I keep hearing this movie is in 3d....
is that only for IMAX theaters? or do regular theaters give you 3d glasses for this flick as well?

I'm not sure if they give you glasses, but theaters with digital projection are showing it in 3D, reguardless of whether or not it's IMAX.
With digital projection there is a method that tricks the eyes into thinking the image you're seeing is 3D.

Right now around 1000 screens are running Beowulf on 3D, which involves you getting a pair of Buddy Holly looking glasses, which are so much cooler than the old red and blue glasses from old 3D stuff.

Anyone that sees it without glasses, let me know, there's a digital projection method that involves a curved screen where you don't need glasses, I'm interested to see how different it is from traditional red/blue 3D. Also, I don't think they've used the red/blue ones for like 10 years now, mainly because it distorts most of the colors that the filmmaker intended, and so many directors got mad about it they finally figured it out with clear ones. But Jaque Fresco developed the curved screen where you don't need glasses, I've heard it's actually been implemented in a few theaters recently.

no, I just saw it in IMAX 3D (which was wicked, btw!) and it used the similar method to the old red/blue glasses by offsetting the colors to make the image 3D.

Because you hate CGI and you went to see an all-CGI film. Yes, everyone is aware of that. That, and you spelled 'recommend' as "reccoment". Go learn something.
