Now when Mattel first came out i was a little hesitant to buy a new line. I had collected Jakks since 96 when i was a little kid. I am 23 years old now.But i said i'll get the first set of Basics and 2 packs. I quickly found them all and moved onto series 2 and then got into Elite. I have all the Elite, Basics, and 2 packs since they came out up to series 8. I even got the legends and EG upon seeing them. Now i think i am just losing interest like i did in Jakks.
The first year was great, every set had new figures, new sculpts, new attires, everything to get excited about. Now? I see Cena in every set with the same things. They took the stands out not that that matters to some of you but it did to me. The Legends are great but i am having trouble with stores restocking. I had a lot of fun when they first came out but now its just the same things over and over. Walking into stores seeing the same PPV sets or the same Elite 6 and 5. I lost some interest in Legends with the lack of news too. We haven't really saw some new protos except series 5 which is just coming out soon. We don't hear of any signings or anything. WE also are waiting for series 2 Legends 2 packs.
Sorry for the rant but i don't know if i am the only one who feels like their are borderline done or its just me. What are your thoughts on the lines.

I'm glad that every set isn't 6 figures that I consider "must buys". For one, I'm not a completist. I just buy the ones that I want, and I don't feel like I am ever in need of a new figure -- I just get the ones that I think look really good. For another, Mattel pumping out Cenas and Reys means that they're going to keep doing good business, so they can return a high-quality product to us.

I think they're mostly unremarkable and like the poster above I only buy the figures that I really want and/or are really cool. That may be just be a side effect due to me not really liking many of the guys wrestling today.
It also seems like some stores are really slow to catch up on current lines and I'm not sure if that's Mattel's fault or the particular store's.

like everyone mentioned already, I too only buy what I like. I collect only Legends because the current roster doesn't excite me. Even then I'm now choosing which legends I want - I'd rather One Man Gang than Akeem for instance. Anyways, we all lose a bit of steam from time to time, but I suspect after you see what's presented at Toyfare in about 17 days time, you'll get excited again.

I only collect Legends and i get everyone from that line. As for the Basic and Elites i only get the ones i like.
I agree sometimes it gets old going into store after store and now seeing anything new.

I think the problem is Mattel came out hot and heavy and have lost a little steam towards the end of last year. People got excited about new molds, scans, etc. But at some point, Mattel was going to re-use the molds and release re-releases and re-paints. I know many Mattel die-hards bashed Jakks for the same method, but any toy company would do the same.
I only buy CS, LOTR, & Legends. I plan only to buy new Legends that were not made in the CS or LOTR line. To date, I have bought one; Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. I see purchases of Legends 5 Savage and Legends Von Erichs 2-pack. Most of the Legends release have been of guys Jakks made in the CS line with some great accessories. I was kind of disappointed Mattel hadn't released more faces Jakks wasn't able to sign/produce.
But I think in the next two weeks, once the NYC 2011 Toy Fair hits, we'll see some good stuff from both Mattel and Jakks....
hopefully.

I collected the original LJNs and slowly got back in during the Attitude Era, buying mostly Rocks. When Hogan returned to the WWE in 2002, I really got into his new figures. Since the birth of my sons in 2006 and 2009, it's been great. They've really gotten into the figure scene. We buy mostly Legends and Elites, with an occassional Basic. The bottom line: your tastes will change and evolve as you get older. I went more than 10 years without even thinking about buying a figure. Buy what makes you happy!

I'm only going to collect the Legends line, and with it moving from 6 to 4 per set, it should be a lot easier on my wallet and time spent looking for figures. The price drop in 2 packs will help to (as I need the Nicolai figure, as I got the other two sets around Christmas). I got the DM Macho and Warrior, and will probably get the Dragon and HHH attire, but for the most part, I like the not having to buy so many figures.

I am very tired of just the repaints. So will most likely only buy attires that i personally like, the elite, and the legends figs. I dont have to have every single figure.

Mattel outhyped themselves in the first year. They is no way they can keep it the same way. Too much cost and too little profit.

call me crazy, but i'm happy that everything's starting to reach the point of re-paints and same-old superstar lineups. -- that just means i have to spend less time and money mantaining my modest collection.
that first year was BRUTAL!! mattel's quality thusfar has really impressed me, and honestly so has WWE's programming over the last year or so. haha, but seriously, i enjoy collecting and as many times as i've thought about thowing in the towel, i spend another day lost digging through or fixing up my fig collection.

I'm glad theres a bit of calm now, gives me time to get money and buy figs already out but I'm not sure if its me getting older or something about Mattel figures thats not got me as hooked as I was to RA or TTL.
The lack of new proto picks is a bit dissapointing but with some type of comic con in the next few weeks im not surprised.

I thought I was finished collecting at the end of the Jakks contract. I even made peace with myself that I was done. Then Mattel announced their Legends line and my interest was sparked again. The lack of news on lineups, signings, etc is a little discouraging, but it's also nice to be fully caught up on figures for a couple months or so.

I wouldn't say I am anywhere near throwing in the towel, but things have definitely slowed down, for the better imo. Now that we have gotten a large portion of the roster out of the way it is becoming easier to just grab one or two guys a series or less. However, I am still looking forward to guys like Del Rio, Daniel Bryan, Trent Barretta and hopefully the prospect of getting a Seth Rollins debut and figure in the not too distant future.
For me, I only buy guys I am a fan of or, like has been said, figures that are just really cool. I don't mind updated versions of guys. I think the Basic 10 Ziggler looks pretty awesome and will definitely grab that and I want Signature Series Cena as well. However, I will probably only own one Zack Ryder, Chris Masters, etc., but I am glad they keep pumping those figures out. Right now, I really only buy debut figures, really good updated attires, and Legends. I still love the figures but the honeymoon stage has certainly worn off.

With me the desire comes and goes with both wrestling itself and the figure collecting. But after a while I find myself coming back and I'm re-energized again and get that old familiar feeling that I got back in the day.
And just like the ones that posted before me, I don't buy every figure. I buy just the figures I like and don't worry about the rest. I just started collecting again so I have some catching up to do. But once I do and there isn't any current figures to chase I'm going to concentrate on customs.

I just started collecting a little while back so its not "old" to me yet. My biggest complaint is with the stores in my area. Target and Toys R Us have had the same stuff for 2 months now. I never, ever thought I would say this, but thank goodness for Walmart and Kmart. Thanks to them, I am getting quite a collection going.
With Toyfair coming, I expect to hear more news and see new prototypes.

It is pretty dissapointing walking into Wal-Mart, Toys R'Us, K-Mart and Target and seeing the same figures just sitting there and collecting dust. The good thing is I'll finally be able to save some cash with all the new sets coming out like Basic 9 and Basic 10, i just pre-order debut figs (like Natalya, Barrett and Ryder) and wait for the others to hit retail. Hopefully Mattel has some good things planned out at Toyfair

I do agree with others that Mattel needs to give us a little more info on upcoming products. They need to make announcements about new signings and line-ups to give collectors a reason to get excited about their product. Of course they're failing big time in that respect but hopefully we'll get lots of news at Toyfair in a couple of weeks.

i only buy figures that interest me. This. Plus I have tons of figs that I don't even use in my feds so I'm cutting way back on figure buying. Probably stick to mostly diva/knockout figs..
