I havent ever really been into....ehh, i really don't even know what genre to call it besides 'pop punk." Besides some bands that have the term loosely associated with them, like Against Me!, Rancid/Tim Armstrong's material, Green Day (full blown, not loose), and not many other i can think of off the top of my head, have really struck a chord with me.
I love punk rock and hardcore, those genres have always tickeled my fancy the most, so latley, this year, i havent purchased too many albums due to their just not being alot of good albums im into. The only albums i've bought this year are Say Anything's Is a Real Boy, Tim Armstrong's A Poet's Life, Against me!'s New Wave, Tiger Army's new album, Neon Bible by Arcade Fire, and Year Zero.
Then, i went out today for xmas shopping and purchased Radiohead's new album and a new album i didnt even know existed....Say Anything's In Defense of the Genre.
I just have to say, after listening to IDOFTG, I must admit, Say Anything are one of my favorite bands in this "pop punk" if thats what you want to classify them as, in a long, long while.
I just can't figure it out, they have some of the most intelligent , and witty lyrics of the new wave of "these bands", and somehow they are in my mind, set apart from the pack.
Has anyone else found a band they didnt think they would like, and then ended up falling in love with them?

Say Anything is ing awesome. I heard the lead singer is legit disturbed. My bands producer met him once and the guy just started freaking out for no reason until someone gave him some pills.

Lol, well in one of the new songs on the album there is the line...
"Hey Max, i will sell you this Xanax for 5 dollars."
and it dont mean hes disturbed, it mean hes a junkie.

Yeah Machine Head. I listened to Aesthetics and really didn't like it. Now, after seeing them live, I can't get enough.

"In Defense of the Genre" is an incredible album, one of the best of the year, by far. Max Bemis, however crazy, is an amazingly talented artist. To be able to put out two full albums of excellent material in one sitting is an accomplishment in and of itself.

Has anyone else found a band they didnt think they would like, and then ended up falling in love with them? I've never liked 'shred' guitar playing, but I find Buckethead's playing very infectious. After seeing him live in March '06, he's been a favorite of mine.

If so, check out The Magnetic Fields' "69 Love Songs" if you like a ton of songs in one neat little package. That's about three hours worth of material. And didn't Tim Kinsella tear Bemis a new one in one of them punk magazines? Kinsella (whom I am sure nobody here knows of, but that's OK) wrote a really tongue-in-cheek article which Bemis took seriously, and elicited a lengthy tirade of a response. Tim's words at the end? "It was a joke, dude.." more or less.

So far I have dug what I've heard from Say Anything, but I have not picked up one of their albums yet. To answer the question, I never thought I would dig John Mayer, I listened to Room for Squares and did not find much to like about it. When Heavier Things came out I gave it a listen and fell in love. Now I will buy anything the man does. I even enjoy Room more now, but it pales in comparison to Heavier and Continuum. Oh BTW Sick Boi, I love the ink, its ing awesome.

Bipolar is just an excuse to be a dick IMO. I know many people that claim to be bipolar, some do,some dont. All i know is, Geodone, is a crazy pill, that if you are or arent bipolar, just makes you crazier.

Has anyone else found a band they didnt think they would like, and then ended up falling in love with them? Never thought I would actually listen to Between the Buried and me until I heard how incredible the guitar work was.
