Never buy into the hype. Ever. And you can't be disappointed.

I read the spoilers for Catfish and was like, "That's it? You've got to be kidding me."

I saw "Catfish" about a week ago. It was a very good movie, although not at all what I was expecting. Man I just got back from Catfish and was PISSED. Ive spent all summer hyping this movie and DEMANDING IT on there website...and minutes before I was leaving for either The Social Network or Let Me In I noticed one theater got Catfish. Went to the midnight release and was very disappointed...the trailer made the TWIST out to be WAY MORE Than it was. I mean I know Hollywood likes to add the shock factor but damn... its NOTHING like the trailer makes it out to be. Its kinda obvious if you think about the most logical thing that could happen. Didnt feel any sort of tension or terror. I loved the first half leading up to the twist but then it really sucked. Which is weird since most reviewers are saying that the ending makes it. I can see how it would be cool for the actual film makers because if I was in there shoes it would be one hell of a ride...but for me as a viewer I felt that I was lead on a different path. All I can say is DONT buy into the hype like I did Will be seeing Let Me In and The Social Network on Saturday. Gotta start watching a horror film a day now that we are in October... not sure what I will be starting out with just yet. I felt the EXACT same way my friend. I just didn't want to say too much for fear of giving it away. But I too was pissed. The "twist" that they hyped turned out to be NOTHING like they portrayed it to be and like you said, when you think about it, it's really not that shocking at all. Like I said, I though it was a great movie, just severely mis-advertised.

I think it was misperceived. I expected no twist after seeing the trailer. I expected nothing. Just because of the quote they use from some jackass, that doesn't mean anything. It's call being an uneducated consumer. Do you buy every peanut butter that says "THE BEST PEANUT BUTTER!" on it? Probably not. It would probably be the cheap, off-brand version. If you can't spot a cheap, off-brand movie, how is that the fault of the company that made it? Their goal was to get you to see it. It worked. Just because you don't like that fact, it's no reason to blame the makers. I still have no clue what the movie is about. And I want to see it. And when I see it, I'll say "oh, that's what its about". Jer said No, Jer. You did that. There's only a twist if you believe the pullquote and read into the trailer. The trailer gives you no info. So you'll make your own assumptions. And then you don't like it when it doesn't meet your assumptions. Doesn't make sense, in my opinion. I believe this is what's wrong with the moviegoing public. People put too much emphasis on cast, publicity, who's watching, who's talking, and when it comes to the actual movies they're 90% of the time lackluster in comparison with the talk (except for obvious examples of quality film, like Inception). I watched Machete yesterday. The trailer is exactly what it needs to be. Succinct, violent, hilarious. The movie was bogged down in plot, full of cheap action for the sake of the fact that that's how it used to be done (even though it doesn't have to), and just came off as lackluster. Which is hilarious because people will sit there and trash Iron Man 2 and praise Machete, when both are truly on the bright side of mediocre. But each was set up with different expectations, different marketing that people totally bought into. People bought into "yeah, Machete is what the cool people are watching" even though it's only really accurate as an exploitation movie, not entertaining as one. Which is unfortunate, because it could have been a 10/10 masterpiece in every sense, it simply wasn't. Style was 10/10, movie and plot were more around 6-7/10. But it all comes down to what people were expecting and what they got. People were expecting a cheap action movie, they got it with Machete. People were expecting the first Iron Man to be repeated, when it wasn't they were confused and angry. If they made one that rehashes the first, people would complain it's too similar. With the first, they created an unexpected hit. So no matter what, because people now expect it, it will never be the same type of hit, thus the mass "disappointment" which is really just the wrong word for "believes everything a commercial tells them". And people wonder why it's tough to release films theatrically in the US. Which is why I fear for Hatchet II. People have been told to go see it, simply to see it, so that Unrated horror will have a wider foothold on the theatrical experience. However, I know a bunch of jackasses are going to go see it expecting the slasher film to end all slasher films, which it simply isn't. Yes, the trailer says that, but if it didn't say that, these same idiots wouldn't go see it. "Well, who knows if it's any good". Go see Hatchet II. For the experience. Not telling you you're going to like it. You might hate it. That's fine. But it's about the experience of going and decided for yourself. And if Unrated films can be released theatrically more often, then you get to decide from an even larger pool of films in the future. So if you go see Hatchet II, and you don't like it, but you like horror, go see it again, because that's the only way you're going to have more options in the future. marketing, hype, Twitter, CNN. Learn to make up your own mind, on your own. Hatchet II doesn't appeal to you at all? Magnificent, don't participate, this is not for you. I don't get how that's not simple. [/rant] Not directed at anyone in particular, but I've seen so much complaining the past week or so online and at work about people not liking something as much as they wanted to. I ultimately didn't like Machete as much as I thought I would. But that's the end result. People act like there is something more than can be done as they're complaining how they didn't like Iron Man 2. So? Watch a different movie, that's why there are 90,000 of them.

Saw 'Let Me In' earlier..I must say that it's on the very short list of great horror remakes. The original and the remake are very very similar but that is not a bad thing since I was a huge fan of the original swedish film. Kody Smitt McPhee and Chloe Mortez were both great
I know it's not horror but tomorrow I'm going to see The Social Network! I am pumped

Social Network at 4:45 and Let Me In at 7:20. Pretty pumped. And Sean, I usually dont buy into the hype. Theres very rare movies that I do. Last ones were (Cloverfield,Dark Knight, Inception and now Catfish) The first 3 listed I loved. The only reason I was let down with Catfish is because if you FOLLOW there site and viral marketing it does come off as a lie. All there viral sites are covered with a dark theme and BLOODSHED all over...and after reading SEVERAL Q and A's with the directors saying THEMSELVES that the last 40 minutes will change you as a viewer of movies. Thats a little drastic I would say. The ending was crap. If they market there movie fully on the ending...and EVERY single reviewer says how awesome the ending is...then I expect the ending to be something interesting. But anyways... my first "horror" film to kick off my October ended up being Freddy Vs Jason. Wasnt planning on starting with it but for some reason two of my friends never got around to seeing it. I enjoyed the movie for the gore and for seeing Freddy AND Jason before the remakes started flying.

Freddy vs Jason is one of those great disappointments, because during production I just remember thinking things would go so wrong, then I saw the trailer, and it looked like he understood what the concept was. The problem is, he did, but only halfway. There are some fundamental elements missing, and far too much time spent on the characters. But it has its fun moments, some cool hack n' slash stuff too, but for a movie 15 years in the making, I was really disappointed at the time. And this is coming from a guy that loves Jason X immensely.

See it wasnt until after it came out on DVD that I was even aware that this had a backstory and was supposed to come out AGES ago. I think I read in the Guinness Book Of Records that it was one of the longest waited sequels ever to come out.

My horror movie of yesterday was the remake titled Let Me In! Not a bad film at all. Ive only seen the original once when it was in theatres so I only recall bits and pieces. The remake wasnt bad at all but it was one of those movies that I thought was decent but a little pointless. I liked the acting by both kids and I thought Richard Jenkins was AWESOME! Something fun to check out in theatres but I doubt I will see it again unless its on sale for 15 bucks.

Yeah, I still believe it spent the longest amount of time in Development at a major studio. They literally had people working on it for like 18 years before it hit screens. Only other movie I can think of that was in development for nearly as long was Superman Returns.

Let Me In isn't out over here until November. I can wait, and I'm sure it wont be anywhere near as good as Let The Right One In.

I honestly think it will be the final movie.
Does anyone know the UK release date for Paranormal Activity 2?

I'm betting on a Saw 8, just not next year, it will either be 2012 or 2013. When the studio goes a year without one and sees its profits drop, it will be back

I honestly think it will be the final movie. Does anyone know the UK release date for Paranormal Activity 2? October 22nd, like I've told you before. Got me some preview tickets to see Let Me In on the 18th. Hope it's good.

Neither Case 39 nor Let Me In did all that well at the box office this weekend. I guess most people aren't in the Halloween mood yet.

I can see why Case 39 did crap. Becuase it's shit, being the prime reason.
