Pryme Tyme Wrestling Year 2: An Overview
[/b][/center]
PTW World Heavyweight ChampionshipIf there was one word to describe Year 2 of Pryme Tyme Wrestling that word would be
"Golden." Zeke Walker became the most dominant PTW World Heavyweight Champion in the history of the company, owning a year long+ reign of terror. At Red Letter Day 2010, Walker won the championship in a fatal four way match that featured Josh Borne, Justin Tyme, and Cypher. At the following PTW Weekly Event, Steve Style attempted to cash in his Golden Chance Medal on an unsuspecting champion, but Walker was able to hold on to his belt. He also defeated Style in their rematch the following week. Kevin Hart won a number one contenders match and earned the right to face Walker at Big Time Legacies.
Big Time Legacies saw the "Golden" reign continue when Zeke Walker defeated Kevin Hart to retain his belt. Walker also would defend the title when Hart enacted his rematch clause, but not without controversy. Walker rolled Hart up after countering a Maple Leaf attempt and used the ropes for leverage. It was ruled that Kevin Hart would still be in line for another title shot, and that Walker would have to defend his championship in a triple threat match at Holiday Havoc. The man who earned the other spot in the match was a bit of a surprise. Former New York State Champion Hiro Nagashiki stunned the PTW fanbase when he defeated Mike Bockwinkel and The High Horror in a triple threat match to earn the spot at Holiday Havoc. The Japanese sensation would continue gathering momentum in the weeks leading up to Holiday Havoc, beating both Hart and Walker in singles matches cleanly.
However, when Holiday Havoc was over, "Golden" Zeke Walker was still the champion, after defeating Hiro with a Trance Out. Kevin Hart still hadn't felt he had earned a proper title shot, and challenged Walker to a one on one match against the champion. Walker reluctantly accepted, but before the match could start, Golden Chance holder Cody Rejero used his title match opportunity and prevented Hart from getting his shot. Walker defeated Rejero in a very competitive match and the Hart/Zeke encounter seemed to be evident. PTW owner Marc Henson personally made an appearance that made "Golden" Zeke Walker vs. Kevin Hart for the PTW World Heavyweight Championship the main event for Night 2 of Blaze of Glory. He made that match No Disqualification and stated that anyone who interfered would be fired. Kevin Hart began building momentum heading into Blaze of Glory.
In the match of the year thus far, "Golden" Zeke Walker defeated Kevin Hart to keep his championship reign in tact. Walker was so impressed with the feat even his huge ego wouldn't prevent him from shaking Hart's hand. With Hart out of the way, Walker defeated Blaze of Glory Tournament Champion and current Golden Chance holder Connor O'Reily in one of Zeke's hardest fought defenses to date. As a joke, Zeke put up his championship belt for two weeks as a joke against Doink the Clown and a returning Detective Dale. Of course, after defending the belt twice more, he stated that he was the greatest champion of all time. That brought out Josh Borne, who still had his rematch clause from the previous year in tact. Borne, who had been revitalized after going through an almost 4 month losing streak had come off a streak of clean victories, including in a handicap match against arch rivals Beauty and the Beast. Borne said that he was using his rematch clause for Red Letter Day 2011. The buzz on the match is that it could very well be the greatest match in PTW history.
Josh Borne's Roller CoasterEntering the second year of PTW, Josh Borne was perhaps the greatest champion in PTW history. His glorious reign that including an impressive 7 title defenses ended at Red Letter Day 2010 when he lost the belt in a fatal four way match to "Golden" Zeke Walker. Borne vowed he would use his rematch clause when he felt he was ready. This was when newly formed team Justin Tyme and Cypher began to patronize Borne for losing the belt. Week after week, the duo would lay Borne out in the center of the ring. Borne would never get wins in his matches due to distractions from the team of Tyme and Cypher. After Tyme cost Borne a match against Mike Bockwinkel, Borne challenged Tyme and his "butt buddy" Cypher to a match at Big Time Legacies. Tyme accepted for his team, but said it would be a handicap match.
At Big Time Legacies, Josh Borne would be defeated by Justin Tyme and Cypher after Cypher hit the Cyclone on a severely outnumbered Borne. Borne continued his losing ways, losing to Matty Manson, Mike Bockwinkel once again and also in a shocking upset against X Jack. Tyme continued to antagonize the down Borne, saying that he was no good and that his run as PTW Champion was a fluke. Borne then challenged Tyme to another one on one match, but Tyme said that he was too busy worrying about becoming a champion, something that Borne seemed to be incapable of doing. Borne seemed to be opponentless for Holiday Havoc, but that was when the undefeated M.L. Matthews came out and challenged Borne to a match. Borne being the fighting man that he is, accepted and it was set for Holiday Havoc.
M.L. Matthews defeated Josh Borne at Holiday Havoc following a distraction by new PTW Tag Team Champions, Beauty and the Beast. Borne would then continually challenge Justin Tyme to a one on one match, only to be denied by the tag team champion. Tyme would also claim that he was too busy being in the greatest team in PTW history. However, Borne claimed that Tyme wouldn't have to worry about being busy Night 1 of Blaze of Glory, so he talked with PTW management and cleared for a match to be set up between Borne and Tyme's tag team partner Cypher, where Tyme would be barred from ringside.
Josh Borne defeated Cypher in the main event of Blaze of Glory Night 1 to break his horrid losing streak and light a fire in himself. Borne would still focus on Justin Tyme, saying that Tyme was too afraid to face him. Finally, Borne was sick of Tyme's antics and interfered in Beauty and the Beast's match with The Golden Boys, costing them the tag team championship. An infuriated Tyme finally accept to a match with Borne at a PTW Weekly event. At the event, Borne defeated Tyme in one of the best matches of the year. Borne, feeling revitalized, finally initiated the rematch clause in his contract against "Golden" Zeke Walker. As has been said, Walker and Borne will face off in the most anticipated match in PTW history.
PTW Tag Team ChampionshipAt Red Letter Day 2010, the team of Chris Hammers and Justin Thomas, better known as
Suicide Solution continued their impressive PTW Tag Team Championship reign after defeating the teams of Cody Rejero and Jason Williams, Coast 2 Coast, and The Insane Assassins in a Fatal Four Way Match. Following another defense against Coast 2 Coast at a PTW Weekly Event, the team of Jason Williams and Cody Rejero, who soon became known as the Can Am Express, became number one contenders and faced Suicided Solution at Big Time Legacies.
At Big Time Legacies,
The Can Am Express defeated Suicide Solution to become PTW Tag Team Champions. In Rejero's first reign as tag champ and Williams' second, the team got off to a very quick start and defended their belts in three striaght weeks against Suicide Solution, the Insane Assassins, and the eXecution Brothers. When a formal number one contender was announced, the newly formed tandem of Justin Tyme and Cypher, Beauty and the Beast stepped up, looking to add some gold to their dominant run as a tag team.
Holiday Havoc saw the third team in three big events become tag champions as
Beauty and the Beast defeated the Can Am Express. The ruthless team of Cypher and Tyme continued dominating the tag team scene in PTW, picking up two title defenses against the Can Am Express and Coast 2 Coast before Blaze of Glory. On the Night 2 Show, Beauty and the Beast defended their belts against special guests Cheech Hernandez and KC "Cloudy" Day, Up in Smoke. Following Blaze of Glory, Beauty and the Beast began proclaiming themselves the best tag team in wrestling, and openly challenged any team to take that crown away from them. In two consecutive open challenges, the dominant team defeated the talented teams of Paul London and Brian Kendrick as well as The Young Bucks to add two more title defenses to their resumes.
For a third week in a row, Justin Tyme took a microphone in hand at a PTW Weekly Event. This time he didn't only state that Beauty and the Beast were the best team in professional wrestling today, but that they were the best team in PTW history. Another open challenge was set, and to the shock off everyone in attendance, the challenge was met by the first ever PTW Tag Team Champions, Alex Star and Jason Night, The Golden Boys.
The Golden Boys would go on to defeat Beauty and the Beast following distraction from Josh Borne that very same night to become the new tag team champions. However, at Red Letter Day 2011 Beauty and the Beast, as well as Coast to Coast and Suicide Solution will be looking to quickly dethrone The Golden Boys in their first title defense.
The High Horror vs. Mike Bockwinkel: Feud of the YearPerhaps the most heated rivalry in year two of PTW was the feud between fan favorite The High Horror and relative new comer Mike Bockwinkel. At Red Letter Day 2010, The High Horror defeated Tommy Dreamer in an a very hardcore match. The following week, Horror accepted a rematch request against the ECW legend. However, this match was never to be as Bockwinkel made his impactful debut, taking out Dreamer and then defeating Horror in a match. The following week, Bockwinkel would completely destroy Dreamer in a one sided match. An angry Horror demanded that Bockwinkel fight against him at Big Time Legacies, but Bockwinkel refused until PTW owner Marc Henson made it official.
At Big Time Legacies, Bockwinkel once again defeated Horror, but this time he had to use the ropes for leverage. Horror then proceeded to beat Bockwinkel down at the end of the match, which brought Bockwinkel's father, the legendary Nick Bockwinkel into the fray. The father Bockwinkel began interfering in all of Horror's matches, including a triple threat match against Bockwinkel and Hiro Nagashiki where the winner would get a PTW World Heavyweight Championship shot, until on one PTW Weekly event where Horror snapped and took the legend out with a shot to the head with a steel chair. Mike Bockwinkel immediately accepted a rematch for Holiday Havoc.
At Holiday Havoc, The High Horror was finally able to defeat Bockwinkel in a one on one match. However in the main event of the next PTW Weekly event, Bockwinkel and "Golden" Zeke Walker defeated Horror and Kevin Hart. Bockwinkel stated that Horror is a nobody and can not live up to the Bockwinkel name. He states that Horror doesn't even deserve to be in the ring with him. Week after week this would happen until Horror finally accepted a match against Bockwinkel for Blaze of Glory Night 2.
The outcome of the Bockwinkel/Horror match from BOG Night 2 was a draw. Neither man was able to answer a 10 count after savagely beating each other down. Both men, determined to prove that they were the better man, have signed to a match at the biggest event of the year, Red Letter Day 2011. However, after neither man was able to answer a 10 count at Blaze of Glory, Marc Henson ruled that this match should be a Last Man Standing Match.
The Downfall of The FamilyIn PTW, there has been no faction as dominant as The Family. Led by Matty Manson, The Family has held several championships and dominated PTW in several forms. Originally, the four members were Manson, X Jack, Jason Williams, and Zeke, with Tallarico Umasaki later joining the group. However, after several dismissals from the group, the current Family only contains Manson, X Jack, and his brother X Matt after Tallarico Umasaki's betrayal of Manson at Red Letter Day 2010.
The trio competed in several matches, and the eXecution Brothers were able to earn a tag team title opportunity following Big Time Legacies. However, after failing to defeat the Can Am Express, Matty Manson snapped on both X Jack and X Matt, kicking them out of The Family. Manson stated that The Family is no more and says that he is sick of trying to spread his message when his minions are utterly useless. Manson would go on to defeat X Jack and X Matt (who have both turned face) both in singles matches, setting up a handicap match for Holiday Havoc.
At Holiday Havoc, the eXecution Brothers defeated Matty Manson after X Jack hit The X. Manson would be enraged, but would move on to feud with Steve Style and Chris Jackal while the eXecution Brothers had a short feud with Suicide Solution. All three men entered the 2011 Blaze of Glory Tournament, where this feud would be revisited.
In the Blaze of Glory Tournament, X Matt was the only man out of the three men in this feud not to advance to the second round. In the second round, the X Jack/Manson feud would be rekindled as X Jack faced off against Manson and Connor O'Reily. The two would really go after each other, but neither would advance as the eventually winner O'Reily was able to blindside Manson to move on. This match would set up a war of words between the eXecution Brothers and Manson, and a match for Red Letter Day 2011 was announced after Manson cost X Matt a chance at winning the New York State Championship. It will be X Jack vs. X Matt vs. Matty Manson in a triple threat match with the winner earning a shot at the PTW World Heavyweight Championship on the first edition of PTW Voltage of Versus.
PTW New York State ChampionshipAt Red Letter Day 2010,
Hiro Nagashiki shocked the world when he defeated Matty Manson, Bret Thomas, and Tallarico Umasaki to become the new PTW New York State champion. Hiro quickly wrapped up his first defense against Matty Manson at the next PTW Weekly event when Manson used his rematch clause. Hiro then faced a very personal matter, defeating his bitter brother Dhana Nagashiki for his second defense of his title. The Japanese sensation's next defense didn't come until PTW's next big event, Big Time Legacies.
At Big Time Legacies, Hiro successfully defended his title in a triple threat match after defeating Tallarico Umasaki and Drew Parkland after pinning Umasaki. Parkland, enraged by this result challenged Hiro to a match at the next PTW Weekly event. At the event
Drew Parkland successfully defeated Hiro to become the new champion. After one successful defense against Hiro, Chris Jackal entered the NYS title picture to rehash the feud that Parkland and Jackal had. Parkland got another title defense in against Jason Williams before forcing to face Jackal, as well as others, at Holiday Havoc.
At Holiday Havoc, in a Fatal Four Way Match,
Connor O'Reily defeated Drew Parkland, Chris Jackal, and Bret Thomas to become the new NYS Champion. O'Reily didn't have the best reign, only defending the belt one time against Parkland. However, it wasn't all bad for O'Reily as he was about to move on to bigger and better things. Just three weeks after winning the belt, O'Reily lost the belt undefeated phenom
M.L. Matthews at a PTW Weekly Event.
Prior to the next big event, Blaze of Glory, Matthews defended his belt an impressive three times against Steve Style, Hiro Nagashiki, and in a triple threat match against Jason Williams and Cody Rejero. Matthews, as the NYS Champ was a defacto entry into the BOG Tournament. In the first round, Matthews successfully defended his belt against Jack Richardson and Kota Ibushi. Matthews would eventually lose in the finals, but his undefeated streak was still alive due to the fact that he didn't take the pin. Matthews is still the current PTW New York State Champion, and since Blaze of Glory Matthews has defended the belt a whooping 4 times (against Ibushi, Jackal, Style, and X Matt) raising his total defense count to 8. Matthews is scheduled for a Fatal Four Way Match at Red Letter Day 2011 for his championship. He will be taking on Hiro Nagashiki, Chris Jackal, and Jack Richardson.
