believe the guy stands a chance
even though they could achieve the same resolution in any way they wanted, but its easy lazy and vanilla to just debut a new guy having him squash mid-carders

The problem with Big E has nothing to do with the match aspect, it has to do with the fact he hasn't had a story since winning the title. Same applies for the Usos.

Its definitely a problem, a fairly big one. However, I think the bigger problem WWE has, is if you're not in some kind of a feud, suddenly you're easier to beat. Dolph is a prime example. As are Ryback, Miz, and pretty much anyone not named Cena. Swagger may be the biggest example of it. I'm all for the notion that "anyone can win at anytime" but when Ryback and Swagger were getting pushed they had competitive matches, which they more than likely won, weekly. Now, they aren't doing anything and lose routinely in a matter of minutes. Hell, Ryder used to have competitive matches with Ziggler and Swagger WHEN he was getting pushed, now he's suddenly forgotten how to wrestle and gets squashed in mere minutes when he actually gets on TV.

WWE have tried and tried to do this (often) foreigner monster gimmick so manye times and failed... They usually get a huge push from nowhere contend foe the world title then either leave or end up doing comedy/jobbing... Lets go through the list!
Umaga, Khali, Rusev, Kozlov spring to mind. Also Ryback and to some extent Barrett

I think the real problem is that they've done it with too many guys in general. Having a monster come in and destroy guys works, obviously, but only if there is a commitment to it. Ryback turned it into something. He got over. So you can't really argue with the formula when a guy is standing on top of HIAC, after he just lost, and has 20,000 people screaming "Feed Me More" right along with him. This isn't the 80s or early 90s though. We've gone through the Bret and HBK era where the landscape changed. Daniel Bryan is the WWE Champion. I think the idea of that kind of monster heel is mostly dead and WWE doesn't know how to move away from it because it works temporarily. We see guys way too often on TV, and they face a limited pool of opponents in a short period of time, and they generally don't ever get a real feud. I mean Khali got it to work for him for a period of time, Mark Henry, Kane, Big Show, even Sheamus, have all gotten this type of gimmick to work at various points not that long ago. It's just not sustainable. I kind of like Rusev. I like that he's paired with someone who is an awkward combination of sexy and obnoxious, and I like that he's not going to be a chicken sh*t heel, which is the only other kind of heel WWE knows how to do haha. I don't see his ride lasting very long. I think a guy like Bray Wyatt, with a fully developed character, going out and having great matches with Bryan, The Shield and Cena is going to make him stick around. The "Warrior" push only works if you're going to let a guy win damn near all of his matches for years on end. We saw the same situation with Goldberg in WCW where there was that level of commitment but it did have to end. For me it just goes back to storytelling. Tell us an interesting story around this guy. I don't mind squash matches if they feel meaningful but as you've said, we've seen so much of this that we're really desensitized to the entire concept. Push the gimmick, push a feud, and give the character substance. That's the bigger issue with these type of guys imo. Great post man.

Didn't Cesaro do this when he first came in?

Didn't Cesaro do this when he first came in? Yes, but then he won the U.S. Title and defended it bringing some prestige back into it while wearing some cool entrance jackets to make his character unique. Unlike Ambrose who's 10 days away from becoming the longest U.S. champion.

If they had let Barrett run with Nexus instead of face the walking burial that is John Cena he would have been a great WWE champ and could be one of the top heels.

Alexander Rusev to me is just boring, the best thing about him is Lana.

this is an age old thing in wrestling, it at least goes back to the 80s where they'd have 2-3 minute matches to put over a new star over a jobber. early 90s wcw reminds me of this, where they are throwing out gimmicks and potential stars crushing jobbers left and right, hoping something would catch.

There just needs to be new talent. No what there needs to be is to consistent pushes to get stars over with fans and not stop them if they are not over the first week. There is no excuse for someone as talented as sandow to be 1-45 this year.

Remember when Lord Tensai came in and jumped right into a feud with John Cena? Couple months later he was with Brodus Clay dancing lol. This big monster gimmicks just dont work anymore. Fans want to see competitive matches, Not squash matches every week. Thats probably the least effective way of getting yourself over.
A debut they got 100% right was The Shield, I remember that first match they had in the TLC and from that moment on, you know this was something special in the making.
