I bought this movie without seeing it first. Generally speaking, that seems to always end up in my favor. Probably half my DVD collection is movies I've never seen before I purchased them. However, this is the only time I regret doing it.
Can anyone say 'Crash' with new ethnicities? Jesus, I couldn't even sit through it all, it's like watching the same movie using new races, and no Sandra Bullock.
Ever encountered something like this? Movies that are too similar, or buying something you've never seen and not liking it? ...Or both?

Crash doesn't come to mind when I think of Babel at all, to each his own I guess. I didn't mind it but it's not for everyone and I wouldn't put it in my collection as I think sitting though it once was more than enough.

Babel was boring.
It wasn't great or anything like that. Sure, the director is awesome but I thought the movie sucked.

Babel is boring, yeah, but I liked it. The director's amazing, you gotta admit. Brad Pitt almost made me a cry 'cause I'm a bitch.

I really was disappointed with Babel. I usually like any sort of movie and after hearing so many good things about it I just rented it one day and almost fell asleep. I found it boring and a waste of time. Might give it another shot tho.. I sometimes dislike a movie the first time around.

Yeah I didnt like Babel at all, but I loved Crash and I can see the comparisons, anyone who cant is lying.
One storyline intertwining many different families, one connection etc.

And I can't remember that in Babel, but I haven't seen it since it's release on DVD.

Babel is far superior to Crash. PERIOD.
Crash is way too pedantic and completely over the top with it's saturated pseudo emotional sequences with actors spilling out their most forcefully insincere performances. All the while the conventional camera work that is blander than spending an evening with Tiger Woods at a bingo parlor, with contrived angles and redundant Hollywood style editing is enough to make me to wretch.
Also, I'm getting really sick of twist endings unless they're completely appropriate.
Crash is the worst movie that EVER won an Academy award for Best Picture.
Babel is more of a tale of communication breakdown than playing of of racial stereotypes.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the real tale of Babel which I believe is a biblical story about a city of of people that united humanity and everyone within the city spoke a single language. They decided to build a tower to the heavens to be closer to God, BUT God thought that unity made the people of the world too strong, so he confused all of their languages and placed them all throughout the Earth.
I can't express just how amazing the director was able to film the all different cultures and give them all an authentic feel. That's pretty impressive and the cinematography was captivating as well.
I also thought the ensemble cast did a phenomenal job acting. Following the story perfectly as the consequences for the decisions made became more and more intense.
Babel certainly isn't the best picture I've ever seen, but it's leaps and bounds better than Crash THAT, I'm sure of.
