Ok, since we are having more general discussion threads due to drought and whatnot I figured I would make this one.
If Jakks were to start making Mattelesque figures, would you buy them?
Now, to give you guys a little background on myself, I am a Mattel die-hard. I had Jakks figures, but I never collected them with such passion as I do these. So it is safe to say that once Mattel took over I pretty much kicked Jakks to the curb and never looked back.
Others might have stuck with Jakks, and others just buy both.
So with this in mind would it be a bad idea for Jakks to take a note from Mattel, and start making their figures more in line with Mattel's. Everything from scale accuracy, to pimped put accessories, to even being a tad smaller like Mattels.
IMHO I think they would sell nicely, and it is not a bad thing to copycat what other companies do since it does lead to success. Mattel being a prime example of this. I never really thought much of Mattel where it concerned the action figure market until they came out with DCUC. Meaning DC versions of what was pretty much Marvel Legends. Infact I honestly think that if it weren't for Marvel Legends figure like WWE Elites wouldn't exist today.
So I think it would be awesome if Jakks made their version of Elites. I wouldn't expect them to be 100% in line with Mattel figures but close enough.
Some could argue this thread belongs in the Jakks thread, but this is a question for Mattel collectors.

If they are all in scale and look good displayed together, I wouldn't care who makes them.

I'm hoping WWE's partnership with Mattel doesn't end. I had a ton of Jakks figures, but like you I was never as into figures as I am now. I attribute that directly to Mattel's product.
People may complain about quality with Mattel, but they're nowhere CLOSE to how bad Jakks was. They put out a lot of figures that were embarrassing.

i guess it depends on whether or not jakks would still be up to their old tricks
will there be more than 3 torso molds? [unique torsos? or would EVERYONE have 6 pack abs and 24" pythons] will the figures receive paint/deco on the back?
etc.

It would never happen, simply because Mattel just has better resources and plenty of success with lines such as Barbie and hotwheels, which have been here before most of us were born. Jakks quality is mediocre to say the least, besides i'm sure they make other toys that net them a better profit than the TNA figure line. Bottomline: Mattel is just a superior toy maker, period!

I just wish that when Mattel took over jakks, who had time to scout, had gone back to the r3 molds to start the line. The DA figures just weren't that great and don't work with most of what jakks did with wwe.

The only reason I stopped collecting Jakks was because of a.) their lack of effort at the end of the WWE line and b.) the use of the "Deluxe Aggression" 7" scale.
So, yeah, if they copied Mattel and made good, quality figures in a 6" scale... Obviously, I would buy them.

the reason I kept some of my old Toybiz TNA, and wish I kept the WcW figures was that they were in scale. Sure they were off alittle and the body molds were different, but when I got my first Mattel Elite Rey, he had epic battle's with Chris Sabin.
If Jakks made TNA figures in scale with Mattel, instant buy for me

The Only JAKKS figs I own are Matt Morgan & Kimbo Slice since they can believable fit in scale with my Mattel collection. If JAKKS made figs in scale with Mattel I know I'd buy guys like Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle, Austin Aries, Hogan, Sting, Samoa Joe. Since JAKKS already makes exclusives for RSC targeted to the hardcore collectors, with guys like Hardy, Sting, Aries, I don't understand why they wouldn't make a new scale compatible with Mattel. People keep bringing this up, so obv there is a demand for it. Why hasn't JAKKS even tried with ONE in scale figure?

If Jakks made their figures more in scale to Mattel, their sales would likely double and go through the roof! That is, if they could actually get them out in time. Seeing as how 2 years or so later the last TNA series Ive seen on shelves was Series 6. Jakks will never do it though, they're not smart enough to capitalize on what another company is doing and ride their coat tail.

Jakks doesn't have the budget to make their figures like Mattel. There's no money in the license to make whole new molds to basically start the line over. TNA is a much smaller license so it puts a lot of restraints. The TNA line has gotten much better as of late, so I don't want it to change. Would be interesting if Mattel started first and Jakks followed.

Care to elaborate as to why? I feel the opposite, but want to know your reasoning.

What if Jakks copied Mattel......wouldn't they get sued by Mattel in the first place?

Care to elaborate as to why? I feel the opposite, but want to know your reasoning. I think that the Mattels just have such a cheap look to them, the molds are for the most part far too muscular and scrawny, the biceps are wafer thin and their headscans are nearly always very poor. I was thinking about getting a Sheamus figure as I am a fan of his, but I looked through the Mattel figures and every one I saw was terrible. Don't get me wrong, some of them are pretty good. I like the DM Savage, and the Diesel. But there's a reason why I have over 1000 jakks figures, and only 11 Mattels. Jakks had it's scale issues and in the end they consistently left off paint and used wrong parts but there is no doubt that when they tried, they pulled off works of art. The TNA Sting/Hogan 2 pack (RA style) is far better than anything Mattel has done since they began on the WWE line.

The thing is though that almost all of the figures had the same body molds with a few obvious exceptions,Paul London was the same size as Batista for example and the Deluxe aggression Figures are taller than Big Shows,it's like collecting two different sets of figures that you can't use with each other at all.Plus they always had stupid head scans and molded t-shirts all the time.

I'm not denying that the scale was a huge issue, I never really had a problem with the molded t-shirts, mostly because I didn't buy many of the RA figures, I stuck mostly to the CS line.

the Jakks Classic Superstar line got me back into collecting. They made so many people! But I've since sold my Jakks figs. The only ones I still have are of guys Mattel has yet to make and/or look decent scale wise with my Mattels.
