TWO men died when a mini-bus carrying members of Melbourne heavy metal band The Red Shore crashed on the north coast of New South Wales this morning.
It is believed the band's lead singer and merchandiser were killed in the accident.
Relatives of the dead men requested their names not be published. The two men killed were aged 22 and 27.
The musicians, from Geelong, were on tour with US band All Shall Perish. They performed in Brisbane last night and were due to play in Sydney tonight.
Their tour van drifted off the Pacific Highway and rolled several times before slamming into a tree at Moonee, north of Coffs Harbour about 7am (AEDT), police said.
One of the men was killed on impact and the other was trapped in the wreckage for more than an hour before dying in hospital.
Six other passengers escaped with head injuries, cuts and fractures and were taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital in a stable condition.
Confusion over passengers
Geelong booking agency Pan Studios this afternoon confirmed that two men linked to The Red Shore were killed in the accident.
Earlier reports had mistakenly claimed members of Brisbane band Butterfingers were involved in the crash.
A spokesperson for touring agency Destroy All Lines confirmed the mini-bus was part of the Christmas Carnage tour – featuring All Shall Perish and The Red Shore – but said the US band had not been involved.
Police said the accident, at Cunninghams Bridge, 1km north of Coffs Harbour, had shut the Pacific Highway to northbound traffic.
The crash occured at the end of an overtaking lane, with the van drifting off the road.
"It has left the road and rolled a couple of times before it has struck a tree," a police spokesman said.
Police said the eight occupants of the mini-van, which was towing a trailer, were travelling south before the accident.
The Red Shore performed with All Shall Perish at Club Phoenix in Brisbane last night and were scheduled to play at Hermann's Bar at the University of Sydney tonight.

Such a sad incident and it really hit home for me because I toured with All Shall Perish for 2 months last year and they are some of my best friends. Part of me is beyond thankful that they are alright but it's still sad to know that two young people have died in this accident.
