im thinking about getting the 40GB PS3. its the black friday deal at best buy. the 40GB PS3 with the open season dvd, NBA08 game, and spiderman 3 dvd. do you think its worth it? or should i get just the 80GB for a $100 more. i mean how is the 40GB PS3? any complaints about it? or is it just as good as the 60GB and 80GB? do i really need 60-80GB of memory?

They both run the same. But the main thing is that you can NOT play PS2 games on the 40 GB version. So if you plan on playing PS2 games on your PS3, get the 80 GB. If not, get the 40 GB. Otherwise everything else is the same besides the extra memory that is not necessary at all.

Yeah I'd go with the 80GB, get them before they get Discontinued because Sony looks like they're just going to produce 40GB PS3's from now on.

My complaint to the 40 GB is that it isn't backwards compatible.
You should wait until spring of next year, they'll release a white PS3.

80GB doesn't do PS2 backwards compatibility like the 20/60GB did. it relies on the processor to emulate the PS2 CPU/GPU (20/60 actually had them as part of the hardware, thus full compatibility)
so basically, PS2 games will work but not 100%

Yeah, but your getting a PS3 to UPGRADE, not to DOWNGRADE to play Old PS2 games, even if you would want to you wouldn't ditch the PS2 in the first place, and If you did you can get them new for like $150

if you get a ps3 why not just keep your ps2?
As said above you buy it to upgrade, not downgrade.

Yeah, of Course but I think once you get over the Backwards compatibility you start to focus on the games that the System offer, Like the SNES for Example, it was Planned for Backwards Compatibility but was scrapped due to costs but still, people enjoyed the System and it went on to become the best selling System in the 16-Bit Era.

Do you really need 80 GB of space. I would get the $40 GB , and even 40 GB of space is a lot as well.

Will any of them play PS1 games? I think they all do, even the 40 GB. --- This already has 15 replies, so there's not much I can add. The 40 GB plays NO PS2 GAMES WHATSOEVER. If that is important to you, or you just don't feel like having both the PS2 and PS3 hooked up, get the 80GB. You'll be able to play most of them. Obviously this topic was for Black Friday, but it still applies. Do some damn research on your purchases. Don't come here the day of the sale (when ads are readily available at least a week in advance) and ask people for opinions on information you can find all over the internet.

See, that's the part where people aren't the best resource since we don't know every game that doesn't play. Hell the most we know why-wise is the 80 GB uses emulation software (much like the 360) and it's not 100% reliable.

I'd go with the 80GB, mainly because of the PS2 playback (my current PS2 is bust for the most part).
