You clearly lust for Attention. Perhaps that is why you can't help but post your goddamn personal issues all over this website. Perhaps that is why you have -26 Karma and attract mainly negative comments. What he said..... But I'll admit my collection embarasses me alot. Everytime I walk into a TRU and look for figs I wonder what people are thinking about a 17 year old kid buying toys. Hell not a single one of my friends even knows I have a collection and I like it that way. I'd rather have nobody know about something then get picked on because of it. Sadly in this day and age wrestling isnt exactly the coolest of things......it sucks really.

Hey all. I finally made an account here after several months of lurking. I love wrestling and the figures, but I have to admit Im a little ashamed. Nobody in my family is supportive of my hobby, and my dad says that the dollies are probably why I'm "queer" he' s never said it to me, but I overheard him arguing with my mom. My mom stopped buying me figs last year, and yesterday was my birthday and not 1 fig or wrestling related item. Even my boyfriend hates my collection and is flat out jealous and says I probably am more attracted to.this "dolls" than I am him. Anyone else have problems like this? I see zero logic in people criticizing your collection. It's a fun hobby--no more, no less. The only advice I can give you is to redirect conversations away from it. A few years from now, you'll have your own housing and hopefully this won't be a problem then. Good luck.

This is a hobby that we all enjoy. Some prefer to keep it a secret and some dont give to craps if everyone knows. So sack up and stand up for what you enjoy doing. I know i do amd everyone else on here does or why would we be here.

Hi there, well honestly I kind of feel your pain and suffering cos I do experience this at home and my family is not very supportive of my hobby b But to be real honest, I've never felt ashamed of my hobby, in fact I grew to love collecting even more as I had a personal connection with my hobby and it really didn't matter if nobody understood Nevermind what others think, that's why we have great forums like these for collectors alike to share our collection and indulge in the wonderful hobby of toy collecting

Nope.
My wife is fine with my toy collecting (wrestling figures are a small part of it), and if she wasn't, I wouldn't have married her, because that's a large part of who I am, and if you don't find someone who accepts you for you, but expects you to be someone you're not, you'll never be happy.
High school causes you to spend time with people because of your geography, not common interests. Once you get out of it, you surround yourself with people who share your interests. I go to comic, toy, movie or horror conventions all the time, and when I'm there, I'm literally surrounded by thousands of people who collect toys and share common interests. I've been blessed with a ton of good friends, and there literally isn't one of them who isn't into comics, action figures, Star Wars, or geek culture in general. That's not because a lot of people in my area are like that, it's just because I don't let negative people or people I don't like into my life.
Being a teenager just flat-out sucks for everybody; the only exceptions to that rule are the "popular kids," but make no mistake, after high school, it's all downhill for them. That's why you should discount the opinion of anyone who ever says high school is the best time of your life. It gets a hell of a lot better in a couple of years, especially if you go to college.

As long as you like it, that's all that matters, buddy. I'm 27 and live with my girlfriend. She's embarrassed for me, haha! But there are things that she likes that I think are ridiculous and would never get into. So everyone has their own "thing" but some things society puts an age bracket on and if you don't fall into that bracket, you're a loser.. Moreso than the people who sit around watching reality TV all day or some other mind-numbing BS. I don't think you should feel embarassed just because of what other people think of you. That's no way to live your life. Just do whatever makes you happy unless you're doing something that is physically hurting yourself or someone else. Playing with/collecting figures never hurt anyone...at least, that I know of.

Yeah, its touchy at times. My friends all know I collect - my best friends don't care and most of them think my collection is cool. My newer friends make fun of me for it here and there - some call it "dolls". I have a lot of friends - only a small handful watch wrestling and only ONE collects like I do. I am probably the biggest wrestling fan I know. I had a party the other weekend - all my wrestling figures are in the upstairs room. I didn't really want to advertise it but some people who didn't know me or my collecting ways went up there and didn't have much to say - that sort of bothers me more than being made fun of because its like they quietly feel bad for me or for my girlfriend for dating someone with an outrageous action figure collection. It's not something I want to advertise to people who don't know me. It's not something I want to tell people about proudly. It's not because I'm embarrassed. It's because people don't understand and will likely just ask me questions or make comments I don't feel like answering or defending. It's not easy to be comfortable with something that nobody in your life shares or understands. I used to think when I got older I would stop - but as I've gotten older (I'm 29), I realize that its something I love. Figure hunting gives me this excited feeling in my stomach that I don't get for very much else. Finding something I am looking for and adding to my collection is one of the greatest feelings I get. I will leap over hurdles and huge obstacles to obtain figures - things I wont do for most anything else. Is it an obsession? To a degree... But like other people have said, if it makes you happy and isn't hurting anyone and you can afford it and not place it above your job or girl or whatever, you should be able to do what you wish. I just moved in with my girlfriend - who is the sweetest and most loving girl a guy could ask for. Couldn't be luckier. She doesn't want me to display in the living room of our new home - nor does she want our bedroom walls cluttered with toys... but thats ok. She gave me the entire upstairs to decorate and stash as I please and its such a nice room for me to go up to and get away from everything. My parents were never super supportive of my figure buying but they accept that its just something I like and they don't let it affect their opinions of me as a person (hopefully lol). The only person in my life who makes me feel bad about my collection is my older sister. I try to not talk about this with her because she just rolls her eyes and thinks I'm wasting money and hoarding like a crazy person.. I don't think her opinions are fair or justified but I can't change them. I bought my 3 year old nephew a birthday present from TRU and left the receipt in the bag and of course the receipt had wrestling figures on it... she gave me crap for it and made me feel so rotten. That was the last time I talked to her about it and quite frankly, its not her concern and her opinions wont control my life. You can't please everyone but if you are into something thats harmless and you are able to support the hobby, never give up and never back down!

Congrats on moving in with your girlfriend! I also used to feel that way. But about 2 years ago, I took a look at my collection and thought 'You know what? I've spent so much on this. What would be the point of just throwing it all away?'

What would be the point of just throwing it all away?' Exactly. I also don't collect for financial gain. So when I think about selling, I realize I don't need the money and I'm only going to get a tiny tiny fraction of what I spent... all those miles driving and all that time and energy - you can never get that back. Selling pieces individually is the best way to make anything back but that just becomes so time consuming and you still lose out because your stuck with pieces that nobody wants - so selling as a lot is the only way to do it but you end up getting burned and then regretting the decision.

Absolutely not, i love my collection and sure my family doesnt understand why i collect them but i dont understand why they buy the things they do. Its all about being an individual, dont be a clone. Be different and do the things that make you happy and the hell with anyone else.

I'm 31 and have a large collection of Jakks WWE figures in my apartment's living room. I'm lucky I grew up with cool friends and another collector friend who is about 30 times more hardcore about toys/figures. I do feel slightly embarrassed if I bring other people, such as co-workers over but I get over it pretty fast. My girlfriend also lives with me and she has a ton of Hello Kitty stuff. I always think I'm pretty lucky that she's a hot chick who accepts my wrestling fandom and has her own nerdy hobby. Sometimes she makes fun of my figures being a bunch of "guys in their underwear" but then I get her back with photos like the one below and we have a good laugh! Haha...

I am almost 40 and I am not ashamed of my collection. My wife doesn't care for it, but that okay. I don't much care for the decorative frogs all over the kitchen, living room, bathroom, garage, etc. Furthermore, punch your dad in the head for being a basher, man-up and quit having mommy buy your figs, and if the boy toy don't get it and is threatened by 6 inches of plastic, find a new one. For anyone else that reads this, sorry for the Mick Foley-esque rant. AWSUME!!!! FOLEY IS GOD but as for this thread................. broski get a grip!! You need to re work an old road dogg phrase "if your not down with my collection, then i got two words for you........... S**K IT"
