That Magnom TA is simply nothing sort of awesome I HOPE we get a release of him in 2012. He'll certainly fill in a big hole on my all time wants list, a huge wrestling icon in the 80's that hasn't had a figure yet.

I must admit, I said a few days ago that Magnum TA wasn't worth producing. I always thought the guy looked like a houseshow jobber with a hillbilly mullet. The real guy does/did. I don't care what you say about how good he was gonna be, or how Ric Flair was scheduled to drop his title to the man at Starrcade (or something in Greensboro). Yes I watched the Rise and Fall of WCW (and admittedly, Crocket promotions just wasn't a big deal where I'm from). But Ric Flair was more likely to drop his title to any Joe Blow than I'm likely to drop a hot coal. That's why he was heavyweight champ umpteen times. He kept losing his belt to promote others. Admirable as it may have been, it doesn't mean much to beat Flair for the belt.
And besides, we can all name some sports star we knew or admired, maybe someone we played high school ball with, or someone on our favorite college team that didn't make it to superstardom for some "excusable" reason. The most common excuse is an injury or being injury prone. The only thing we can measure is true success, as much as we may like someone.
That being said, this figure is AMAZING looking. He really looks like the real guy, but oddly he looks really badass! I don't know how that's possible since the real guy looks like such a douche to me. But I like this figure. I'll definitely buy it. But I'm afraid he won't sell well.

Yeah major shame it is most likely a scrapped line up. That figure looks perfect!

That's too bad, that would have been a solid assortment even though DDP looks pretty flamboyant.

Thanks for the updated pic, that's pretty amazing.
I'm sure we'll see him released in some way. I just hope we don't have to wait too long.

I don't know why young kids come in here to bash Magnum and say he won't sell well and basically isn't worth the plastic. Alot of people here are young i get that, but believe it or not, wrestling was actually great well before the Attitude or Ruthless Agression eras.

Legends wave 7 was cancelled. Magnum TA just missed the lineup for Legends online in 2012. He was eked out in 6th place. He will be in the voting lineup for 2013 Legends IF the line does well enough to warrant another year of sales.

The legends line being cut down like this really sucks. We could have atleast got a legends figure for each month in 2012.

don't see why Magnum can't be added as a flashback instead of being put on the voting list for next year IF the line does well

don't see why Magnum can't be added as a flashback instead of being put on the voting list for next year IF the line does well Because he won't sell. Period. The guy wrestled for one prominent southern promotion from 1977-1986. Unlike most great Crockett talent, he never wrestled in a Wrestlemania. It doesn't matter that he was GOING TO BE a superstar before his car wreck. He wasn't. I don't see how he would've been much more than a middle-carder in the WWF anyway (just like his fat friend Dusty Rhodes, who never held the world title in WWF). The guy looked like a house show jobber. And as much as you guys may like to belittle or besmirch us for not knowing who he is, that doesn't prove any of us wrong. He will not sell. The guy's wrestling career ended 25 years ago! He wrestled in one predominately southern promotion. AND he looks like Barry Horowitz's blonde counter-ego. Thankfully Mattel is wising up. This guy should be an online exclusive. And if you want him, you better buy five of the other 2012 legends to assure he gets made. LOL.

They need to find a way to release Magnum next year, we shouldn't have to wait for a 2013 poll that might or might not happen.
If Mattel was generous to the fans they could add Magnum to the mattycollector line as a bonus figure, He might sell better or about the same as Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson.

Come on...Bottom Line its a nice well made Figure. No. The bottom line is the bottom line. His career is the reason he has a figure. Do you have a wrestling career to speak of? No. That's why you won't get a figure in Mattel's line. It's a similar reason why Magnum TA, though complete and ready for production, will sit in a factory while Mattel pumps out better choices for their Flashback sub-line. Mattel just said he will sit until 2013 AT LEAST. It's a wise choice because his CAREER that ended 25 years ago doesn't warrant mass production. It's about money, the true bottom line. Aside from completists, collectors look for figures to avoid. Magnum PI (I mean, his ripoff TA), would be easy for a great many collectors to leave in the store.

I don't see him selling better than two guys who wrestled at Wrestlemania, who were also charter members of the Four Horsemen. Plus, Arn Anderson was prominent well into the Monday Night Wars AND he will be on WWE '12. That should be enough to secure some extra buys on recognition alone. But putting Magnum TA up on mattycollector a year early wouldn't bother me any. That's where he belongs anyway.

geez kevin who pissed in your cereal?
Magnum never got a toy release, this would be a first in the history of wrestling action figures, and you'd rather deny some fans that?
And although he might look like Barry H's brother to you, I assure you he was no jobber. I'd bet dollars to donuts he drew more than Papa Shango.

And he probably did draw more than Papa Shango . . . 25 years ago! Are a greater percentage of those people collecting Mattel than the ones who know of Shango? Who really knows. Mattel obviously thinks not. They totally skipped over Magnum TA for Papa Shango and now the Big Bossman. Good decisions in my opinion. Plus, Papa Shango rivaled with the Ultimate Warrior at house shows. Did Shango draw more than Magnum TA? No. But I bet the Warrior did! And when they saw the Warrior, they saw Shango. TA does deserve a figure, but NOT at mass retail. P.S. There is probably a reason Magnum TA never got a figure, even with the "extensive" selection offered by Jakks classics.

Honestly, as a huge fan of Magnum and as someone who doesn't care at all for Papa Shango, Magnum would probably be a major shelfwarmer. He's a huge legend to us who are familiar with classic NWA, but considering he never worked for the Fed and doesn't look very exciting, I just don't see him selling well.
Then again, I could say the same thing about Kevin Von Erich and he got released, so lets see how well he does. Magnum could probably work if he was one per every other case with some other obscure superstar (heck, do Barry Windham, he's just be a new head and a paint job away from Magnum).
Shango might not have the notoriety of Kama or Godfather, but he does look more interesting.

There's a whole other world of figure collectors out there besides the few that jumped the bandwagon in the attitude era.

Explain to me, smart guy (you must be smart to like Stanford), why then has there not been a Magnum TA figure? Why, with ALLLLL the figures and 28 or so series of Jakks Classics did we not get a Magnum TA? Why did Mattel come on here and say he WON'T be a flashback and MIGHT be produced IF 2012 legends sell and IF he wins a poll next year? It sounds to me like a lot of people didn't think he'd sell. And a lot of people on here don't think so either. I guess it's our mentality, not our logic that a one-promotion guy from the 80s wouldn't sell well. We're all dumb, aren't we?

Why didn't we get Steamboat, Macho or the von Erichs with Jakks? They said they tried to sign them but couldn't for various reasons like Steamboat's legal issues (devorce), Macho wanted too much yet Mattel had no trouble signing them. Maybe Jakks didn't offer Magnum enough? Unless you worked for Jakks nobody here knows why he wasn't in Jakks CS. And maybe I missed it but I don't recall Mattel saying he wouldn't be a Flashback. All I saw was them saying that anyone that wasn't picked in the poll would be put in the vote again for 2012 depending oth this years sales.
