Honestly, I don't hear that many good rap songs. Like usually rap is 50 cent talking about his dick in a metaphor to children hobbies (Candy Shop, Amusement Park). And then we have the more hardcore rappers talking about money and shooting other people. Well I was searching through the TV when I actually found a GOOD rap song. This is what most rap needs to be like. Listen to the lyrics, they are great.
Honestly, as a rock fan, I can't stop listening to this song, it is THAT damn good to me. Most of his stuff isn't bad at all.

Check out anything on Def Jux. Alternative hip-hop with incredibly written lyrics.

I automatically assumed this was one of Lupe's new songs before I even clicked the link.
Lupe is really talented. Both of his albums, The Cool and Food & Liquor are very grand.
If you want an amazing song lyrically dload American Terrorist which is off of Food & Liquor.
Also you should investigate the following artists: Atmosphere, Murs, Common, Talib Kweli, Kanye West
If you enjoy Lupe, you will enjoy a lot of their work I believe also.

That being said I am white, and I like rap, but I just can't stand exactly what you just described. I hate Lupe Fiasco, I'm not really big on Kanye West (save 2 or 3 songs that are catchy), I'm probably the only person here who doesn't know a thing about Atmosphere (which could come back and bite me in the ass when someone turns my post around on me eventually), etc. etc. There's a lot of good rap out there that ISN'T of the Kanye West variety (I think someone here actually said this once... thegreatjunta maybe?) but it just seems like everyone's who's a casual fan or doesn't like rap and won't give it a chance buys a Kanye CD, and forgets anything else exists. Then again, this is the same site where Duece and Domino have more talent than Ice Cube in some members eyes.

Check out anything on Def Jux. Alternative hip-hop with incredibly written lyrics. When was the last solid Def Jux record? Mr. Lif's Mo' Mega had some really good songs, but a bit of a disappointment compared to I, Phantom. Everyone's first LP on that label were solid, but they kind of lost their momentum.

"They" being black people i assume Wow. What an incredibly narrow-minded, idiotic comment to make. "They" can mean anything. He's probably just talking about the music industry, and rap music in general. Next time, try to think before you type. It helps.

I'm probably the only person here who doesn't know a thing about Atmosphere (which could come back and bite me in the ass when someone turns my post around on me eventually), etc. etc. Well that's unfortunate . Atmosphere and a bunch of the other Rhymesayers Entertainment guys are some of my favorite artists - not just my favorite rappers.

The cool is excellent. Lupe Fiasco is gotta be one of the most talented rappers in the game in the current scene.

Lupe's decent, but highly overrated by white kids who hate hip hop. I like him, but people make it to seem he's the only good rapper in the game.
